Went to Happy Sushi because of the review that said it was AYCE.

Well, I went to the one in Vancouver (Victoria and 41st), it definitely isn't AYCE. It's also shit for food.

-1/10
I understand it's a small family run joint, but their daughter was stomping all over the place making a fucking racket. The food sucked in all possible ways. Please avoid. I don't think their Richmond one is any better (although that might be the one that is AYCE). However, if it is indeed AYCE, if the sashimi is of the same quality (bland, tasteless, wet) that I had...I'll pass on that, too.

the new Wallys

till the end of the month, double cheeseburger for $5

Kimura Sushi on Rupert Street, across from Chong Lee.

8.5/10, for now.

Still a new place, but lots of positives. Good rice, for starters, and most things are made from scratch. Overall, a good experience. Don't go with high expectations. Just try it and take it for what it is, a new restaurant. People have complained about service and whatnot. It wasn't an issue when I went. The place is what it is. It's in East Van, LOL. It's not Tojo's nor is it Sushi Garden. Lots of potential. I recommend you try it out for yourself.

^ i live about 5mins away from Chong Lee and had no idea there's sushi place opened across from it. Maybe i'll go check it out when I have time.

Olive Garden - 8.5/10

Long waits like usual, but great service plus food. Ordered the Chicken scampi + calamari.

I don't think they are related.

I hate to spread the news and have you guys flood there and take up all the good seats, but it's pretty much hands down the best AYCE i've been too.
- Quality of food (fresh sushi, nicely fried stuff, short ribs were sooo tender)
- Decor (they have a freaking giant crystal chandelier)
- Service (attentive and quick)

Food doesn't come out at the ridiculous pace at like Kingsway sushi, but I'd say that's a plus cause it's a heck of a lot fresher.

Was with the gf today
phnom penh 9/10
Wings were as good or better than usual. I even ate the little garlic chunks
Rice noodle with beef ball wasn't great and a little pricey IMO. Gf liked the meatballs but soup and noodles were bland
Lemongrass chicken was great. Hard for them to screw it up though lol

Cheesecake etc. -10/10
Stood around for 5 mins to be seated. At least 4 empty tables and it was the two of us...
Sat for 10 minutes waiting to order no one came. Flipped the menus over and turned around looking for server
Still no service so I just left and told the gf that we weren't gonna pay for shit service

At Michi? Right now cos gf wanted to go here originally anyways. Will review afterwards haha

Edit: Michi was alright 7/10? Not a fan of their liege waffle Too chewy for me. Belgian waffle is better
Price was very reasonable for a semi sit down dt establishment however I think I prefer la Bretagne creperie around the corner

Guu @ Aberdeen
7+/10
Nothing spectacular imo, as a first timer at Guu, I really was expecting more, from the reviews that I've heard

You should never expect much when going to Guu.

Bonka 10-11-2010 11:47 AM

^ ^ ^

Thank you. Guu w/ Garlic is slightly above average at best. Can't imagine the other locations to be much better.

Senna4ever 10-11-2010 12:57 PM

Kingyo is much, much better....but unfortunately more expensive - they actually care about preparation & presentation.
