How much is the actual price of this watch ? I don’t even know.

SkinnyPupp 02-16-2023 11:51 PM

Moonswatches are $2100 HKD retail, so about $270 USD (or $365 CAD)

$460 CAD.. Assuming tax is still like 15% in Canada, that's not even really much markup. Of course you could just go to a store and get one if the timing is right. And eventually they'll start selling them online.

I kind of like the Mars one, and wouldn't mind having a cheap chrono.. but it's not really cheap is it? Swatch chronos are about 50% of that price, or 60% for stainless

Badhobz 02-17-2023 06:38 AM

i like the neptune and uranus one, but for the price they want, it doesnt really seem like its worth it.

SkinnyPupp 02-19-2023 08:25 PM

Took a picture of my recently retired daily driver of 14 years - now relegated to beater status, for going on hikes, etc

You can see it's all faded, I think because I had to charge it in the sun so much (the solar charging is shit). There is a big scratch from when I was playing with a puppy, pretty early on FeelsBadMan

Still love everything else about it, and it felt good to wear again after not touching it for several weeks. The 22mm double pin buckle strap felt so good. Comfortable and cool while I was running the trail.

I still love the Laco but I am kind of looking forward to getting rid of the leather strap... I like the style (except the taper to 18mm), but I am really not a fan of leather itself as a material. I know it's "classic" but it really is a shitty material for most things. Wallets and handbags are OK. Stuff that touches your skin, not so much, so keep it away from my watch and definitely don't make me sit on a leather seat while wearing shorts.

you dont like leather feel on skin? wowowo thats interesting.

I actually dont like the feel of that rubber material on my skin. plus it stinks after a while.

Did you get those NATO bands in yet?

rb 02-20-2023 11:11 AM

It's a nice g-shock. Bezel covers are cheap if you want to freshen it up. Around $40 CAD shipped for a price reference

https://www.ebay.ca/sch/i.html?_from...cover&_sacat=0

Its been hit/miss polishing g-shock glass for me. It either reduced the size of the scratch or did nothing at all. You could even try one of those cell phone glass scratch removal kits

SkinnyPupp 02-20-2023 12:34 PM

If it was a basic model, I might consider a new cover. But this is a special limited edition, so I am keeping it original, including the "patina" (lol). Notice how the logos on this cover are not painted - they are all blacked out which you probably won't find on any replica cover, or even OEM might be hard to find the right one. I also thought about polishing the crystal, but it's a really deep cut. You can actually feel it (I am lucky the tooth didn't go through the entire thing). That that will just have to be more 'patina' (lol). It's an outdoors watch now, so I am good with all the damage.

But yeah, not a fan of leather.. The rubber used by G-Shocks (at least this one) is totally comfortable, and stays clean and fresh during hot humid days, and doesn't get stinky for me at least. Leather gets all swampy in the heat, and hard and uncomfortable in the cold. It's awful!

Still waiting on the bands. Oh and the springbar tool too.. I have to wait for that before I can do anything with any of them. Unless there's a safe way to do it using something around the house?

rb 02-20-2023 12:49 PM

There's an all black cover in that ebay link but yeah I get the personal patina.

Totally get why you dont dig leather. Not really a fan of leather except if its leather nato for some reason. I find that it wraps the wrist just enough.

SkinnyPupp 02-20-2023 12:51 PM

There's only one top cover in that link and it looks like this

https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/c9YAA...R2Y/s-l500.jpg

IMO that would ruin the "Man in Mat Black" edition look.. I appreciate you looking out though!

rb 02-20-2023 12:59 PM

Its all good. I've got OCD so everything of mine has to look mint or as close to it lol

It might be location based thing of why it might show up for you

$1.22 strap arrived! It's a "NATO-like" 2 piece nylon that I got in case I found actual NATOs too bulky (those are coming). For $1 who cares right? I already like it better than leather, although obviously it won't last long. I love the non tapered look, even though that's "wrong"

Though i don't really like leather or bulky straps either, if I ever got a flieger, I wouldn't mind giving it go on a bund strap even though I dont have the wrist size for it

68style 02-21-2023 07:21 AM

I'm okay with the rubber G-Shock straps, but some of the shiny plastic ones like on the a few of the shiny clear watches get soaked / slimy when it's hot out. Super gross.

Leather is okay for me too... I actually don't like nylon or fabric straps as much, I find them abrasive on my delicate skin.

SkinnyPupp 02-21-2023 03:25 PM

This $1.22 strap has been good so far.. No abrasions, has a nice fit. I can tell the thing would fall apart in a few months or whatever if it was used daily. At least the keepers would lose their black coat. This will probably end up as a backup, but it's been cool as a 'proof of concept' for style.

I am now really looking forward to checking out more straps, and once I decide on a style I like, I can grab some more colours (and better quality). Thinking a bright white one might look really cool, or red.

@68style are you still watch shopping? ;)

SkinnyPupp 02-23-2023 05:12 AM

I got the $5.61 Nato strap today and holy shit this thing is GREAT. I LOVE the extra bulk it gives. Perfect! I'll edit this post with some pics tomorrow.

Edit:

I have a branded one (crown & buckle) coming from the US, so I will be able to compare cheapies vs higher quality ones, to see if it's worth it. If it's not much better, I can buy a ton of cheap ones. If the quality is worth it, I'll buy a couple of those in different colours.

Badhobz 02-23-2023 09:20 AM

Nato straps… Once you start, you can’t stop buying.

SkinnyPupp 02-23-2023 06:01 PM

OK done spamming this thread for now.. Hope to see some more spam from you guys!

Let's see some of those straps hobz! Would like to see more of on wrist shots from RB, especially that Lemania and 50's Oyster Date
