Well, let's see... he couldn't offer them Florida beaches, sunshine 364 days of the year, less travel in the Eastern Conference...

AX.Deadpool 06-29-2008 04:24 PM

If the price is right for RYDER, i wouldnt mind him being in a canuck uni.
He's averages 52 points per season, not bad.
VRBATA, is also another 50 points per player, if he's healthy.(i think phoenix will make a good pitch to him though)

But still, we need that PURE goal scorer, and we have 2 off Seasons (including this one) to do it...

Maybe, invest the money in a good player, and acquire the other pieces
to the puzzle, with trades. Defense for young cheap offense.

That's exactly what i was getting it.
I think the surge in salaries started when JOVO got signed for 6.5 mil; not to see hes not "good" but is he 6.5mil good? I dont think so...

tonyzoomzoom 06-29-2008 04:41 PM

I think Gillis is about to find out the GM position is not as simple as it seems and why Nonis couldn't make deals in the past

6thGear. 06-29-2008 04:50 PM

how does a team get rights to talk to a soon to be UFA? i thought you can't talk contracts with a player till july 1st? or are those rights aquired through previous trades?

Rights are acquired through trades.

Free agency beings, JULY 1st.

and, "Ryan Malone has agreed to a seven year, $31.5 million contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning." - TSN

KenM 06-29-2008 07:06 PM

damnit i was hoping sportsnet was talking out of their asses

winson604 06-29-2008 07:57 PM

The Edmonton Oilers have acquired defenceman Lubomir Visnovsky from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for forward Jarret Stoll and defenceman Matt Greene

interesting lol. They also took on Lubo's 5 year 28 million contract extension he signed last year

JesseBlue 06-29-2008 09:02 PM

i'm getting kinda frustrated at whats happening...which is nothing...

as for the wce coming back..i'm all for that...it will be on AV's system because i think that should be one of the changes he will instill next season (thats why he got an extension rather being fired)

The important thing is - the player we want - hasn't signed anywhere as of yet.

It also sets a natural limit as well, though. If good players such as Crosby and Ovechkin are only ("only"... sigh) $8million per year, it will make GM's think twice about signing an average player who's asking $7million per year. A lot of GM's will wonder why they'd be paying so much for an average player when there's great players around for just a little bit more.

Well, okay...in theory and principle it works... :p

No such limit in practice.

Remember, UFAs tend to get bid up by GMs who have excess cap room.. even more with desperate GMs. RFAs don't have that sort of leverage. If those two were UFAs, watch out.

Having said that, can anyone name me a big money UFA signing who's been worth the money? I can't think of one off the top of my head.

Brendan Shanahan when he originally went to the Rangers after the lockout and Rafalski to the wings last year are the only two I can think of. There hasn't been a lot that's for sure.

we should of offered him vancouver sluts

Harvey Specter 06-30-2008 12:08 AM

Rolston is a good pick up and a prefect player for an Eastern conf. team.

Razor Ramon HG 06-30-2008 12:11 AM

I wanted Malone :(

stuff99 06-30-2008 12:29 AM

Typical Canucks luck. We have money now and nobody to spend it on. I hope we tank this season so we can get on the the Taveres sweepstakes.

Tampa sucked so much they had a Cup and 2 #1 1st overall picks. This hurts.

flawless 06-30-2008 12:34 AM

Hahah overpayment for Ryan Malone

6thGear. 06-30-2008 12:45 AM

nice typo..lol

The 25-year-old Flint, Michigan native has 12 NHL seasons under his belt with stints in New Jersey, Colorado, Boston and Minnesota.

hi5-ive 06-30-2008 12:52 AM

at for sec, i thought he was really 25 but 12 NHL SEASONS.......hahahah

wow.. Tampa's going for it..

Wouldnt be suprised if they Get the RAYZOR, Emery.. if they do, they would have a decent goaltender which upgrades there whole defense.

Cant think of any other decent goalies on the market...

But, i think we can assume, all these signins would be short term.. no idea how they can keep everyone, considering Malone is going to get paid 8 and 7 mil for next 2 seasons and 3.33 aftewards.

Dude...Florida chicks > vancouver chicks

Ronin 06-30-2008 02:51 AM

If Tampa signs a real defenseman or two and Mike Smith turns out to be awesome, they'd be a realistic contender to at least win a round or two in the playoffs. Lecavalier + St. Louis + Prospal + Stamkos + Malone + Rolston...not a bad lineup. Not quite Detroit or Pittsburgh but a very decent lineup there.

Well, they're not longer a joke.
