As I’m writing this, John Shorthouse (Canuck’s play-by-play) is on the radio and he said: “Up until 24 hours ago I thought the chances of Sundin signing here were slim and none, but since then I have heard from 2 different people that I know and trust a great deal who say it is a distinct possibility.”

Looking good. Next season may end up being better than most expected. The younger players coming up are still the key, but a solid core of experienced players will help with that. I'm looking forward to the upcoming season. I bet Vineault is a happy camper. A great goalie, good backup, decent defense, now some scoring....... not bad. Just hoping the chemistry will be there.

Hondaracer 07-10-2008 04:45 PM

^ i think regardless of Sundin signing it was going to be better then most canuck fans thought lol

but if Sundin comes it's a whole other ball game baby!

:werd: That would be dope. I was pretty bummed when nazzy and bmo left but sundin and demitra will fit nicely.

clowe 07-10-2008 05:12 PM

We currently have 13 forwards signed so if Sundin comes here, someone will be gone one way or another, I think it will most likely be Cowan and his 725k

RiceIntegraRS 07-10-2008 05:13 PM

who says we have to get rid of a defencemen, just cause we are basically at max cap space doesnt mean we are over. Sure if someone goes down, we have to replace them. let a youngster take his place. Or we can trade a roster player.

Cowan would probably be picked up on waivers i would think

deuel_1 07-10-2008 05:20 PM

if we are gonna trade a defensman it would likely be bieksa, likely suitors are tampa and buffalo one tampa poster on hockey futures offered jussi jokinen and a 1st for bieksa. thats not a bad return, if nothing at all we get a good shootout guy and another 1st in a deep 09 draft. the rob davison signing would ease the loss of bieksa's toughness on the back end aswell. davison also played upwards of 20 min a night while he was with the isles last year, though he wont see nearly that with the nucks unless we have the same injury problems as last year.

salo waiving his no trade clause would be a better situation for the canucks though, because despite getting a major raise to 3.75 mil bieksa's contract should be seen as a major bargain considering jeff finger is gettin around the same.

unless it is a long term injury that players and the call up players salary count against the cap...dont think 69,000 is gonna last long when you pay the call up at min 500,000 a year

Hondaracer 07-10-2008 05:23 PM

even though im not a big bieksa fan, i think id rather see Salo moved then him

I lost nearly all respect when i heard a couple different canucks say "Sami is scared of hurting somone with his shot"

.....

putting him on the injured list is a loophole where the injured player salary wont count u can even put healthy players on that list to. plus sending players up and down to manitoba is another loophole.

but i guess ur right to a point.

shawn79 07-10-2008 05:41 PM

can someone tell me what the hype of dimitra?

all i know is he can play wing and center with defensive skills + a injury prone

Cowan's role has already been replaced by Hordichuk hasnt it?

Razor Ramon HG 07-10-2008 05:45 PM

Cowan's going to be waived, simple.

6thGear. 07-10-2008 06:01 PM

funny how everyone didn't want demitra but now everyones stoked since he signed. lol. aw man....i can't wait till the season starts, like i said, its gonna be interesting.

jigga250 07-10-2008 06:03 PM

who will play 4th line with hordichuk and johnson then? Wellwood?

RiceIntegraRS 07-10-2008 06:08 PM

its gonna be probably

Sedin - Sedin - Bernier
Demitra - Sundin - Raymond
Burrows - Kesler - Pyatt
Pettinger - Wellwood - Johnson/Hordichuk

putting Raymond on the 4th line wont help his development, and hes no checker. Putting Pyatt who can put a few pucks in the net doesnt belong on the 4th line.

shawn79 07-10-2008 06:11 PM

HAHAH dimetra hat trick

Harvey Specter 07-10-2008 06:13 PM

Not much of a Sundin fan and I still think $10 mill is too much but I’ll admit our team will look pretty damn good if he signs. Our d-line is stacked, we have Lu between the pipes and we've got rid of the players who I thought were holding this team back offensively. Imo Gillis, as a first year GM, hasn't done too badly.

Hondaracer 07-10-2008 06:14 PM

^ im kinda doubting wellwood will start the season on the 4th line, especially if we sign Sundin

but who knows, if he's in shitty shape he could make one hell of a 4th line player either way

Demitra isnt really injury prone, the injuries he's had in his career have been freak accidents mostly, he doesnt have the nagging injuries like groin, etc.

Razor Ramon HG 07-10-2008 06:26 PM

He had quite a few minor streaks of groin injuries this past season, but I hope a new workout will fix that for him like it did for Gaborik.

6thGear. 07-10-2008 06:31 PM

you sure you want your $10mil guy playing on the second line? if anything, the twins should play second line, that way they don't have to face top pair dmen.
