Nice. Earlier in the year when he first opened, he was really banking in on hopes of obtaining the liquor license to boost sales/revenues but since the food is great, I don't think he needs to worry so much. :)

godwin 07-22-2013 09:15 PM

When I first went there there were only 1 staff (besides Yuji), now there are two (not sure if it is because of summer).. but I find most of his clientele are Chinese; there are a few Caucasians that go there who sit on the bar and converse with Yuji in Japanese!

Honestly I am not sure a liquor license will increase his bottom line that much, since the decor is quite sparse it is not that people stick around for a long while. I think he benefits more from higher traffic flow ie more rounds of customers.

Came by today at Homer Street Cafe & Bar at around 6:50PM on Saturday to grab some take-out.

There were like 8 staff members at the front near the front door (corner of Homer and Cambie).

Wanted to say hi... but
I could not match your picture (in page 218 of this thread) with any of the 8 members so... I went to the bar to grab the take-out.

Ordered Pasta w/ Lobster and Rotisserie Chicken (half).

Tried ordering crispy chicken skin, but you guys didn't have any.

The pasta was fabulous and the lobster was cooked perfectly.

The sauce complements the pasta and lobster very well.

The half chicken was MUCH better than Swiss Chalet's (the only other comparison I could make for rotisserie chicken).

There is a lot of taste in the skin and the meat.

However, the sauce (labelled gravy on the sauce container) was... a little sour?

Is that how it is suppose to be?

It did not complement the chicken at all.

The ambiance was very nice, with a small outdoor patio.

The bartender (lady in her late 30s early 40s) was very nice.

The servers were nice to direct me to the bar to pay and grab the takeout.

Would come by again.

9/10.

Hmm I was there. I made your lobster pasta. As for the gravy, kind of odd. We do use lemon juice in it for a bit of acidity, but perhaps someone went overboard. I'll check it out. Sorry about the skin! We've had trouble with our suppliers keeping up with our demand. Since we only use free range local chickens, we have to use 3 farms to be able to keep up with how many we pump out and sometimes items like that all 3 wont have. Glad your overall experience was decent, and hope its better next time with the gravy.

I see.

Thanks for the very nice pasta and for explaining the lemon juice.

After picking up the take-out, I was debating whether to walk the long hall back to the front to ask if westopher was working... but thought better of it because I didn't want to get you in trouble since you were working. JUST IN CASE.

Crispy chicken skin is a menu item?
Like fried? Like cracklin' like at a Chinese place?

Related note:
Get your menu onto Urban Spoon.
Don't wait for a blogger to upload a crappy phone-camera version in low light.
Just jump the gun on them and upload a nice, crisp jpg.
I just went to look at the menu there and didn't see it.

Yes, I know it's on your website, but if I'm browsing for dinner options, I don't wanna be leaving Urban Spoon.

Just a suggestion.

yeah we don't use much, its really to balance acidity more than flavour, so someone fucked that up. For the record, the name is Chris if you ever feel like asking for me. If they ask which Chris say the tattooed one.:ahwow:

:O the first box picture??

That one looked the most intriguing and I was going to go for it in the coming days :(

Or did they just jack the price up?

Spectre_Cdn 07-29-2013 10:16 AM

It used to be this:
http://a3.urbancdn.com/w/s/5A/XocgwkxYney5xM-640m.jpg

for about $12 iirc.

The new chirashi is $16.95 with less variety in the bowl. You still get soba, and also tempura and miso soup, but I'd rather have the original combo. The latter two belong in bento boxes

new menu

And westopher, I'm kind of serious... hahaha I wouldn't mind joining some RS peeps and eat at your joint and have you cook for us!

Culverin 07-31-2013 02:30 AM

I have a better idea.

Let's make Westopher work on his day off.
We can "hire" him to make us dinner.

I want to just sit on my ass on watch :p

What the fuck is a "day off?":lawl:

westopher 07-31-2013 12:00 PM

CRS I'd love for some people to come in and enjoy some food. I was just talking with this about my chef yesterday. We were both saying how we kind of miss the fine dining stuff, but its so much more satisfying to make food like this, thats more approachable and good quality for a clientele you like.

bcrdukes 07-31-2013 12:36 PM

Would be cool if we could do a restaurant buy-out but......probably far-fetched since this is Revscene. :fuckthatshit:
