I did a test a few months ago of my Patek just to see and it’s horrible. +20 seconds a day.
Same test with my manual winding speedmaster and it was only +4 seconds a day.

Wtf. What the hell are you paying for here.

SkinnyPupp 02-06-2023 07:16 PM

I wonder if having a bunch of complications makes it less accurate :considered:

Badhobz 02-06-2023 10:03 PM

My 5711 only has a date complication. I don’t think any Patek is master chronometer certified like omega or Rolex. They are just uhhh “pretty”. Very much like an Italian car. Aesthetics for the sake of aesthetics.

SkinnyPupp 02-06-2023 10:28 PM

Well if they're not promising a chronometer, I guess that's that. 20 seconds a day is 99.97% accurate

rb 02-07-2023 11:43 AM

I generally don't worry too much about +/- seconds. Most of my vintage watches are between 50-85yrs old so as long as they run, i'm happy lol.

Have considered picking up a timegrapher though but I wouldn't use it enough these days. There is a USB version that i'm interested in trying that is around $50... compared to $200+ for a standalone unit

SkinnyPupp 02-07-2023 02:48 PM

I just think it's really cool to take these mechanical devices, and plot out their movements on a graph like that using a phone. I guess I am too much of a nerd in that way too.. dangerous lol

If anyone here has 5 minutes to do a test and indulge me, it would make me happy SeemsGood

Brilliantly designed hour hand

Alright, so finally gonna cave and purchase a watch because I need one for my work (I work as a personal trainer)

Watch needs: a timer and tells the time

Nice-to-have: step counter, heart rate, etc

Any recommendations that are relatively cheap? I lose my watches easily, so preferably something ~$100 or less

Badhobz 02-07-2023 06:45 PM

if you have an iphone, the best smart watch is still the apple watch. it does everything you need above, it makes your life easy with all the integrated functionality to your phone, and you can customize the shit out of it (watch faces, different straps, etc). Im running apple watch 6 and i still havent found a need to upgrade in 2+ years that ive owned it.

If you lose it, you can easily find it with the find my iphone thingy. If youre not sold, just get it from costco and try it out for 90 days. if you still arent convinced, return it.

bcrdukes 02-07-2023 07:01 PM

I think a Rolex Daytona will do the job.

bcrdukes 02-07-2023 07:01 PM

Oh my bad. Under $100. I read it as $100K.

SkinnyPupp 02-07-2023 08:12 PM

Guys I am thinking of bidding on this Royal Oak "Automatic" at the Sydney airport lost & found... Do you think it's a good deal? Bid is at $10K AUD already ($7K USD). Looks like the battery was recently changed.

This might sound negative but you may want to avoid these because the quartz versions are a real pain in the ass to repair and often go south resulting in $$$$ upkeep costs. Having said that, you may end up with a nice AP RO in your collection. You only live once!

Sorry, I should have included pics in my original post... Somehow I don't think this is a legit AP movement in there:

bcrdukes 02-08-2023 04:34 AM

Yeah, that's a Seiko quartz movement.

rb 02-08-2023 06:14 AM

Expected movement for the price of that rep, which is usually $50-$100 from DH or Ali. 24HR counter on the sub dial is the easiest tell for this grade of rep without opening the cashback. Good way for that auction house to destroy its reputation for even attempting to sell that. I like how they stated it as "marked as Audemars"

Fixed a Gucci yesterday for a neighbor that spent $1500 for this watch a few years ago. Movement was hooped so I ordered a new one and swapped it in, $16.67 shipped... a $12 Ronda movement for a $1500+ watch

Holy crap. 10k for a fake ass watch with a quartz movement ?!? They aren’t even a good counterfeit if the second hand ticks instead of sweeps. There’s a chump born every minute.
