OR MAYBE YOUR USING THE WRONG TYPE OF TRANNY FLUID

girlcrazy_420 07-25-2007 12:12 PM

80w gear oil if I can remember ;) ^ Was just a bummed trans when I put it on. Automatically 4th stoped working a day after it was installed. Finally locked up I guess. Ah well, convertible trans will be going in, in a few hours.

007WRX 07-26-2007 06:07 AM

Damnit Kyle, you were right.

ColinK 07-26-2007 07:29 AM

wtf?

SaviorSelf_666 07-26-2007 07:50 AM

wtf?^2

Slo40 07-26-2007 09:06 AM

umm stop putting gear oil in your tranny.... Gear oil is not meant for transmissions and is waaaay to thick.

Go to your friendly neighbourhood parts supplier and buy some AC Delco Synchromesh and put that in.

down_hill_dog 07-26-2007 11:43 AM

Put proper fluid in your trans and you won't burn em up so fast. fluid is not fluid when it comes to trannies and diffs.. i've blown up my fair share too ;)

Slo40 07-26-2007 11:48 AM

The other issue besides viscosity in manual tranny fluid is that most oils are too slippery and the syncros can't develop enough friction to properly enguage in time causing alot more stress and wear on shift forks and stuff.

girlcrazy_420 07-26-2007 04:23 PM

Manual called for 80weight. I've checked, double and tripple checked. I usually run 10w30 or my honda tranny's, but the sprint says otherwise. Anyways, I'm going to be throwing in syncromesh in about a hour to give it a try.

edit: GM Syncromesh is $28 a bottle at lordco? I got the Penzoil Syncromesh, $11 a bottle. ALOT thinner than I was expecting, poured simular to a 5w30 without the "gear oil" smell. I'll see how this trans holds up without as much abuse. I REALLY want to go out racing tho. Completeted the urethane engine mount swap, trans that dosnt grind AND has the gear ratio that I was looking for. Just a VERY weak differential.

RRxtar 07-26-2007 04:41 PM

you know the 3rd gear grind most B series honda trannies have? its because they have motor oil in the tranny.

motor oil stays in the motor
tranny fluid goes in the tranny

Slo40 07-26-2007 07:15 PM

wow you need to find another counter man at lordco... I paid $9 a bottle.

007WRX 07-26-2007 10:05 PM

Ohhh mannn!

SaviorSelf_666 07-26-2007 10:11 PM

Oh snap

Therin 07-26-2007 11:04 PM

i went to mr lube today to get my oil changed and man... what a fuck that was helping me. He bashes 240sx's right after i tell him my car is a 240... he's like "this is wayy better than a 240sx" im thinking "didnt i just tell you this was a 240...moron."

he asks if i wanna do a diff oil change and a tranny oil change and i said no because i'm gonna put in royal purple. he then proceeds to bash royal purple. wtf.

the tone in his voice was annoying, he was annoying. if the other guys didnt make up for his general gayness, then i would never go back there again.

thumbs up for service, thumbs down for this guy.

girlcrazy_420 07-27-2007 03:51 PM

I reemed out the owner of my workplace today after putting me in a situation I wasnt really comfortable in. Had to clean a newer volvo covered in blood and he said I had no choice and it had to be done. Im talking about a car with slashed seats, windshield, driver window and rear-view where all punched out, skin and blood still dangling. Blood DRENCHING both front door panels, seats, steering wheel and columb, center consol and stereo... fucking splatter everywhere. I had 5 rags COVERED in blood and I had to show him before he finally pulled me off. Like really, its completely unfair for me. He charges a grand to get the car cleaned, yet I make next to NOTHING to do the gringe of the work. I wouldnt normally have not complained... but awnestly this thing shouldnt have even been touched. Between this and getting covered in bear-spray the week before; this is bullshit. I need a new job.

down_hill_dog 07-27-2007 07:41 PM

You do need a better job. And when cars like that come in, if theyre not being brought in by the Police or ICBC a few alarms should go off. You guys should be asking yourselves why are we cleaning a car with blood, skin and smashed out windows all over it and why is it not being dealt with by the RCMP or ICBC?

And on the topic of your transmission fluid Adam, you should not be paying $29 a bottle from Lordco. Take back the Pennzoil, as from what I've read most swift owners were unhappy with it. Go to Wyatt and get some good ol' GM Synchromesh. It will be perfect for you, and you'll need 2.4 litres of it from what i've read. If you are going to do it yourself, make sure you follow a good service manual and put the proper amount of fluid in.

Transmissions going kaboom seems to be a general problem around swift/sprint/metro owners. Most of them seem to cure theyre problems by going with Synchromesh. I've only had good reviews in my own vehicles. After blowing up 2 trannies in Hondas due to the wrong fluid, I learned real quick. Looks like someone before me put the wrong fluid in the Isuzu and thats why it let go too. Then you probably put in the wrong fluid, and thats why it let go for you too.

girlcrazy_420 07-27-2007 08:35 PM

:werd: ^^ I got Penzoil Syncromesh, lordco sales rep said its the exact same as teh GM stuff, just badged differently. Uhh, Guy named Ken I believe. This tranny I just swapped in dosnt feel very good at all. 2nd syncro is fubard badly. Time to drop a good ole' 4-sale sign in the window and go back to a 5.0 I try to do all my own work, and purchasing a newer "reliable" vehicle dosnt seem very well suited for when it needs repairs; thats why i stick with older stuff. I'm happy with the 5.0's... VERY easy to work on, make decent power and are very decent on fuel when they're tuned. I'm tired of this sprint shit, even the guys on the board admit that they are economy Piece of shits. Regarding fluid, 80w is factory reccomended, but turns out it was recalled and to switch to syncromesh. I only read 80w last time I swapped the trans in. Mabye I'll try a honda one day, only thing that scares me away is the price for what i'd want.

edit: Next I need to learn how to tear down and built a standard trans :D
