For what it is, the Alaska roll usually doesn't disappoint.

Paul's kitchen richmond 7/10

Ayden Kitchen & Bar in Saskatoon (Round 2 for dinner service.)

- Drink special was a Bulletbach (their rendition of a Seelbach.) This drink suffered. Poor choice of bourbon and a bad mix - ultimately due to wrong ice size/density, and lack of the champagne. Bulleit bourbon is not a very good component in cocktails but is great neat or opened up with a splash of water.

- Appetizer was a beet salad which unfortunately wasn't much of a beet salad. More of an Asian slaw that was over dressed. Beets were far and few.

- Entree was a bacon and sausage tomato pappardelle - noodles were great, loved the parsley/herbs, but was too saucy where the meats couldn't be incorporated into the pasta.

- Grapefruit dessert - this was a fun, creative take on a crumble. Not bad.

7/10

had that exact burger when i stayed at cosmo last year. wasnt impressed, especially for a 30+ dollar burger

Hondaracer 04-28-2015 02:26 PM

yea, the patty etc. wasnt anything overly special and really the foie was the only thing that added flavour because it lacked any sort of sauce really. GF had the burger with the big avacado tempura on it and basically same thing, dry as fuck no sauces

Galactic_Phantom 05-01-2015 04:14 PM

Bao down gastown.
Had the yvr and chicka bao. Portions kinda small imo but it tastes good for what it is and another snack for me to grab before work in dt.
7.5/10:
yvr advertised avacado, did not taste any
too small for me
too many hipsters

I had the one with crispy pork skin and the skin was far too crisped. Very hard to break when biting down on it. I ended up picking out most of the pieces and eating only the smaller ones I was able to chew. The pork belly that was also in the bao was nice and tender though.

I had that and their chowder for lunch, chowder is coconut based so theres a strong, but good, flavour which I enjoyed.

I went twice this month because of Groupon deal.
This were my 5th/6th time visits.
Totally went downhill fast since new.
Service was average. Food were too salty.
For their price $35 - $45 per entree
Not worth it at all.
Poor manage company. It is sad.

agreed. i do not know how this place is still alive!! food isnt good, price is way way way too overpriced, flavour is an atrocity :heckno:

Rajio is one of my favourite restaurants in the city. Always a great time and great food.

^^ chop won't close as it's under the same entity as their hotel so if it does fail they will just put a denny's there.

Big advertising dollars = Win an award.

Vancouver Magazine lacks true credibility.

They gave Ningtu a silver award for casual chinese...

To put this in perspective, this place has served me reheated xiao long baos where all the juice was clearly asorbed into the skin.

taking my girlfriend out for dinner this week. thinking about taking her to blacktail or bambudda, what do you guys recommend?

Galactic_Phantom 05-06-2015 08:27 PM

Blacktail. Order the bison tartare

6793026 05-06-2015 09:24 PM

why not og to both?
bambudda is legit for good drinks and then go to blacktail for main course.

that's what I did.

bcrdukes 05-07-2015 12:34 AM

I would go to both and being biased, I do enjoy the food much more at Bambudda.

The bison tartare at Blacktail is good, but not amazing. The drinks are way better at Bambudda, however. Take advantage of Bambudda's happy hour menu from 5:30 to 6:30. Their small plates are 50% off.

A bit of an apples and oranges comparison so figure out what you prefer for your main course and run with it.
