i think this is good pick up for canucks.

411ken 06-25-2008 12:07 PM

I agree, I like this pick up for the Canucks as well. He is still young so hopefully he turns it around,

raygunpk 06-25-2008 12:19 PM

He has really good hands, but lazy and injury prone. Hopefully he will stop slacking off here!

winson604 06-25-2008 12:36 PM

Wellwood is a decent pickup if he gets off his lazy ass and stays in shape. Otherwise it will just be another one of our 1 million per year investments that goes no where. Of course this is slightly different. This guy has more potential then lets say the Marc Chouinard or Bulis experiment. But considering our situation rite now and the price of this guy I don't mind it so much.

The Linden tribute is on the Canuck's TV multimeda section of CDC.

I downloaded it using Orbit and watched it, great video.

shawn79 06-25-2008 12:44 PM

whats next stumpel to canucks?

suprasian 06-25-2008 01:41 PM

well i read in the province that alex auld!!! might be coming back to vancouver to back up luongo as the canucks havent offered sandford a new contract. alex played awesome last year in boston and i think alain would be comfortable enough to let alex play 15-20 games so bobby lu doesnt gas out like he did last year. and wellwood was a good pick up. he's injury prone but has potential. 2 years ago i think he had 42 points in 50 games or something like that so the talent is there. and i think he's gonna be motivated to get back into shape to show up th leafs!!!

Tenacious J 06-25-2008 01:48 PM

Like I've said before, Maple Leafs West.

b0unce. [?] 06-25-2008 02:20 PM

eh i thought auldy was pretty decent, if he'd sign for cheap let him back up bobby.
as for wellwood. def a good pick up if he gets back into shape for upcoming season. a bit a gut considering he plays professional sports.

It's tough to speculate on Wellwood. He's got talent but he's lazy and injury prone. Can't blame him for being out of shape when his leg is broken though...difficult to work out when you can barely move...although at the same time, he looks like he REALLY let himself go...

That's the problem with Wellwood, he's out of shape all year round injury or no injury, he just doesn't like to workout. He was asked by a reporter once why he doesn't keep in shape, his response, "Gretzky never lifted weights". Difference was that Gretzky had far more talent and at least trained cardio. That to me just shows a lack of dedication, I hope being waived by TO wakes him up and he changes his ways.

wellwood has cronic hernia injuries and broke his foot 4 months ago in a non-hockey accident. lets see if he ACTUALLY sticks to his word and works hard here. i posted earlier about canucks passing on a bchl player to pick up suave. his name is zalc dalpe.

Tim Budong 06-25-2008 06:51 PM

sanford woulda played more if the team didnt lose soo much during the beginning of the regular season

i hve every right to believe the story in the province is just something to plug front page sports

Hondaracer 06-25-2008 09:08 PM

mm..im undecided on wellwood, with the canucks it could be a reclamation project..but if he doesnt hit the gym and get determined to be in good shape, then why the fuck would we even want to keep him around? It could be a good move because it's cheap but it could also blow up and become a problem

either way i think he will be a decent morrison replacement, he has more upsides, is younger, supposidly a better passer, and a better face off percentage

but i guess we'll have to wait to see

and wtf is going on with Kesler? i really think we need to move him up into a bigger role within the team

mako 06-25-2008 09:29 PM

isn't claiming Wellwood off waivers basically like grabbing a free player?

it is for us because he is an RFA so he has no price attached to him at the moment

Hondaracer 06-25-2008 09:37 PM

^ once you claim him to keep his rights you need to "qualify" the offer or somthing, which consists of adding X amount of dollars onto the contract, in this case i think he was getting paied 950,000 last year, in order to qualify the Canucks had to add 50,000 onto the deal, half of which is already picked up by the leafs?

thats as much as i can explain, i think its somthing like that too lazy to search

6thGear. 06-25-2008 09:54 PM

wellwoods NHL career stats. 189g 31g 77a 108p 14pim. good thing is, he hasn't taken a single penalty in the last 2 seasons.

yeah, doesn't matter who the backup is. If canucks are doing poorly in the standings, AV has no choice but to play Luongo for the best chance of winning games.

Wow, no penalties in 2 seasons? How many games did he play during the two seasons? Either he's a very clean player or he's just lazy and doesn't have any aggression to battle for the puck. Which one is it D:

59 & 48 games played. But the question is, was he getting quality ice time, or was he getting garbage playing minutes?

AzNightmare 06-26-2008 12:44 PM

107 games played, and no penalties at all.
I don't really follow nhl player statistics, but is this a normal thing or should
most players at least have some penalties here and there?

I'm fairly sure he was the second line center and he also got power play time as well so decent minutes.

ChaKo 06-26-2008 01:31 PM

his point totals were pretty decent (relative to the rest of the canucks at least). so he either managed to produce with minimal ice time or was able to do the same and stay clean with more ice time. win/win! ..if only it were that simple..
