boathouse richmond

- service: was absolutely excellent 10/10 for service, even though our food came at separate times... our server was extremely apologetic and comp'd our desserts

- food: crab was great, lobster ravioli sauce was a little tooo tomatoey for my liking.. but still good. steak was done just right like i asked (medium rare) portions were generous as well only thing was that the seafood pot pie left something to be desired.. sauce just tasted a bit off 9.5/10

Anton's Burnaby - 5/10

Went to see the hype of lining up for pasta.

Pasta was overcooked so it was too soft. The linguine was supersized, like it was bloated or something. Other table's pasta looked kinda overcooked as well. So part of the reason why the portions look so huge is because they are overcooked so the pasta is bigger.

I like my pasta "al dante", isn't that default texture for pasta at a restaurant?

Won't be going back.

Grub (on Main between 27th and 28th)

Started out with the house bread plate served with parsley hummus, crushed olives, red pepper pate accompanied by a gin martini and a white Riesling. Lady friend had linguine with grilled tilapia served over a cream sauce alongside with grilled BC scallops garnished with parsley and garlic cloves. I, myself, had the pork entree. A grilled (and hefty) serving of pork chop (bone-in) with gai-lan and 3-bean stew. The pork chop was very juicy. Could've been a little more tender but the stew made up for it. Both entrees were delicious. Well done both presentation and taste wise and it came out piping hot. We passed on dessert as we were way too full.

Prices were decent. $8 for the bread plate and about $16/$17 for the entree. I wanted soup but they were sold out early in the evening. The cool part about this place is that the daily specials/entree menu changes everyday so you will never get the same thing twice (or so they say.) The chairs, tables, and interior are very basic and not in-your-face posh nor snobby. Very non-chalant, sit down, shut up, and enjoy your food type of place.

Cons: Long waits. We went on a Friday night so it was expected but it was a 45 minute wait. We didn't mind as we were prepared to wait so we just explored Main Street and its quirky stores. The establishment is small and narrow and they have a strange/childish wallpaper which was neat to look at. Bottom line - you come here to enjoy your food.

Overall: Friendly staff. Awesome un-hipster and unpretentious fare for the price.. Quality is not sacrificed. I'd definitely return. I'd give this place a 9.5/10.

Lady friend had fresh clams over marinara spaghetti. Nothing special. 6/10

Dessert: We decided to pass on this.

Service: Meh as usual. It's The Drive and this joint isn't known for service - 7/10

Go for their calimari appetizers. BEST EVER.
Main Entree. Their specialty is their pizza. never had any pizza better than theirs.
their otherdishes are aiiitee but i usually go there just for the pizza.

Ebisu, Robson/Bute. Flooded with people on Saturday's, Cute/Hot asian girls, Slow meal and appetizers, fast drinks.

Overall, better than Ebisu in Richmond.

Christopher Steak & Seafood Restaurant and Lounge - out in downtown Kelowna

me and my date shared an escargot for appetizer. It was delicious..kinda too salty but it was alright. We haven't had that for a while so yeah.

I had the striploin cooked to medium rare..it was good although the potatoes were kinda burnt and hard.

My date had the prime rib. I took a bit out of hers and the prime rib was delicious. very juicy and the sauce was great.

Service was good..but not the best
Very lovely atmosphere, classy and romantic setting

overall I'd give it a 8/10

les faux bourgeois

Exciting dining room you would never know it was a former low end vietmanese diner lol.

Dinner was well crafted and very rustic, wasnt overly impressed but definately hit on all marks. Definately a new corner stone in the non foodie market of east vancouver!

Gothams - literally 1 min away from Holt
9/10

unusual main course - u have to order the sides on its own. so if u ordered steak. thats all u get. if u want mashed potatos or veges etc etc, u gotta order it on the side. uber pricey, but uber good. service is top notch.

What do they serve there? And what did you have? What are their prices like? I've been meaning to try this place. :)

Friday - Grub 7/10
Quite disappointed since I've been reading such rave reviews on the net. Had the sablefish and gnocchi dish, and found that the gnocchi and veggies provided were way too bland for my liking. Service was lacking as well as both bread and spoon were forgotten for a stew dish that was also ordered. The sablefish was cooked perfectly though, and was delicious.

Saturday - Les Faux Bourgeois Bistro 8.5/10
Nothing to blow you out of the water, but like stated above, very very solid in all aspects. Nice room and ambience, good food, and great value. Compared to Grub, this place was way better. It saved my weekend from being a dining disapointment after my experience at Grub.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience at Grub. I read a lot of reviews about the place and apparently, it's very hit and miss. I, however, had an excellent experience at Grub as per my review above. Perhaps give it another go?
