I'm not going to judge haha but what do you normally order that racks up the bill? I ask because even with the omakase Yuji serves, it's usually $60 for two people and I leave very satisfied.

Word, I can eat a lot too.

You can rack up 50 fast, 10 pieces of good nigiri at around 3 each? + some drinks, apply, bam. Noticed he had a new one today. Today only :(

Bing Sheng Restaurant on renfew and 1st

Didn't eat here but thought I post why I didn't eat here. Came for mother days dinner, manager refused to serve us because we only have 3 people. They refused to serve another family of 3. Only wanting to serve large number of people.

Quite a few empty tables at 7:30pm. Manager never said they were reserved, just said they are not serving small parties. Bastards.

What the actual fuck?

Marshall Placid 05-12-2013 11:58 PM

Market.

8/10.

Service was average.

Bread was not served until we asked for it.

Also, at the end, the server gave us the bill without us asking for it.

It was only 9:30PM, not late.

Though, I like the pro-active thinking of the server, I prefer that the server wait for us to ask for the bill, and QUICKLY give us the bill, rather than simply giving it to us without us asking for it.

Mind you, I didn't expect this from a $85+ per person restaurant.

5 course at $85 per person.

First 3 courses were good (pea soup, seared scallop, caviar+poached egg)

The 4th (entree: Parmesan Organic chicken) was average.

The 5th (dessert) was good.

--------

On another note, I usually go once a month for brunch $29 per person on Sundays, and they are ALWAYS good 10/10.

Just dinners are average.

ShadowBun 05-13-2013 12:08 AM

what kind of brunch is it?

The brunch menu here:

Some good choices.

French toast is always good.

Seared scallops is cooked very well coupled with a perfect emulsion combo.

mejina...never heard of this fish. interesting

Gnomes 05-14-2013 08:06 PM

Zakkushi charcoal grill. Pretty good skewer food. But tiny bits of meat on the stick. At 2-4 each, it adds up quick. Had to get a bowl of rice and fried udon as filler near the end. $60 including tax and tips for 2 light eaters (partially full before entering).
Quality : excellent
Service : above average
Price & Value : average

Mejina is also known as rudder fish. yuji served it with ponzu sauce and it was delicious! the fish was very meaty and flavourful as well.

Porschedog 05-16-2013 10:26 PM

Spudshack

The poutine was delicious :D

Marshall Placid 05-16-2013 10:31 PM

J & C Top Gun, Richmond

9/10

Good and friendly service as always.

Food came out fast.

Food was fresh and had perfect taste.

Priced well (good value).

I recommend this place if you have a Chinese seafood urge.

yeah those fucks gave me the bill without asking too

JHatta 05-17-2013 01:45 PM

I don't see the issue with giving me the bill if I don't ask for it. I just ignore it until I'm ready to pay and leave.

bcrdukes 05-17-2013 02:00 PM

I've been to The Market a handful of times.

They've either asked if I'm ready for the bill or they hand it to me, letting me know if there's anything else I'd like to let them know and whenever I'm ready. I don't make it a big deal.

Saigon on Pacific Blvd.

I have been waiting for MONTHS for this place to open as there are VERY little pho places around. Could drive over to Chinatown or walk up a few blocks to BaoQi on Davie but who wants to walk up a hill on a rainy day? --Okay anyways, Saigon.

As predicted...Yaletown prices. A small costs $8-8.50 while a large cost $9-10. Menu is very limited but could be because they just opened up in the past 1.5 weeks. Spring rolls were $7.75 (3 rolls cut in half) and Salad rolls were $9 (2 rolls in half). WOW!

Anyways, opted for a rare beef+beef ball pho, gf ordered meat ball pho and shared a plate of spring rolls. Bill came to $26ish.

My only 'beef' (haha!) was the broth. WAYYY too sweet but I will commend them that it wasn't too oily. Oh and the spring rolls weren't super crunchy. Oh and one more...there was no umbrella stand to be found. Come on, this is Vancouver!! Had to lug around our umbrellies all over the floor which you can imagine how dangerous it could be with other patrons doing the same. The solution was from the waitress who said to just put it in a corner, next to some diners. *sigh*

Otherwise..it did its job. I'd come back.

I LOVE fatty broth *____________*

Went to All About Pho in Surrey two days ago and I must say, it has gone down in quality since opening. Ordered pho tai with the steak on side (usually how I rate every pho restaurant). Soup tasted like a vegetable broth and noodles were tad bit over done. For the price of $7.85 L, I expected more rare beef too. Overall, this establishment was comparable with Pho Tam but overtime the quality of its broth has lessened. 6.5/10 -- keep in mind i'm only rating its pho!

JShifter 05-17-2013 08:03 PM

subway 7.5/10 it does the job and it has them veggies !
