I can name quite a few actually :).

^ Right here. :)

It was smart for creating the RPM line and putting burrows to play with the Sedins.
Even more smart to stick with those lines and let it develop success and not juggle them like a clown.

Maybe he is a really awesome coach afterall? I wouldn't know for sure. But as long as the players that are on fire, like Kes and Burrows, are putting the puck in the net.
Even Luongo letting in weak goals during his slump wouldn't of screwed the Canucks that bad.

Did anyone listen to the anahiem/phoenix game shootout?

3rd shooter Getzlaf scores to take the lead and shane doan needs to score to tie it which he does. Selanne misses and Tikhonov has a chance to end it. He goes in he shoots and all you here is, "He shoots he, he, is it in? Is it in? did the puck cross the goal line? IT
IS IN! GOAL! Coyotes win it!" It seemed like 5 seconds from when he shoots to where you find out if it was actually a goal.

Had some buddies over we cheered so loud, really didn't want to play the Ducks 1st round.

I'm one of them. I knew this would happen that he would become a "great" coach all of a sudden..haha..don't tell me u never wanted him gone? or u were just one of those ppl that sucks on him through out the season..

it's all good though. I hope we do very well in the playoffs but if we don't, do you still want to see him back? cuz as good as the NW title is,it doesn't mean jack shit if we don't proceed closer to the finals and we need coach/players to win us the stanley cup and not another northwest title.

just my thought.

Soundy 04-12-2009 09:37 AM

^Okay then, what would have happened if they HAD turfed him in January? Chances are, new coach = turmoil = missed playoffs. One bad month out of an otherwise pretty solid season is hardly reason to blow things up like that.

CRS 04-12-2009 09:43 AM

I think I just found out a new definition of a bandwagoner.

look at the pens, the rangers, and the even the senators record since firing their coach

you never know what would have happened....

Still tho, in the end it all worked out so it doesn't matter if people wanted
him gone or not

punkwax 04-12-2009 10:02 AM

Firing AV would have been a knee jerk reaction and a big mistake. Good for Gillis.

End of story.

MG1 04-12-2009 11:16 AM

I never lost faith in Gillis, AV, or the team. Never have (on the team) in 35 plus years of rooting for them. Real fans don't give up when things go downhill. You continue to support the team and cheer them on. I remember going to the Superskills and the Open Practice. People who attended those events were true fans. Win or lose you support your home town team. The word fan comes from "Fanatic".

What a season it was, though. Everything from now on is gravy. I cannot wait for our team to step it up another notch or two in the playoffs. Bring it on!

Harvey Specter 04-12-2009 11:56 AM

Lets go Avs!!!!!!

Exactly..someone calling out ppl who wanted AV gone are the tools... I bet if we didn't make the playoffs that all these ppl would say "why didn't they fire AV.. bla bla..

and CRS, care to share that definition?

civicyvr 04-12-2009 12:02 PM

So every time a team loses their best player due to injury and the team slumps we should fire the coach? And who would you have replaced AV with? Lots of noise out there.

Go Canucks Go!!!!!!

Durrann1984 04-12-2009 12:12 PM

Thats cuz AV was blamed for line juggling too much
and that brought him to his senses that it was a good idea to be persistent with the lines

if he continued to juggle... i think his ass would realli be on the line

Yes, I'm sure his decision to stick with his current lines was based ENTIRELY on fan reaction and had nothing to do with those lines starting to click together..

And if he HAD picked set lines at the beginning of the season and just stuck with them even if they weren't working, then everyone would be screaming for him to mix it up and try some different combinations and find something that did work...:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

411ken 04-12-2009 12:18 PM

I'm not trying to start a debate here..i'm sure there were ppl who wanted him gone and wanted him to stay.. of course the ppl who wanted him to stay will all of a sudden become "smart" of choosing him to stay because we're in the playoffs. lol... sure we lost luongo but we still had a pretty good team... we missed the playoffs last year and it looked like we were going to miss it again.. what u want ppl to say? AV for coach of the year?

AV is the last person i'd like to be talking about right now. so I'd drop this topic now lol. just bring on the playoffs

Sorry to break it to you but we didn't make the playoffs last year because our defense was devastated with injury. It was like us losing Luongo during the month of January. Except last year, we lost pretty much our entire defense.

haha well no i meant when the lines started clicking he stuck with it.. instead of juggling the lines a million times within a game..
it wasnt the FANS reactions even the PLAYERS themselves didnt like the constant changing of lines.

and thats the thing in the beginning of season he did mix things up..every shift within a game he did that... way too often
he didnt let any line create chemistry and thats why canucks were doing avg at best

RiceIntegraRS 04-12-2009 12:29 PM

I was reading up on the blues forum and the fans want the Nucks in the first round....... but it aint by a landslide as u may think. Most of them want San Jose cause they want revenge from when they got knocked out by SJ in the 2000 season when STL won the Presidents Trophy

trancehead 04-12-2009 12:30 PM

you guys shouldnt be surprised AV kept juggling the lines when they werent providing consistent scoring

people were even bitching about seperating burrows and kesler. look how well that turned out.

Oh I didn't know that. Thanks for the breaking news. What would you do if we still didn't make the playoffs this year? make another excuse for injuries for him?

This is a very easy debate to end

Miss Playoffs - Why didn't we fire AV question will be here
Make playoffs- Thank god we didn't fire AV, calling out ppl who wanted him gone will be here

For all you guys that love AV, that's good. Drop this nonsense topic and focus on the playoff run.

I would say that you can't expect a team that loses key players to injury to do well. This year we lost Luongo for a good portion of the season, last year we lost the defense for the entire year. I will only blame the coach when the team is healthy and not performing. But when there are injuries and key ones at that, it certainly isn't the coach's fault if the team doesn't do well. Does he have a part of the blame? Yes. Does he deserve all of it? No.

I agree completely man.. it's a debate afterall.. I just didn't like the call out of ppl that wanted him gone and acting like their the best or something lol.. I think it was a normal response from the fans in vancouver especially losing 11 in a row or something at home.

Do any of you know when the playoff schedule comes out? tonight or tomorrow?
