Ya, unfortunately most teams don't trade top 6 forwards for pucks. Two things have to happen, you have to have a team that wants to trade with you and you have to give to get. Without significantly weakening the defensive depth of this hockey team what can they give up besides Schneider who alone probably won't net much that will return the top line forwards we need?

I'd love to hear some of your hypothetical thoughts on what players we should bring in here and what we'd need to give to get them?

Edit: For the record I want to see this team succeed obviously. I hope they find a way to fill most the holes up front and put a competitive team on the ice. It also won't be fair to judge the team until Christmas so like everyone else I'm eagerly waiting to see what they do.

comeeeeeeee on july 1st

Harvey Specter 06-23-2008 02:54 PM

Well Gillis isn't about making friends or has friends on the team he doesn't want to get rid off so you know this team will look different come training camp. On a side note, I heard that Naslund has sold his home in Vancouver...I guess he's not returning to Vancouver if the rumor is true.

Damn... read this four times and I still don't understand what you just typed :(

Yeah, I heard that Nazzy sold his Vancouver house too. Is he planning to go to another team or retire from NHL?

Hondaracer 06-23-2008 03:24 PM

fuck the province and fuck those articles

realistically wtf does the public want him to do? Nonis was NOT 1 year off a complete plan, he was wayyyy off, and as gillis has said from the beggining, the canucks are still a long ways off from success, and success doesnt come from one draft..

stuff99 06-23-2008 03:24 PM

he told me he's moving to bertuzzi's

true story

Ch28 06-23-2008 03:52 PM

Just a heads up

Trevor Linden special tonight on Roger's Sportsnet at 9pm. It's suppose to be a special that will look back at his entire career :)

What I mean is Nonis had players he liked on and off the ice that he didn't want to trade, Gillis is new and doesn't have any favorites so he's willing to move whoever to make the team better.

shawn79 06-23-2008 05:09 PM

got a feeling naslund will go to pittsburgh finish his career where he started.... :(

Why's that? Does Naslund have any ties with Pittsburgh?

it was mentioned that he sold the house cause of the uncertainty but he's open to all options, including coming back to the Nucks

shawn79 06-23-2008 09:18 PM

i couldnt even swallow my sushi while watching the linden tribute :(

He wouldn't sell his house if he considered coming back - it just doesn't make sense. Chances are, Naslund will be gone next season.

mako 06-23-2008 09:39 PM

yeah thats true, im just relating what i read in the paper of what Markus said

guess we wont know for sure exactly who's going to be on the team till we get closer to the start of the season

6thGear. 06-23-2008 09:43 PM

the linden tribute brought back so many memories. that one shift vs. the north stars..damn. what heart and determination. i think its why the older generation of fans is always so critical about the later players. trevor set the bar TOO high!! no one has able to follow in his footsteps since.

raygunpk 06-23-2008 09:55 PM

^Then came Cody Hodgson.

b0unce. [?] 06-24-2008 02:21 AM

dude, naslund is rich... he's probably buying a bigger, better house.

hehe

Razor Ramon HG 06-24-2008 02:22 AM

Anyone record the Linden tribute?

He's not big enough to send opposing players through the glass. Hardly a Linden.

I've been trying to do that with some previous HD UFC events but I don't think it's possible :(

Nope, if Naslund doesn't come back to Vancouver, there's only one destination I can think of : Anaheim.

If Selanne doesn't come back for one more year, Naslund would be the (almost) perfect stand in. They just better not give him Bertuzzi money, and lock up Corey Perry first. Also, if anyone's noticed, Nonis was hired by the Ducks for a management type position (they haven't been specific). My theory is that they're getting Nonis used to how Anaheim runs, then after next season, Burke leaves for Toronto and Nonis steps into his place.

Gumby 06-24-2008 01:54 PM

Would Detroit want Naslund? :D

6thGear. 06-24-2008 04:42 PM

i was reading sundays province, and i read an interesting article. although i can't seem to find it on the province website. seems like the canucks passed on the youngest staal brother and the guy who just lead his bchl team to a championship and was also the leading playoff points leader for Yann Sauve. thoughts on this? i didn't realize the youngest staal brother was already trying to make it into the nhl. thoughts on this guys?
