Their “Silk road” a combo of hummus, babaganush, honey, oils, and a few other things may be the best dish I’ve had this year. a fanatasic meal all around. The Halloumi grilled cheese was so delicious

I've been wanting to go there for a few months now, but haven't made it yet. Hopefully soon, as all I have been hearing about is rave reviews!

This was hyped up to me, as the best ramen in Vancouver. It was very mediocre. The broth was very bland.. but at least clean?

Perhaps it was cause they were very busy during office lunch hour or this location sucks.

Busy during lunch hour has nothing to do with the broth being bland since the broth is made hours an hours in advance. It probably just sucks lol

My go-to right now is Jun Yuan on Vic drive. Unlimited wagyu slices and the fried wings are amazing to start off!

Second that, it's my secret spot which I randomly stumbled across 3 years ago when they opened. I was at a point where I hated going t Richmond more and more and AYCE places were limited in Van so was quite happy when this placed panned out. In terms of decor this place is as plain as it gets but being Asian we're used to this, it's all about the food anyway.

House of Dosas. 8/10
Finally decided to give this place a try since I always pass by it and see quite a few people inside and from people recommending it

Ordered the Lamb palak dosa. It was tasty. I wish I had asked for a bit more spice.

The staff were attentive and the lady manager even came out and asked us if we enjoyed our food.

Will come back here again and try the other stuff when I'm craving Indian food again. I Can't have too much of that stuff.

If you liked that, you'll LOVE Dosa Corner.
When you go, order the Lamb Vindaloo Dosa.
It's warm, but not too hot.
Prices are comparable, and the service is a bit better at Dosa Corner.

Going out to have hot pot is the biggest rip off.

You're not going crazy, it's been like this for a while now.

errrr hot pot is going epic crazy; if u ever go to The Dolar Shop (lansdowne mall beside best buy) .. it's about double the price.

To give it some credit; service is top notch; u get to get all sauce (like buffet style) along with fruits and snacks. When you wait, you get to have a mini-candy buffet (like in weddings) while you wait.

it's still not economical compared to other places.

Damn that chicken fried steak looks cray

CivicBlues 11-29-2018 09:31 AM

^actually it wasn't too bad once we started eating it. The steak was a thin hanger steak and it was mostly batter. But yeah at first sight I was: "this is huge"

Traum 11-29-2018 09:45 AM

Went to Pho Thai Hang 2 for the first time ever even though I pass by that area all the time. Man, it was some crazy good Vietnamese food! Huge portions. Fantastically grilled pork skewers -- almost nothing was charred at all, and yet it was perfectly grilled. Spring rolls were perfect too. (Gosh... I thought only non-Asian eaters would say that kind of thing...) The wifey liked their tri-colour bean drink as well.

To top it off, it was dirt cheap too! $22 before tax for two people, and that included the fancy drink.

I miss Black's. If you don't want to wait forever for Franklin's, it is a pretty good alternative.

Welcome to Ora Sushi

+1 for Ora's lunch specials.

Prices have risen by a buck or two from the menu below, but a Chirashi Don, Agedashi Tofu, Seafood Udon, and Edamame for $14 is worth.

The Salted Vine Kitchen + Bar
probably the ONLY fine dining place in freaking Squamish.
4 course set menu for 33 bucks / person .....dang it was awesome.
Servers were super nice.

Definitely a great drive with the lady and then going to a fine dining place that would have costed 60+ in Van. THen drove him in pitch darkness listing to 90s R&B... epic.

BIC_BAWS 07-04-2019 11:08 AM

Bumping this thread. Looking for reccomendations/reviews for new places in town. Unfortunately, I know I'll have to drive the Civic, cause most good food is in Vancouver. Tho, I might go try Salted Vine and hit up Porteau Cove for an easy six-month anni. (do people still do six-month annis)

6793026 07-04-2019 02:53 PM

^ if you get a chance, check out bradywine falls, literally a 7 minute walk and you get to see a pretty waterfall.

1) The Truffle House & Cafe at West Van; it's quiet, small place, nothign to rave about, yet it's in West Van.
2) Orto Artisan Pasta in North Van, close to Cap mall. Italian place, has a BEAUTIFUL outdoor place. Homey feel. Again, sure helps it's not a hipster place and / or DT feel.
3) dont want to go to Jethros or red wagon, you can try Le Marché St. George (very very small place, neighbourhood feel.
4) ubuntu canteen is a coffee shop with a small kitchen. Fraser street, not too too hipster like commercial drive.

let me know how your meal turns out.

westopher 07-14-2019 04:23 PM

Bao Bei
Savio Volpe
Como
Autostrada
Pepinos

Not all new, but all must eats.

punkwax 07-14-2019 05:04 PM

Saw the chicken fried steak pic above which reminded me I tried it for the first time ever at Fets Whisky Kitchen a couple weeks ago. Was darn good. 8/10

Nlkko 07-14-2019 06:09 PM

I Uber Eat'ed Unchai Thai a few times now. The pad thai is really good (loved the one with crispy pork). They use proper tamarind sauce and the noodles are cooked just right.

BIC_BAWS 07-14-2019 06:29 PM

Thanks for the options guys. A friend who is a Chef (at another place) recommended Diva at The Met. The girlfriend likes steaks and since gothem is a little more high-end for a six-month, we decided on this. 3 course meal for $45. I don't really expect it to be quality, but hopefully its better than Cactus/Earls food LOL.
