Why are they so bad? Yet is300 is gold?

A number of reasons about that platform:

-The chief engineer of the first gen IS was Nobuaki Katayama who worked on the original 86
-The JCE10/15 / GXE10 / SXE10 platform had double wishbone suspension front and back (no longer the case after the first gen)
-IS300 has a variant of the 2JZ engine (but no, it's not the Supra NA engine which was the non-VVTi version)

This car does have its flaws but it comes from a period when Toyota overengineered their cars and you are able to drive it to its limit day in and day out without putting a big dent on your wallet as long as you are willing to maintain it. And driving it feels nostalgic.

Exactly this. Besides the... linear nature of the inline-6 (re: boring powerband) the suspension is the biggest problem on our IS300 we got here... even just the simple addition of 1" lowering springs all around completely changes the car.

Someone who shouldn't have at Lexus won an argument when that car was built for NA about how soft the suspension needed to be and it's unfortunate. When it came out, every review complained about how it fell short of the E46 because of slightly soft/aloof handling characteristics.

Around when my Celica hit 25 years old is when some of the model-specific OEM parts started to become NLA (ie bumpers, hoods, tail lights, etc). Things like bolts and relays and stuff that's shared with other, newer models is still around no problem.

I use the site quote often, and have endless questionable experiences on there from cars, free shit, to basic items.

One of my cars that I put up for sale, some guy kept flagging my ad, posting counter ads, and sending me emails that I need to stop scamming people with my broken car. Supposably it had 0 brake life, failed power steering, and other issues that all did not apply to my car.
I think he thought, I was the previous owner of the car, and probably had some beef with him, or maybe that particular car was flipped for a profit from the previous owner or something

Another time I posted a car for cheap due to space issues, some lady wanted the car bad, but I clearly listed first come first serve in the ad.
She ended up flagging all my ads, posting counter ads, saying it has problems etc, and sending proud emails to me that I will never sell the car because she will just keep flagging them. And this lady was actually nuts, she literally monitored CL every 10 minutes for HOURS, just to prove her point.
I replied thank you for letting me repost the ad, because each time I repost it, it comes up as the first link on the search.
That was a classic

If your item is cheap, just donate it or throw it into the Fraser River (I kid), but selling cheap items brings out the sub 80IQ ppl with un-supervised internet access. Anything over $200, everything is super easy to deal with.

Pro tip, never go out of your way more than 5mins to meet for an exchange.

I've had three assholes pull the "OH GEE, I have no idea where the 5/10/20 dollars went; it was in my pocket!" I just stand there and let them put on a show, and if they stick to the story I say "Oh that's too bad", and get in my car. The cash always showed up in the pocket they were just looking in. It's actually not a horrible offer to be honest, could probably negotiate something, but who offers 75% on a car they've never seen? I've been in the game long enough to know they get you to agree to $6k and then they actaully come to look at it and they start picking things apart on the car and go lower because $6k is the new ceiling price to them... so I just keep writing back "I only take offers in person from people who have seen the car" and don't hear back.

I bought a 2005 Corolla XRS brand new from Downtown Toyota. Had the same 2ZZ-GE except detuned on horsepower but I think had some better low end torque.

That 2ZZ-GE sounded great, but coming from a smaller 6 cyl engine the lack of torque on the 1.8 was a real "wtf did I get into" moment lol. I eventually got used to slipping the clutch perfectly and could accelerate pretty decently. Except off the line I'd get whipped by a Dodge Caravan.

Yah it's not a good engine off the line... but it's fun when you're already moving on the highway! The cam changeover is soooo short though, from where it starts to redline is blink and you miss it. Sounds great though.
