LightRoom 3 users, there's an update available, 3.4.1. just open up your app and click on updates.

Nikon files patent infringement against sigma Oo

Quote:

Nikon Corporation (KIMURA Makoto, President, Tokyo, hereafter referred to as “Nikon”) filed a patent infringement suit against Sigma Corporation (hereafter referred to as “Sigma”) to Tokyo District Court on May 25, 2011. Nikon’s lawsuit seeks an injunction against Sigma’s manufacture and sale of infringing interchangeable lenses with vibration reduction for single lens reflex cameras, along with damages for past infringement.

Nikon has invested considerable resources in the form of research and development over a period of many years. Such investments have created intellectual property that are important business assets of Nikon and have enabled Nikon to continuously provide the products and services that satisfy its customers requirements.

Although Nikon attempted to resolve Sigma’s patent infringement through negotiation, a non-adversarial resolution could not be reached. Consequently, Nikon concluded that filing a lawsuit was the only way it could protect its intellectual property.

Apparently, according to Reuters, Nikon is asking for US$150 million in compensation.

just gave Helicon Focus a try, for focus stacking. i took several shots, starting with the foreground in focus:

and worked my way to the back of the subject, slowing focusing every shot. here's the last of the shots, my 8th image:

once that was done, i loaded up all the 8 shots into the app, and clicked on "run". took about a minute or two, and it took the sharpest bits and produced this:

Did you freeze the beetle? How did you get it to stay still for the shots?

N.V.M. 06-01-2011 11:03 AM

i waited until he got tired? lol. seriously, left him alone for quite a while before he settled down. i needed about a 30 second window of no movement. the software will align slightly offset images together as well.

ddr 06-01-2011 12:51 PM

what's the difference of this software and doing this in PS? most ppl stack them in PS

interesting software nonetheless

in PS, you have to merge all the images. then you have to align them all, then you have to blend them, and i'm not too convinced the result is better.

My friend just won this lens... I'm drooling so BADLY.

Can't wait to see this lens in person:

Vivitar 135mm F1.5

Yes, not a typo... F1.5...

77civic1200 06-05-2011 07:46 AM

What size screw mount is that? the description doesn't say? Those threads look pretty deep to be a camera mount...

Hehe 06-05-2011 08:35 AM

^

The lens is only produced in T-mount... so.. adapters are available for pretty much any mount out there. :D

Hehe 06-07-2011 10:24 AM

As I said on the Vivitar Lens... it should be here next week.

I'm picking it up for my frd in Blaine as he will be out of town for a good 3 weeks.

Do any RAPE members want to come to try this beast out? :D Sorta a mini photo-meet.

I'd love to take some shots but I left my D700 in China when I came back last week since I planned to head back there again relatively soon. Have a T-->Nikon F adapter... so, all Nikon shooters are welcome to try it out. :)

Matsuda 06-07-2011 11:10 AM

What's RAPE? We're GRAPE =D

LiquidTurbo 06-09-2011 03:55 AM

If you put a lens that has image stabilization onto a body that has IS also.. does that mean you would get double the IS??

gars 06-09-2011 09:02 AM

You have to use one or the other - you can't use both. Usually if the IS is built into the lens, it'll work better than the in-body IS - especially if it's a longer focal length.

Senna4ever 06-09-2011 07:51 PM

LOL.... bye-bye, shutter mechanism!

Impressive, but most people would not notice the difference in real world shooting. Having said that, I'm slowly changing my cards to Lexar Professional 400x cards.

ninjai123 06-09-2011 08:22 PM

holy shiet...how much is that 600x card lol...

LiquidTurbo 06-09-2011 09:47 PM

lol. Who takes 500 pictures continuously at 9 FPS? LOL

What happened to the daily photo thread? I couldn't get into it earlier and now it seems to have been deleted?
