so it keeps snowing out here in prince albert. its always nice working out of town and you are hit with shit wheather. some of the hills in this city going downtown are steep as hell, and i aint got my winters on anymore. alot of dirty brothers in this city, lemme tell ya. |
I went out and bought what I thought was a pretty good dvd player (toshiba hda3) to read reviews on the net and realize they are now fazing out dvd's and going with blue ray? I think I may end up taking it back and upgrading... again. Stupid technology. The same with my TV, I picked up a 36" HD toshiba crt, and now I realize it dosnt have a HDMI input, but only the blue/green/red things; which my receiver does not have which makes video switching such a fucking hassle. and 6 remotes? My god... The $200 universal cant keep up with all the features of each remote. Technology sucks. This being said, my high current receiver kicked ass when i got it. To be able to use the features of everything else I've gotta upgrade and amps arent cheap. Sure sucks being 5years behind edit: Randomness^ |

i picked up a toshiba HD-D3 HD-DVD player back on boxingday for $99 marked down from like $400 before HD-DVD went under. yes HD-DVD is now all but done and blu-ray is the format of choice. but the HD-DVD player is a wicked upconverting DVD player especially for the price. so now i can watch regular DVDs in near HD quality and ill pick up a bluray sometime after christmas when the price drops. |
i was reading a thing back in the day... and yes.. it was a wednesday.. they figured the porn industry would be the one to tell us if it was hd dvd.. or blueray.. guess it has spoken |

get a ps3 man. best blu ray player on the market. i got one, i love it and it works great. always gets the latest firmware as the industry develops (with internet access of course) different formats/versions of blu ray. once you watch a movie in blu ray, you cant watch a dvd again. i will not watch a movie in dvd anymore, the quality seems almost seems like VHS. mind you, i got a fairly decent setup at home. i moded myself an electric tooth brush, damn thing died on me half way through. guess it needs a full charge. i'll have to see what all the fuss is about with these auto brushes. i am bored and outa town, got the day off tomorrow so i guess i'll just brush my teeth every house while watching whatever lame show is on sundays... |

if you want a cheap ass blu ray player, and you don't mind having a pc sitting beside your tv, they have blu-ray drives now, that have a read speed that's minimum 2x faster than the ps3's drive, and they're like $170 to boot.... not only that but they're read AND write drives, so if you can find some bare blu-ray media, you can prettymuch have unlimited storage because the blu-ray discs are soooooo huge. |
i forgot about the pc option, but to mean it isnt as practical for your everday person. mind you, i dont think the average everyday user even has blu ray, and if they do they are probably more than capable of hooking a system up like that. but its the quality just as good when you have to transmit the video via the blue moniter connection (not sure what its called). as a stand alone player, i think the ps3 is a great option though. and i've read reviews that because its also a game console, the power behind the unit is also beneficial for the blu ray as well. i personally wouldnt hookup my pc to my tv, maybe now a days there is no quality loss like there use to. but i dunno. ----- so that electric tooth brush is pretty awesome. feels like i got a way better brush in, it actually has the after dentist squeaky clean feel. gonna take some time to get use to it. |
yeah i think you need a decent vid card to be able to handle the blu-ray media anyway... mind you i'm a bit of a pc nerd/buff/whatever so i usually like to get the best stuff i can. for media transfer they have DVI to HDMI connectors which allows you to connect the digital output of the video card to the tv's hdmi input, or if the tv has dvi input you can just use a regular old dvi connector. these cables are capable of a higher res than any tv out there has.. so there's no need to worry about signal loss. i'd know about quality loss, i had my tv hooked to the pc thru an s-video cable (max res 1024x786) and it looked like complete garbage. |
GTA4 comes out in 2 days! |

yeah thats because s video is like 20 year old technology. it does not support/handle hd signal. 720 or 1080 |
yes s-video is a garbage way to hook up a pc to a tv, the only reason i was doing it is because i got the cable for like $20 for a 20 foot cable.. however once i get the new tower i'll be doing some hardcore pc gaming on the 42"er at full resolution... going to be bad ass methinks |
well, it looks like Penticton is a no-go :( Guy came back with a better offer, but he's still 11K/yr off what I'm making right now *sigh*... |
GTA4 yay. gotta 12 hour shift in less than an hour and i have an hour of sleep. |
