joe's steakhouse in caesars' palace vegas. 9.9/10 probably the best or 2nd best meal i've ever had. private room was pretty cool too. |
chubby lamb hpot 10/10 |
Wings @ Burnaby. 10/10. Service was excellent. Even got 2x cream to get rid of burning Bobby Wing sensation when I didn't ask for it. |
Pearl Castle Kungpow chicken Not as spicy as I like it but the chicken was plentiful 7/10 |
Book Kyung Ban Jeoum, One of the mods brought me there today. It's very different than the usual korean places I've tried. There were some families as well as some young couples there (all korean). We only had 3 people, so we weren't able to order too much. Just 2 dishes, plus the usual banchang
Despite all the servers for mistaking me for korean (I don't think I look korean), I will definitely return. Food was quality and has a level of complexity beyond the usual "jang mo jibs" chains. Servers were attentive in a casual manner (but not ultra-professionally efficient), they don't hover, yet are easily found. Staff was a bit sparse though. Unless staff numbers are greatly increased on weekends or event nights (fireworks), I'd probably stay away from them. |
Le Crocodile Starters - Not on menu - Baked onion soup 6/10 (very little cheese, not baked tills its brown, plus was kinda watery) Foie Gras - 1 big piece of foie gras , 1 scallop , 4 balls of melon, couple pieces of lettuce 8.5/10 Baked Bone marrow - 3 big bones, tomato fondant, mixed greens, and tiny toast 6.5/10 (way too oily and filling) Entree Duck breast with foie gras 9/10 (yes more foie gras) Grilled bone in prime rib 8.10 (meat wasnt that flavorful) No dessert as we couldnt even finish me and my fiancee's entree, ended packing it home (bone marrow, foie gras too fillling!) |
Medina Cafe 2/10 No hostess, no communication, no waffles = fail Acme Cafe 8/10 a very cozy cafe with fresh baked goods, definately a return visit. Cafeteria 9/10 Durbach has done it again, this really is food a cook wants to eat. |
Ichiro Sushi in Steveston village - 9/10 Good food, our whole party was impressed. Service was very good. Portion sizes were a bit smaller but lots of flavour in every dish. Zakkushi on Main & King Ed - 7/10 We made a reservation for 10 people at 9pm. Made the reservation way ahead of time. Arrived only to wait 1 hour and 15 minutes after our reso time. I realize they only have 1 table for large groups, but they really missed the mark on timing. Food was okay and the setting was nice for something in East Van. Service was infrequent. Yaletown Brewpub - 8/10 Nice setting for people watching. My pizza was very good. Service was so/so. Patio seating lacks privacy from adjacent parties IMO. Ordered a double highball, pour was weak. Hapa Yaletown - 9/10 Great service, nice setting, good drinks and decent food. Kev |

I've always like the food at Cafe Medina. Good, yet a little adventurous. But never pretentious. Too bad your experience wasn't up to par, cause when I've gone, I would at least call it fair or better. Just did Angkor Restaurant tonight. http://dinehere.ca/vancouver/angkor-restaurant I went there on a recommendation from a friend. And I must admit, she did not steer me wrong at all. The place is small and unassuming, it's a typical family run tiny asian place in a strip mall. Cuisine: Cambodian/Southeast Asian. We went for a late dinner at 8:00pm and it was empty. Thus service was perfect and attentive. The owner/family were just sitting at a table to the side quietly chatting, we never even heard them. Prices are between $6.50-$8.00 for a meal. Sizes will feed an average appetite, maybe a little less since the gentle use of vinegar and fried garlic really bring out the hunger. We had:
Whole-heartedly recommended. I will definately be making a return trip. |

Oyster in yaletown for all the seafood fans.. sure worth the wait...pand fried oyster was awesome! |
King's Buffet, that new place that took over Hon's at Empire 6/10, food is really, really, REALLY greasy but there's quite a selection and it tastes alright 10.99 a person is ok I guess |
I went to DB moderne bistro tonight, Started off with a chef's special, forget the name, but it was a square slice of smoked salmon with a salad on top of grapefruit, breadcrumbs, and avocado all perfectly diced in identical shape. 8/10, small portion but tasty. They give you complimentary cod fishcake balls. 6/10, boring but good nonetheless. Flatbread with wild mushroom 9/10, thought it would be boring but it tasted quite good. I was hoping for the escargot like the menu says online but they didn't have it. mains, chef's special, veal wellington....not as good as it sounds, taste was quite bland and the veal was cooked perfectly but was boring. had spinach around the veal, served with asparagus and white asparagus puree. Coq Au Vin, chicken, very good but very salty. comes with roasted garlic and bacon. dessert was bailey's sundae? I wasn't impressed. And the chef's special, peach cobbler with cream cheese ice cream and fresh rasberry. 8/10 bill was $121. Get a side of fries, theyre awesome! overall, too salty....7.5/10 experience. Would like to try the burger but people have not been impressed.. |
Jack in the Box @ Birch Bay I decided to be boring and got the Jumbo Jack combo. I normally get the Sourdough Jack but decided against it which I will stick to hereon. 5/10. I ran into an old skool RS member, KingzCHB while there. Haven't seen that guy in ages! :D |

Had a little get together with friends. I made some sushi & Takoyaki, but it was more of a roll your own hand cone party. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2..._7893-Edit.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2..._7894-Edit.jpg Berry parfait http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...I/IMG_7917.jpg |

Makoto Sushi (Rumble and Royal Oak in South Burnaby) 8/10 People say it's hit and miss, so I went to see what that meant. First of all, it's a mom and pop kind of place. Run by a Japanese couple. I went there at around 8:15 in the evening (they close at 9:30). Sushi was not bad. The rice was a little on the moist side on the BC Roll I ordered, but the nigiri was perfect. The donburi was awesome. Real home cooking taste. Yakitori was also done well. The owner came out and chatted for a while. OK, he did more than that, which was nice at first. Anyway, it's a place to try if you are in the neighbourhood. Definitely go for the Oyako donburi. |
