i vaguely remember reading on their menu that they will have a set price menu every saturday from now on. anyways. El Caracol today for lunch http://www.yelp.ca/biz/el-caracol-cafe-vancouver http://www.dinehere.ca/restaurant.asp?r=3458 Had 3 pupusas + 1 of my friends since she couldn't finish it. 3 is good to be satisfied, an extra one just made me stuffed. $7.50 for three. Nice little place, if you go back to use the washroom after you order, you can watch them start making your pupusas. :D 8.5/10 Sidenote, the owner also owns El Caracolito cafe just two stores down, but that's more typical tex-mex kind of food. |
B.C. sushi 9/10 great food lots of stuff to choose from for all you can eat  |
sauce 7/10 service sucked ass |
Sura Korean Cuisine - 6/10 I like the atmosphere but the food itself is pretty mediocre. I've had better Korean food at lower prices. Plus, the food came really really slow. |
The Wallflower Good place for cheap drinks and chill. Good food, relatively inexpensive, good portions. 9/10 |
Jazzy Jones Food: 8/10 Service: 7.5/10 We walked in the door, were greeted promptly and given the choice of lounge or restaurant. We chose restaurant. Seated in a large booth, clean table cloth and were told that our server would be with us shortly. As promised, she was. She informed us of their house beer at $3.50/16oz. Not a bad price. Lager is Lager, not great, but not bad either. We ordered the shared platter. Got the bbq wings, chicken strips, and yam fries. Food came quickly. 6 wings, 4 chicken strips, and a bunch of fries. I know, sounds like not a lot of food. But they were large pieces. Came with 3 sauces. Ranch, Honey Mustard and Chipotle. Not bad overall. Will put up a better review when I have had dinner there. Overall though, impressed enough to go back and try it again. |

Maruwa Sushi (as recommended by kanachan in the sushi thread.) 130-11320 Steveston Highway (Just off the 99 Hwy) at Ironwood Plaza right in front of the Canadian Tire and beside the Tim Hortons and Sleep Country. Arrival/First Impressions My lady friend and I showed up and to our surprise, this place was packed to the brim. We walked inside and asked the waitress a table for 3, she said that they were full and they have reservations all night. Basically, we got the impression that they wanted to turn us away. We insisted on staying so the waitress said it would be about a 15 to 20 minute wait and so we did. A few minutes later, Alphamale showed up to join us. After reading a few posts in the sushi thread in regards to Japanese-owned sushi restaurants, if they are packed and they're doing well as a restaurant, they will turn you away so this was expected nor were we taken by surprise. Regardless, we were seated exactly 15 minutes later and brought to our seats in the rear corner. This restaurant has daily specials such as live uni, oysters and such other interesting seafood. The waitress told us about it but we declined as we were hoping to get a sample of what they have to offer. I myself, ordered a salmon don, california roll, and two pieces of chopped scallop sushi. My lady friend ordered a spicy tuna don and an oshinko roll while Alphamale was set on a combo roll consisting of chopped scallop, California and dynamite roll. We all ordered a plate of salmon sashimi (6 pieces only) to share as a group. Presentation & Food Quality Presentation wise, it was nicely done. Nothing fancy but they did what served the purpose. We didn't order anything special so it came out laid out as-is. My salmon don had finely cut pieces of salmon layered on top of one another on a bed of rice. The same goes with my lady friend's spicy tuna don in which the rice had sauce and a raw quail egg on top. The pieces of sushi were not huge and were finer pieces in which they were exactly the right size and portions. As for the overall taste of the food - it was rather delicious. I don't know what it is but the smaller pieces and fresh seafood made it taste really really good. It wasn't anything extraordinary or mind-blowing or something to turn you into a sushi snob (refer to my sig) but the food just tasted great. None of this chewing on a steak of salmon or tuna nor fighting to shove a roll down your mouth because it's so big. It was pretty good but however, I still do believe that the salmon is farmed but they use the fresh(er) ones and it doesn't taste gross like what you get at Samurai or AYCE joints. I'm no sushi expert so I can't say for sure. Service Service was somewhat attentive however, they kept on ignoring Alphamale's request for tea numerous times; I recall 3 times. :D For a mom'n'pop shop, I personally don't believe the waitresses were properly trained to serve but I don't care about this too much. The food came out on a reasonable amount of time and of course, we were seated as upon the time they quoted us. The sushi costs a tad bit more than say Sushi Garden or Samurai etc. but the quality is there so it was worth it. I'd give this place a 8.5 or 9/10. Service could be a little better but again, I don't care that much. Make your reservations ahead of time if you plan to go during dinner time. We went on a Saturday and it died down around 7:30/8pm so I'd say you're safe for the most part. Would I go back? Definitely, but a little out of the way for me. :p Good pick, kanachan! |
I always get the short end of the stick when it comes to waitresses. *sigh* |
Water Street Cafe 8.5/10 Always wanted to try and finally got a chance to saturday. Loved the atmosphere, though I wish we got 2 candles instead of just 1. I tasted some of my friend's ravioli sauce and it was a tad saltier than I would've liked. Didn't particularly like my chocolate cheesecake but the creme brulee was exceptionally good. Going again soon but this time treating my parents. |
Menya 7/10 food came real fast |

Chill Winston.... 8/10 Service.. they were nice enough to let us take a few engagement photos afterwards ! Food.. decent... nothing stellar !! Price.. drinks were a bit more expensive than i thought but the food was well priced.. Ambiance... Loving the brick decor =) |
saltlik 4/10 party of 8, appys looked good, that and my scalloped potatoes probed saved it from a joke. missed a chicken dinner, rushed it out, overcooked and burnt(grill needs to be cleaned). A couple steaks overcooked. Lava cake was ur typical run of the mill cept the chocolate taste a little like powder(kind weird) .Now im not one to complain but on a monday, in the slowest weeks of the year, absolutely pathetic. Its a shame to cause the room is easily one of the nicest in vancouver. |
Green Basil across from Metro 7/10 Service: quick and friendly Food: decent Ambiance: quiet, nice, and comfy |
Sushi Han 7/10 ordered the chirashi-don and 2 pieces of Saba. the saba was fresh and a reasonable size. chirashi-don came with 4 tuna, 2 tamago, hotate with mayo, wakame, kani salad, 2 tako, 1 tai, 2 wild salmon (surprisingly). it was a good and quick lunch. service is ok considering theres only 1 girl working the tables. |
Robson Sushi 4/10 i went for the late night menu. we ordered some sashimi and it came out really old and chewy.... everything that came out was under 5/10 also. the servers were rude and did not give good service. TERRIBLE!!! |
TACO LUIS 15/10! |
