Sushi by Yuji 9/10

Went there after hearing good reviews from here. Went with a friend and we were both pretty happy with the food and service. Ordered an assorted sashimi, tuna, toro, and hamachi nigiri, and chopped scallop, hamachi, and the Yuji Rolls.

Food was 9/10, fresh, tasty, and I particularly enjoyed the nigiri.

Service was also 9/10, no complaints. Would definitely come back again.

Bill came to around 50$ after tax and tip.

Chipotle.

Carnitas burrito bowl. :notbad: considering its fast food, at $11 a bit expensive for fast food but the quality of the ingredients seemed really high

Based on my experiences, yes.

Eight and 1/2

Went there for brunch today. Gf's benny was good.
I got the hash scramble or something. Way too heavy on the potatoes.
Coffee was good.

All in all, a decent meal. Good service, cool interior. Nice selection of drinks too.
Will probably go back for dinner some time.

Cute waitresses too.

Service there can be very hit and miss (moreso miss) especially early weekdays. Just a heads up.

Couple of places recently, liked them both so here they go haha.

Han Ju Korean Hot Pot, in Crystal Mall

Had the deep fried chicken bowl, came with the chicken, rice, an egg, spicy tofu and mixed veggies for 7 or 8 bucks. Was able to feed my brother and I for lunch with $20, drinks included. Chicken was good, sides were good too.

8.5/10

Soho on Cambie and 19th-ish.

Can't believe I didn't know about this place before, lol. HK style cafe, much like Cattle Cafe and the like. Big menu, lots of selection and good portions. Had the baked pork chop on rice with tomato sauce, side of fried chicken and a coconut mango smoothie. I was hungry :P All very good, I just wish the chicken was a bigger portion, which is funny cuz I said the portions were good size earlier haha. Bubble tea was awesome :]

8.5/10

Texx Big Burger @ Texx Big Burger
These things are massive and messy as hell to eat.
Beef was a little overdone, but overall a decent burger.
Can't imagine how big their Super Texx Big Burger is...

Famoso
food:
6.5/10 - Pizza was good, nothing great. Not a ton of flavour in the ingredients other than the salami
Service:
9/10 - guy was so friendly it was actually hilarious. He was having a good time at work, and it made us have a good time.
Price:
3/10 - 40 bucks for ok pizza and pop is pretty out to lunch. You can get the best pizza in the city for less at barbarella.

All in all nothing special, and not really worth going to IMO. I've been before, and knew better, but I was hungry as fuck and angry because we had to go to a premarital counselling at a church to be able to get married there which was about 2 blocks away, so I walked into the first place I saw.

Wedding crasher for hire right here. :troll:

Congrats! :D

Or you can go across the street to Marcello or Via Tervere next time.

Perhaps the anti gentrification people were just pissed off at the price! ;)

I didn't realize there is a church in that area? A Roman Catholic one?

Its not catholic I know for sure, don't really know what it is though haha. Just pleasing the wifes family by getting married at a church. I've tried marcellos and was not a fan. I didn't like the cheese on my pizza and the pasta we had was under seasoned. I've heard great things about via tervere though. I don't see anywhere being able to match my love for pizzeria barbarella, but I'd still like to try it.

Farina on Main Street under the Cobalt Hotel is amazing

z3german 04-14-2013 02:53 PM

tapinade on steveston

Went because saw a guy review it last page.

Chicken and waffles.
Yup wish the waffles were more crispy. Fried chicken breading was too bread-y but would be balanced more if they put more yogurt sauce.

Gypsy Benedict/ Classic Benedict
Was warned by the waiter that the eggs are poached soft. When it arrived it was poached medium-well. Got a new one, tried to cut through everything and discovered the bottoms of the english muffin was hard and burnt. Opted to get the classic benny instead.

Classic benny came, baguette, bacon, tomato, avocado, eggs, hollandaise. Not so classic in my eyes. The hollandaise was super lacking for me, the baguette would have been better off as an english muffin or at least a more stale baguette, cause everything just mish mashed together in a bad way. Tasted like a weak benny, or a really weird salad.

They comped the benny so 5/10

I used to work for the guy that owns farina when he was the chef at campagnolo. Very talented. I like Farina a lot, but always kinda forget about it. Thanks for the reminder:thumbs:

Fable 6/10
So disappointed with the entrees, appetizers and dessert was good

Potato Crusted Chicken, potato "crust" was too rubbery and thick, but overall the dish was bland as fuck. The potatoes on the side were undercooked and this was consistent with the other entree. I brought this to my server's attention and he spoke to trevor about it who suggested to eat it with the stuff underneath to give it some flavour...

I then ordered a second entree, Roasted pork loin, again lacked flavor but the texture was spot on.

IMO any other restaurant would've comp'ed the first entree as it was simply embarrassing anyone who can call himself a "top chef" could produce that garbage.

Used to be my go-to-place for Italian food . . . until they joined Groupon. :(

bcrdukes 04-15-2013 03:43 PM

Groupon is the plague.

Pretty much what I thought too. For whatever reason, the girlfriend was dying to try this place.

I thought it was ehhhhh.
