Like Sonick said, Swiss made brands like Tag and Tissot are actually respected watch brands - the companies dedicate their whole brand towards watches, Quartz or not. But Gucci, Armani, etc. are fashion brands, and they make their watches to be more fashion accessories. So pretty much one of their designers draws a picture of what they want the watch to look like, and send it into a generic watchmaking company, likely Fossil, who then outsources to China to be made. Ironic how people still hunt for "authenticity" of these watches. |
^Well, Tag Heuer made sunglasses and branded cell phones for awhile :) |

Haha, Tag's glasses are actually pretty decent too. They have some interesting styles.. But yeah, they wouldn't be my first choice.. |
Contrary to what Tag would make you think, they do not make their own watches, cell phones, or glasses. Though they have a number of great watches in their line up, they are outsourced to the highest bidder and have the generic swiss movements put into them (nothing wrong with this). Unfortunately you will find similarities in design with such brands as Tissot, where a rebranded "Tag" version of the same watch is easily triple the price. For this reason, 2nd hand Tags can be bought for a fraction of the retail price. If I could afford an entry level Tag brand new, I would get an Oris instead (considering today's market). Also, please try not to base any purchase decision on "the watch snob." He is purely commentary but his suggestions are nonsensical. If he is suggesting a reader to ditch his Uboat and buy a Patek, that is pretty much the same as telling me to get rid of my Subaru and get a Maserati (or something worth 5x my car). A better comparison would be suggesting the reader to look at Sinn watches, as they are a tool watch, and carry a lot more cred than Uboat for the same price. |
Yeah, after his articles were mentioned on this thread I read a few of them and they are entertaining but I would take what he says with a grain of salt. |

Yah the bashing they received from the community such as TZ and WUS was anything but nice. Nothing wrong with Tag, but it may be more appropriate to say that there is nothing wrong with Heuer (remember those old school stopwatches??). I've owned a Tag previously, and sold it due to a certain golf star's reputation. |
What do you guys think about michael kors Posted via RS Mobile |

^ replica meaning fake? A watch is 20k because of the movement, brand and materials etc. Why would you buy a fake? Posted via RS Mobile |

^ do you wear fake designer clothing , leather goods etc? If you already do, then i dont see a problem with your choice because those all make financial sense to you. |

But the Panerai you posted wasnt just copying the style, it's also got the Panerai logo on it. I have no problem wearing a shirt that has a similar design to a designer label. However, i wont wear a replicated style that's stamped with a logo that didnt make the product. to each their own i guess |
i think what jackygor posted were the originals, but there are some "replicas" out there that are just "homages" and don't have the logos. i could be wrong about his idea of a replica. besides, why would anyone want to wear a replica watch. it can't keep time! |
