lol. come on stealing cars, fighting with cops, that's not any better than MW2. :p

twitchyzero 06-29-2010 05:09 PM

i have BC 80GB from September 2007

i was 20 minutes into playing Dirt 2 and the system shutdown (three beeps followed by flashing red)

went to the back and cut the power and turned it back on and there was a message how the system wasn't shutdown properly..then 10 seconds later same thing happened again.

i've never had the issue before...usually it gets frozen and i have to shut the system down manually.

do i still have some hope as it's not yellow light..but red? i hope it's just bad connection between hard drive and nothing serious :(

Does the light looks like red and green coming on at the same time? YLOD is actually easy to repair. It looks complicated, but it's not too bad.

If it will last 5 minutes of so then turning on, trade it in quick. EB give out $100+$50 credit for trading it (80GB with memory card reader?) toward new consoles. with 6 other games u might have or can be found cheaply, you should be able to get a slim....

twitchyzero 06-29-2010 05:30 PM

yeah it's the CECHE01 with backwards compatibilty + card reader.

so i let it cool down for an almost an hour..booted it up and damn..yellow light :(

i'll try to attempt to fix on thursday...i really dont want to get a new system...i paid over $600 for it, i use all 4 usb ports + the ps2 functions and i want to keep all my saves

Mugen EvOlutioN 06-29-2010 07:31 PM

just borrowed red redemption from my friend

dude man

the fucking frame rate is choppy and not smooth
piss me off

apparently only ps3 has this issue

:bullshit:

dub.g 06-29-2010 08:48 PM

the 360 version of RDR looks better and more crisp as well..

ScizzMoney 06-29-2010 10:22 PM

I get lots of slowdown on RDR and I have it for Xbox, so it's definately not just a PS3 thing.

twitchyzero 06-29-2010 11:47 PM

woooot

i fixed my YLOD...took me couple hours i'm a noob..it was so quite different from taking apart PC's...doesn't help that the plastic case was fragile

cleaned it well from dust and reapplied thermal paste...fans don't kick into high gears as frequent now.

dub.g 06-30-2010 12:02 AM

its only temporary

i did that with my 60 gig ( RIP Backward Compatiblity) and the first time it lasted a good 3 months.. did the heat gun method again and it lasted a week, did it the third time and it lasted a day.. did it 4 times more after that because it keep YLOD everytime i turn it back on.. i said fuck it and bought a slim ps3 after

twitchyzero 06-30-2010 12:23 AM

man its not right
sony should give the early adopters (ones that paid $500+) longer warranties

why don't they just man up and recognize the failure rate has a larger margin than a normal defective rate due to poor heat dissipation.

hotjoint 06-30-2010 07:33 AM

my 60 gig died about a year ago :(. I got it fixed but it only lasted 2 weeks then the next time it lasted 1 day. I said fuck it and bought a slim and sold the 60 gig for $100 on CL to some guy that used it for spare parts. I miss my backwards compatability. As for RDR being slow and choppy on PS3, I haven't had any issues at all.

thats weird, my friend came over last nit with his new RDR and we put it into my slim, and it was laggy. he went home and play on his fat 60gig and it was still choppy. He claims that when he plays at his friends house on the 360 it was nice and smooth

thats a shit dl, you can fix it/get it fixed (by me) for chap and sell it for $300 if you don't need the backwards compatibility.

then you did it wrong. unless you use some no clean flux nd get ital under the chips, it wont last. if you use the flux properly, it will hold.for a very long time

twitchyzero 06-30-2010 10:04 AM

^ i only followed the youtube heat gun reflow methods..not sure what clean flux you are talking about.
too bad you're in kelowna or i'd send it your way
anyone had experiences with dealing ylod fixes locally that lasted them a longgg time?

good to hear u got it fix. make sure u clean up all the dust inside before you put it back in.

if u have 60GB backward competiable, I believe the trade in value is something like $180+

twitchyzero 06-30-2010 01:25 PM

mine is the 80GB motorstorm one with semi-software ps2 backwards compatibility

do you know much the trade in is for that? i checked the rfd thread and it only has info on 20gb which was like 35 bucks+ extra 50 lol..
i think the promo ends end of july...how much did you end up paying?

underscore 06-30-2010 01:34 PM

^ sell it privately for 250-300...

you do the same stuff, except you flow some no-clean flux (you can get it from an electronics parts store) under the chips first. this cleans the solder connections and allows it to reflow much better, and make it more stable in the long run.

any store you take it to that's any good, will be doing the same thing (the only better method requires a verrrry expensive machine to do).

If I had enough interest at once, I could make a trip to Van and pick up several consoles, bring them back and fix them all, then return them... Or if someone from RS is coming up here.

with memory card reader, right? I believe it's $100+$50.

I end up trading enough games for another one and use my fat for bluray only. :D I was lucky, located 12 games for around $150 last month for the new slim. It would have been easier last week with Rogers Video dumping all used games at good price. :D That's also when I uprgaded my Arcade 360 to Slim for cheap. :p

twitchyzero 06-30-2010 02:54 PM

how does it work though
say the fat is worth 150...you are supposed to cover the rest by trading in games? that's like another 150 worth of credits.

and i'm assuming they test to see if it opens properly? otherwise i can see people just bringing in RROD/YLOD systems

funny enough i actually use all 4 usb ports and the ps2 bc on occasion.

$150 means 6 games worth $8 TIV in EB. If you do it right, 6 games are around $60~90 to obtain. If you have some games already, it will make it easier.

If you can find something good in Rogers for 3 used games @ $25, then best case scenario is, you only need to spend $50. It was easy last week, but it might be a little difficult now. But finding games aside, if you have some games you dont want or wouldn't mind getting it back later for cheaper, it's a pretty good promotion from EB.

USB hub is cheap on DX. I missed my card reader, but I can live with extra usb attach to it.

It's just an option, dont consider it if you don't want to waste your time looking for games. :p

underscore 06-30-2010 04:15 PM

if you're gonna sell a backwards compatible 80gb for $150 let me know, cause that's a steal

ecsw 06-30-2010 04:18 PM

software cpmpatible.
also, EB trade is like trading cars, tax only on the difference. therefore, $150 is more like $168.

But as for me, i will never sell it. just use it as 2nd bluray player.

Mugen EvOlutioN 06-30-2010 04:26 PM

just popped in transformer played 30 minutes

meh not feeling it
