subordinate - I haven't been to Toshi but how does it compare to Sushi By Yuji? |
Toshi has a lot more choices and unique offerings. For just the sushi aspect alone and if you are about simplicity, I'd go for Yuji. As crazy as it sounds, I feel because it's Yuji's business, he puts more work in the rice and tries not to rush. But if you want more to taste for your palate, Toshi is a good option. If you want a rating wise, for what it's worth, my sister gave sushi by yuji 6/10. And Toshi 10/10. I give Yuji 10/10 and Toshi 7.5 ? (Rushed manner and honestly, I didn't feel it, didn't find it anything special) I'm a simple guy. But if you haven't tried Toshi yet, I do recommend you do try at least once. Edit: It's sort of like, Yuji = smaller menu = higher quality/care into it Toshi = more larger offerings, trying to be fancy + busy on main street + hipsters = reduced quality/care |
The fact that it's just off of Main street and full of Hipsterscum, no thanks. :fuckthatshit: Quite honestly, I'm tired of the "let's try to be different" sushi bars. It's hard to find a place that keeps things simple. I like Yuji because he's a personable guy and takes his time and care in what he serves. |
I'm so hungry now :( Posted via RS Mobile |

And I hope Sushi By Yuji doesn't come to that. |
I share the same sentiments. I really hope he doesn't cater to what people want and that the right clientele support his business and what he's got to show for. |
Hawksworth Food 9/10 Service 10/10 Probably one of the better meals I've had in Vancouver, everything tasted fresh and perfect. Tried their London-themed Side Dishes event :) Will post up pictures later! |

pork belly beer house : 3/10 what a disappointment... compared to the last time i went during the summer. Their korean bbq AYCE has turned into "AYCE go pick up the food yourself in those containers over there" -food is all cooked -everything is self served you walk up there you get your sauce your rice your chit -they give you a griddle in the middle of the table. not sure why tho, your foods already cooked. and they won't let you turn up the heat -ghetto as fuck -the waitress clearing the tables / doing the dirty work with the bright colored rubber gloves is the same person who uses the same goddam rubber gloves to carry food to dump into their ghetto ass containers -they also took used window sprayers ( which were probably used for cleaning liquids ) to store marinade for you to spray onto your meat. GROCE im guessing they can't do the open grill bbq thing because theres literally no ventilation inside the restaurant. in the summer they had fans hanging on their ceilings to keep the air flowing with windows and doors open, but during the winter even when the door is half open its cold as fuark. all the customers coming into the place all had the " wtf... " look on their faces the owner has this dead look on his face like he knows this is crap and is used to all the criticism would not recommend going during winter / 10 |

Anybody recommend cool places/bars on Commercial Drive? I don't go there much, only know Toby's, the Jamaican pizza place, and St. Augustines. |
if you like northwest style beer, nothing touches st augustines. charlatan is ok, biercraft is not too terrible either. theres also timbre, libra, the reef, and a few others that are passable. |
Charlatan over BierCraft for me. I've found the service, selection of beers and food all out shine BierCraft. |
Glowbal, meh 5/10 |

unit is right - St. Augustine's is tough to beat in terms of beer selection. The food is alright and it gets very loud in there because they turn up the music. I can't even hear myself think sometimes. As with OTG-ZR2 - Biercraft is the last on my list but again, they're known for their beer selection but their wait times are astronomically long. However, YMMV. |
Went to Yo Sushi (beside Antons) shortly after it first opened. Food was good, they really overload the fish roe. Service though..It was a decently busy night (2/3 full) and they only had 1-2 servers. Food took FOREVER to come out. We had a table of 6, 5 of us ordered a single special roll each and the 6th ordered tepanyaki. The tepanyaki took 10in to come which was fine, but our rolls took literally 40-45 minutes to arrive and they had 5 sushi chefs working. Mind you its not a very big restaurant either...probably aroudn the size of sushi town by North 6.5/10 |
Charlatan 8.5/10 Biercraft 8/10 (only had beer no food) Timbre 7/10 Belgian Fries 8/10 prefer fritz Sushi by Yuji 9/10 very good, friendly service, fresh ingredients. Omakase for two was $57 before tax. We were the only 2 ppl there at 630ish; a four-top came in as we finished our meal. I was surprised after hearing it was full the previous week.
