Roof Garten (old Ceili's). Trying too hard to be some ritzy glowbal-eque joint. overpriced food. weak drink selection. staff was friendly, but very clear that they were new to serving. would not recommend. |

Come to think of it ya, it's pretty sheltered but you still get sun on ya. Earls has a decent sized open air patio as well. |
Any restaurants you guys recommend for visitors from Toronto? Thinking places that are more uniquely 'Vancouver' that you can't commonly find in Toronto. Something mid-range. I was thinking Pidgin but that's on the high side. So far I have: Phnom Penh, Guu on Thurlow, Maenam, Chewie's Oyster House, maybe Kingyo or Zakkushi? Any other 'uniquely-Vancouver' restaurant experiences or food? |

^and Kingyo.. Not sure if they're uniquely Vancouver but out of your choices the best seems to be Pidgin or Maenam. If MSG is a delicacy and doesn't exist in TO then take your friend Phnom Penh. One meal there will have a year's worth of MSG for him to indulge in |

I think Pidgin and Maenam are decent choices to take guests out to town, especially they're not something that could found everywhere else (french/jap fusion, non traditional thai). I'm not very up to date on new restaurants so I can't think of any of top of my head. |

Anyone been to masayoshi, heard it's the young chef from Tojos. Heading there Friday for the variety hot and sushi omakase. Will let you guys know how it is. |

Danbo or food court on upstairs of Robson square and cold noodles of Motomachi 4)jap food (Sushi Bar Maumi & then one that's normal sushi bella) 5)olympic village (bow down; get their chicken wings), craft for beer and food on patio at tap and barrel with their deep fried pickles 6) ice cream at famous ice cream places; earnest, bella, nitrogen ice cream (forgot the real name), soft peaks honeycomb 7) scotch tasting at Irish Heather and then end with dinner at L'Abattoir etc |
gave bai bua thai a 2nd chance and it did so much better everything was good, only prob i had is that their pad thai is way too sweet, other than that, their curry, peanut curry, coconut rice, and mango/coconut sticky rice was good def better to go when its more dead lol 8/10 |

Agreed. Masayoshi better be delivering something sublime for those prices. As for ramen (Robson Public Market), the place is called Hida Takayama. I tried a few of the ramen there. Most were really just meh. The noodles were good (I think they do them in house?). I asked for them firm and thought that was spot on. I liked their white sesame ramen, it's really good, however, since it's just that with few condiments, it's a very 1-dimensional bowl of noodle soup. If I could do a half bowl portion, or split it with a friend, that would be perfect. But it's just heavy, and rich with no acid or textural difference to provide contrast. My palate got super bored after 5 bites. Also added the pork jowl which isn't super soft like Santouka, it still has some bounce. Not quite my preference, but good too. |

It's a classic burger with good ingredients done properly. I have a strong preference to the classic lettuce and tomatoes approach. Best burger I've had in quite a while. Stupidly juicy. Literally a small waterfall happening in the first few bites. Can actually taste the sesame on the bun. Balanced. Chips great, could go for just a few more? Coleslaw even better. Pepperoncini as an addition was nice to cut the richness. The only thing I'm sorta iffy on is the bun. It's a good bun, however I found it a touch too chewy for my liking. I found it a bit too distracting from letting the patty shine as the star. My style choice is on the opposite end of the spectrum. Like I said, best burger in quite a while. Totally recommend. |
