I saw a bunch of baby ducks and a mom duck walk across the parking lot of Save-on Foods the other day. The whole lot came to a halt.

I finally pieced together enough parts to have a wireless portable flash, now comes all the fun of learning what the heck to do with it :)

Mananetwork 05-17-2007 09:15 PM

Both awesome pictures!

-Good posing and exposure for the first one
-Loving the sky and colours in the background. Her face is a bit red. I'd desat it and bring it out a little more

Well, best way to do that is lots of practice, trial and error. Do feel free to post more pics of this lady :)

dspirit79 05-17-2007 09:46 PM

Kyle,

2nd photo the flash is pointing too far down her torso. The light fall off is causing the brightness of her shirt to overcome the exposure of her face.
As well, when placing your subject on a third, MOST of the time you want the deadspace to follow their faced direction. In this case, I would say that this would hold true as well. Your composition would be stronger if you placed her on the left third instead of the right third.

Good work! Keep practicing.

When you mention "faced direction," do you mean the body's faced direction or where the face is looking at? I'm wondering b/c in Kyle's picture she is somewhat looking towards the left, but her body is facing to the right.

dspirit79 05-18-2007 10:17 PM

Typically body direction.
