Heirloom Vegetarian 9/10.

The setting, service, menu, and food were all fabulous. I will definitely be returning.

It is not a restaurant that you must be a vegetarian/vegan to enjoy.

Looking forward to checking it out. My good buddy Dave is the manager there. I'm a serious meat eater, but I have heard good things from like-minded people.

Went to Basil's Sub on Denman.
http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/14/16999...-Sub-Vancouver

Tried their pulled pork sandwich for the first time today. Sandwich was decent sized with a generous portion of meat. Though the BBQ sauce was adequate, it could still use a bit more work (more smoky?). If they were a little closer to the office, I'd definitely drop by more often in the future.

The place is relatively small (seats around 6 people) and looks like a homier Quizno. Menu is relatively short with only 7 sandwich options; most of them priced at $7.95. Pretty fair considering the location and quality of food.

Kamizato in Poco.

9.5/10. They really put in the effort to make sure you have a wonderful experience. Food was top notch, and the service was even better.

Espana on Denman.
Spanish tapas. I went on friday after work and it was so awesome that I took my girlfriend there tonight.
Service 9/10
Great service, attentive but not overbearing. Kept our wine full, and our water.
Food 10/10
Perfect food, perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, fresh, fucking awesome.
We had the fried squid, whitebait (fried whole smelt), iberico chorizo, braised beef with potato cake, hot, sweet and sour peppers, patatas bravas, (fried potatoes in tomato sauce)
Price 9/10
All this food, and 4 glasses of the tempranillo between the 2 of us came to 95 bucks including a quite generous tip. I'd recommend this place to anyone and everyone that appreciates food. The atmosphere is perfect for a date, and they are open late, so its great for a late night snack as well. Go there.

Brown Dog Cafe 7.5/10

I had the pulled pork breakfast special and apple bacon french toast. Not bad. The sauce could have been a little bit thicker but the pork was delicious. The apple bacon french toast was awesome though! I would definitely go back for that.

What would you rate it out of 10?

pastarocket 11-05-2012 08:00 PM

Santouka Ramen: 8/10.

-delicious ramen at this restaurant. The Toroniku Ramen (tender pork with ramen) is their signature dish. -tender, tasty pork in that Toroniku ramen.

-only downside to this restaurant is the small size of the place, and hot temperature inside. Wear a T shirt while you eat ramen here.

Toroniku is the cha siu made from pork jowl. They have it in limited quantity. It's soooo damn gooood.

Boiling Point

6/10

Service was unattentive and food was very "meh". Got bored of eating it after awhile. Drinks were decent though. Left with a full stomach but didn't feel satisfied. One of those places you try once and never return to.

I always see this place as for FOBS only

the chinese translation of it means "stink stink pot" which doesn't sound too appealing to me.

Shanghai Elan Restaurant

Was planning to eat at Pittsburgh Cafe in Crystal Mall due to lack of options in Burnaby. Ended up that they had closed down and found this restaurant in its place, so we went in anyways (hungry toddler in tow).

First impression: The restaurant looked smaller than I last remembered. Though it was nice and clean, it was probably a mistake to add that private dining area. Decor was a little overboard with Chinese pride. They literally had a framed picture of Yao Ming and another Olympic athlete in the dining area. I guess the clientele had a lot to do with it. :fullofwin:

Service was exceptional. Waitress was friendly and provided us with every extra thing we needed. High chair, water, extra napkins etc., everything came with a smile.

Food we ordered:
小笼汤包 (Xiao Long Bao) - Though the skin was a little thicker than I'd like, it was passable.

上海粗炒 (Shanghai fried noodle) - Edible. Though I've had better even at non-Shanghai restaurants

嫩鸡烩面 (Chicken noodle soup) - My son was the first to try it and spat it back out (strange considering he was hungry). Then I found out why. Dish was bland as fuck and arrived with little to no soup left. Ever made instant noodles and let it sit for too long? That's pretty much it.

In the end we asked for the bill with neither entrees completed (soup noodle was practically untouched). Another waitress (possibly the owner) came by and asked us if we would like to pack anything to go (referring to the soup noodles). And I informed her that it was disgusting and tasted like glue. Fortunately, they were concerned enough to comp us for the dish. But the damage had been done. I'd never step foot in that place again despite the awesome service which is a rarity nowadays (especially for a Chinese establishment).

Hawksworth. 10/10

Kaya Malay Bistro - 1/10

Food was pretty good but the kitchen service was horrendous. We ordered at 7:15 and didn't receive our first order till about 40 minutes after as they forgot to enter our orders (for a party of 16).

At 9:30 I had to leave as I had another party to go to and at that point they had only served me half my food (4 out of 8 items on the tasting menu) - the manager provided no discount.

It was a gong show there. Would not return.

The Factory :lawl: :joy:
Was downtown with the gf, just wanted to grab something quick and cheap.
Food - 5/10. Gf had the fish tacos, was a little bland. I had the bbq chicken burger/fries, it wasn't bad actually.
Service was slow as shit, took probably 30-40 mins.
But in the end.. for $5 a meal, can't really complain.

Red Wagon Cafe - kept hearing about this place and how good their breakfast was, so I thought I'd give it a shot. When we got there, there was a 30-40 minute wait, line up literally out the door. They gave us free coffee while we waited though :fullofwin:

That was the gf's meal, crisp pork belly and cilantro sauce. It was interesting, actually really good.

I had the regular bacon/eggs/potatoes/toast. I'm boring when it comes to breakfast/brunch.

They had something on their menu called "pulled pork pancakes." Sounded interesting, but I wasn't feeling adventurous.

Food I'll give it a 8.5/10. Good portions, but nothing mindblowing. I guess you can only do so much with breakfast foods.
Service was good, servers were very nice and attentive.

YEA! Red Wagon rules!

Gnomes 11-14-2012 03:20 PM

^their reuben sandwich is pretty amazing. Bread dunked in butter before grilling. Meat is thicker than the bread.

PJ 11-15-2012 06:19 AM

^Is that on their breakfast menu?

xmisstrinh 11-15-2012 09:52 AM

7/10

not bad.

ApePee2 11-15-2012 04:28 PM

Always wanted to try out red wagon ever since they were featured on triple d.

Are they open for breakfast everyday or just weekends? What's the best time to go to avoid lineups ?

bcrdukes 11-15-2012 05:25 PM

Everyday.

There is no best time. :p

PJ 11-15-2012 05:32 PM

They are ALWAYS packed.

They are open for breakfast everyday,
and only lunch and dinner on certain days I think?

I could be wrong about lunch and dinner, but I know for sure they're open everyday.

XplicitLuder 11-15-2012 10:00 PM
