Is Hakkasan any good? A friend of mine raves about it and their 5-course coupon is intriguing but recent reviews are pretty bad.

xmisstrinh 05-21-2012 10:08 AM

^^^ i went there with a group of people for the 7 course meal groupon thing and it was below average. never again. food came out lukewarm to cold, service was slow, and the food was bland bland bland.

tiger_handheld 05-21-2012 05:56 PM

The champagne was nice :) Ordered 2 bottles from what i remember..

The Coquitlam Grill 8/10

Went there with a couple of my buddies, to be honest we didn't feel like going to ihop or DeDutch so we gave this place a try.

For the price you pay, you get a whole lot of food, no joke. The food there was pretty good compared to other breakfast place's. All-day breakfast was great for us.

LG hostess's were working :megusta: really wasn't expecting this cause the place didn't look that appealing at first but hey, never judge a book by its cover.

Service was okay, The hostess grabbed our drinks for us then the waitress came by and ordered our drinks again so we had to pay for those two sets of drinks.

so anyway I'm no critic but overall good experience, definitely will be going back for the food and lg's.

westopher 05-23-2012 11:09 PM

Abigail's party.
Food 8/10
We had the pemberton meadows burger with poutine, steak tartare and mac and cheese. All was good. Wasn't mind blowing, but good honest food, prepared properly, and well seasoned
Price 9/10
Just over 50 bucks for all that and a nice glass of wine and a good beer.
Service 6/10
Server was nice enough I guess, but kind of awkward and didn't have much of a personality. One of the reasons I've always loved going here was that the servers and bartenders always made you feel at home, and are really welcoming. She just didn't have that.
Overall it was an 8/10
I'll go back many times over, but I prefer going for late drinks and some appies to share than for dinner here.

Really?, I thought overall everything was overly salted. I could barely enjoy my food since everything was over seasoned. I think my taste buds would be destroyed with I continue to eat here.

But what do I know. :fuckthatshit:

Xu's Wonton House inside the Crystal Mall Food court. 8/10.

-Good wontons, pork dumplings, and Taiwanese beef rolls. The beef rolls are amazing. They taste similar Peking Duck wraps.

westopher 05-24-2012 11:43 PM

Houseguest.
Food 5/10
everything was under seasoned, menu was pretty boring. Prices were out to lunch for what you got. The spot prawn ceviche was a nice dish in theory that was ruined with poor execution. Burger was good, but not 16 dollars good. Pourhouse down the street has a burger that is 10 times better for the same price.
Price 1/10
9 bucks for a draught blanche de chambly? Go fuck yourselves. Even shitty donnely bars don't attempt to charge that.
Service 8/10
Server was very friendly, attractive and had a great personality. Shame she works at such a place.
I have to say, if the prices weren't so ridiculous here I'd give it another chance. The ambiance, the room, and the people here were great, but I can't understand why they would bother to let themselves get bent over like that for what they get.

Copa Cafe

Another Chinese cafe.. can't expect much.

Relatively overpriced, shitty service, decent food. I've been here 3 times and their waiters/watiresses always seem to be pissed off.

5/10, barely acceptable.

HondaGuy 05-25-2012 02:51 PM

^^ copa cafe on cambie has been downhill lately...ever since they changed all the waitresses and that half bald headed manager waiting tables, they have the worst attitude.
Asked them to wipe dry the chairs from previous customer, they just hand you a napkin. Seems like no eye contact while taking orders, serving, ask for bill...its like get in get out mentality.

PJ 05-25-2012 04:23 PM

EXACT same situation.

That bald headed manager is a douchebag. I don't think he said one word to us, or made any eye contact. We walked in, he just dropped the menus on a table.

He came over with a pen and paper to take our order. We ordered, again, he didn't say a word. Zero expression.

Same thing when he just dropped off the food and turned around, and again when we asked for the bill, and to have some stuff packed up to go.

He just seems pissed off everytime I go there. For late night, probably rather go a couple blocks over to Gloucester for another sub-par Chinese cafe.

Lol I like Gloucester for their lunch menu.

Is this the one with many variety of Wonton's in a dozen? I tried the one in spicy soup, was thumbs up~

Gloucestor has improved in the last year or two...one of the cashiers/assistant managers is a friend of ours and she really puts in the effort to
improve staff morale and customer service. The present waitresses are better now, makes eye contact, says you're welcome and stuff, greetings...
About 4-5 years ago, their service was just like copa, rude and pissed off looking...seemed like customers were bothering their time as waitresses...

---

Tried out Cho Sun Korean bbq on kingsway, about 15 mins wait on friday but food was good. Their marinated short ribs, chicken and beef was tasty and jabchee noodles were fair but had better at jang mo jib. Good service, food came in ten mins after ordering even though it was super busy, bill came out to $60 tax incl. for 2 with a beer and a coke.
Fair price... as the noodles were $14. Would go again. 8/10.

Peanut Butter Jelly Time! 05-27-2012 05:25 PM

fish house at stanley park

had the following items:

Appys:

cajun fried oysters - didn't understand what was cajun about it... it was basically just deep fried oysters.. 3 pieces for 12 bucks.. oysters were good though

tuna tataki this was one of the dishes that were executed on the 'better' end of the scale. serving size was smaller but fish was fresh.

Entrees:

6oz sirloin steak w/ scallops: scallops had some sand in them but were cooked well, no over cooking on this one, steak was ordered medium rare but came out more like medium instead..

trio of fish: spring salmon, sockeye salmon, halibut.. all came out under seasoned and over cooked

salmon wellington: the salmon was slightly dry, puff pastry didn't have the nice buttery taste we were used to but the sauce wasn't bad and they didn't skimp on the filling.

Dessert:

buttermilk pie: not memorable, tasted more like cheesecake

lava cake: what we had was not worthy of being called 'lava' cake, it was more like a brownie through and through.

overall 5/10 they pass because of their saving grace mash potatoes which were done really well, along with the oysters (despite the small portion) and scallops. what a disappointment, you'd think with the name 'fish house' they could do their fish better.

Denny's on Davie for dinner

Peanut butter chocolate banana milkshake- soooo good

Ultimate omelette
