i found this place quite interesting too
its definitely a busy area with all the restaurants on alexandra

did you try the inhouse baked goods?

I had their philly steak sandwhich and my boyfriend had their ling cod special.
the bread was very very soft though sourdough w/ the sauce for the sandwhich wasn't really to my liking.

Bonqula has definitely got the quality of food down pat, i've also had their sukiyaki and their deep fried prawn sandwhich.

what have you tried?

my wife had some sorta sashimi dinner set - she said the fish was really fresh

i had the ground beef steak - i liked it but i found the sauce too salty

oh yeah and i also took home a green tea bun - warmed it in the oven the next day and it was goooood

Harold's Bistro & Bar

Service 7/10 - a little lacking at times

Calamari 7/10 - jalepano dipping sauce was not bad

New York steak 8/10 - wife ordered a blue rare but it came closer to a rare/medium rare but she still enjoyed it

Fettucini Alfredo 7/10

bonqula...

real quiet place but food was delish...

interesting japanese fusion food, everything's made by the chef/owner. both the chef n server were japanese. definitey more pricey than your regular japanese joints though portions were enough for me and bf to walk away full.

9/10 strictly due to parking and the area it's in.

*edit: it's on alexandra road. i just personally do not enjoy driving there.

i love bonqula. i went there a few weeks ago and it definitely makes me miss japan. i had their version of the hamburg steak and it was awesome. very similar to when i had it at various yoshoku-ya's in japan. it was a bit pricey since i think it came to $15 after tip but was worth every penny since you can actually see and taste the quality and the amount of effort the chef put into the dish.

Went to Nook over the weekend, new pizza place across from kintaro on denman.

Really enjoyed the food there, had the prosciutto ham with buffalo mozza for appy and the pizza of the day which was chanterelle, and white mushroom, provolone cheese, and ham pizza. I really like their light crispy crust, and the sponginess of the mushroom was a good contrast with the stringy cheese and crispy pizza. Definitely not the place to go if you like pizza hut or domino pizza. Pretty much the opposite of what you'll be expecting.
