Okonomi Sushi on Columbia @ New West

8/10; got a bento box with lots of stuff; a bang4buck meal if u get it. came with miso, salad, sushi, tempura, teriyaki, rice, and a dessert.

the dessert wasn't that great, otherwise everything else was good imo.

Hawksworth

8.5/10

Had tasting menu, was delicious. Only complaint is it's really pricey :okay:

Cache in Yaletown for brunch 6/10
Got the salmon sandwich with fries. Fries were soggy and more like hash brown. Sandwich was just spinach on top of bread and thats all I tasted. I can see why this place is so quiet on a saturday afternoon

Pair Bistro 8/10
service was OK but place was cramped and they were constantly bumping into each other. Got the Feast platter, Game hen was okay but really couldn't say its better than supermarket rotisserie chicken, pan fried halibut (catch of the day) was dry/bland/tough pretty typical of halibut. Everything else was pretty good, especially the sides.

hamsup 07-16-2012 08:40 AM

Indochine... 7/10...

the beef stew wasnt very good but the wings and butter beef was worth the visit.

Supafly 07-16-2012 09:08 AM

Went to HUB in yaletown; just for desserts.

6/10.

Had their brownie, cookie, and their apple crumble. I would have to say it satisfied my dessert cravings. Would deff go back for the dessert only.

Service lacked terribly. We waited 20mins even before I was even offered a glass of water...and another 15mins before they even took my order. Needless to say the resto was near empty and only two servers on staff.

It helps to have *really* good company to pass time off.

So is the place called Sushi Kamizato, or Sushi Kazimato?

How big is it? Thinking of going there this friday

Verdasco 07-16-2012 12:02 PM

gotham steakhouse

tried the rib eye steak and filet

rib eye more flavour but more fat, filet is pure meat no fat but more blood due to being a lump

best dish was the oyster rockerfeller.... :sweetjesus: and the dungeness crab cake was small and wasn't worth it.

if you are a steak person sure but i am a seafood so i probably wouldn't go back for 40$+ steak again

8/10

edit: man i should of tried the porter..... had no clue what it was too! rib eye > filet though

Porterhouse has two sides - filet and NY, separated by a bone in the middle. Order the Porterhouse, skip the appy (pricey, and the suck), go straight to mashed potatoes and sauteed mushrooms = :sweetjesus:

I can probably eat 2 Porterhouse myself, but that would be $110 just on meat... anyone know if I can mega-size the Porterhouse?

:fullofwin:

Gotham's has their Porters delivered to them and I'm pretty sure they only come in the 24oz size.. They don't have the saw to cut the steaks themselves. They only do Tenderloins and Striploins themselves so they can do larger cuts of those, from what I remember!

caronimo 07-18-2012 09:37 AM

was going to head there but was running late so cancelled my reservations. they reserve your table for 2 hours so if you show up an hour late you only get an hour to eat.

Grounds for Appeal. 9/10 for the Butter Chicken curry.

For $7.95, you get delicious butter chicken curry, with pita bread, and rice.

845 Cambie Street, located in the lobby of the Law Society building.

Naan bread right?

Sushi Shelter 101

Portions were very big. Prices were decent. Nifty little restaurant that seated probably 25 people only. Lots of retro toys and novelty decorations.
Quality was alright.
Got free desserts compliments of the chef (mango ice cream with deep fried banana and fresh strawberries.)
Fusion rolls were soso, while their basic rolls (unagi, negitoro etc were pretty good)
Agedashi tofu sucked.

7/10

Ohukuya Japan House (also known as Jap house) on Kingsway and Slocan
8/10

Prices are cheap. Portions were big along with the great combo deals they give you. Close to home for me which is great.
It's open til 2:30 am. (opens at 5pm). Great place to eat at when you're craving in the middle of the night because most sushi restaurants are closed before midnight.

My favourite thing to order is salmon sashimi salad. Their vinaigrette goes nice with it and it the presentation just makes it look so delicious! (which it is)
For sushi, I usually order the 3 roll combo for I believe 6.95 but I forgot what the choices for the 3 roll was..
I usually order dynamite roll, crab meat tempura roll, and salmon tempura roll. (I love tempura). :fullofwin:

But I also love ordering the spicy sushi combo for 8 dollars or something. Forgot what the rolls were called but it's tasty.

No, Grounds for Appeal (845 Cambie Street, lobby of Law Society of Building) serves the butter chicken curry with pita bread and rice. I wish they served Naan instead but it's actually pita bread.

-still a good lunch for $7.95.

Brado on Commercial dr. 8/10. Good food at fairly decent price. Lots of variety too. Everything from Greek and American diner style food to bubble tea.

I'm still confused as to whether or not this is one store, or 3 different stores in the same building. Perhaps sharing rent or something.

Supafly 07-26-2012 10:08 AM

went to kyo....gave it a benefit of a doubt....well....

5/10 being generous.

I think the only good thing outta this place is the spicy lamb bbq, my beer and our waitress.....

The sushi/sashimi is god awful (which was expected);

walked out with a 45 dollar tab to my name feeling empty.

Wicked poutine though.
