Can anyone recommend a local artist for portrait or photo realism work? I'm looking to get something similar to the piece below except in black and grey. I'm looking through books and online for the exact pictures that I want to get.

Right now I'm considering getting it done in Las Vegas by Robert Pho, since he only has a three month wait and his work is absolutely amazing. I'm not really concerned about price since the piece will be on me forever.

Where is rain city? If/when I go for another one, I'd like to find Kirk again.

My first tattoo, still a work in progress - hope to add on and cover most of my upper arm. My mom died of cancer, the characters represent her birth date and day she died. Pretty tame compared to the awesome work most of you guys have done, but here it is:

Sorry for your loss. Great memorial tat.

I am contemplating memorial for my Grandma, she died of a stroke.

SkinnyPupp 12-12-2011 07:01 PM

IMO memorial tattoos look better with art rather than gravestone writing.. but that's just my opinion

SkinnyPupp 12-16-2011 07:06 PM

So I'm probably going to get some more work did in February

I have no idea what to get though... time to start brainstorming. Probably another animal or creature

anyone have any recommendations for artists who can actually do chinese characters with brush strokes in everything? Not the generic chinese block letters you see on eveyrone

westopher 12-25-2011 06:06 PM

Appt booked jan 5th for my chest to get started by pat at port side. Then March is start of my ribs by justin ormiston in whistler, and whenever the hell I get 2 days off to get my 2nd half sleeve finished by my friend back in edmonton. Gonna be an expensive few months, but well worth it.:)

As a general rule, they actually tell you not to eat anything within a couple hours before getting your ink done. Some people's nerves and reflexes act up when they're getting their tattoo. So a common one is people vomitting after a few minutes under the needle.

For some reason, I've been told that drinking diet pop during/after your tattoo helps. Something with the aspartame, I guess.

Hope your design isn't anything too big or complex.
Adrenaline's known to be a little sloppy with their work.

I had a word in handwriting done by Funhouse and it came out perfect. Took a bit over an hour, felt sore as fuck after.

I had another one (the same size) done by Adrenaline and it came out all blotchy. Took 45 mins. I didn't feel anything. I could've fallen asleep under the needle, and I barely felt any soreness afterwards. Right then I knew that the ink wasn't as deep as it should've been, and he didn't put as much effort in as the artist from Funhouse.

It's only a small tattoo, so I wasn't too worried. Probably gonna get them all touched up soon anyways.

If you're willing to drive, my friend got a decent sized tattoo done a year or so ago and it looks like it was brushed on, it turned out really well. I can find out the name of the artist if you're interested.

westopher 01-05-2012 09:22 PM

Got the linework on me heart today. All the pieces popping out are little chunks blowing out with light rays shining through. Doesn't really mean anything, just wanted a heart. Stoked on it already. Eventually will find a way to tie it all into my sleeves, but thats a ways away. Going on 22nd for shading, then a few weeks after for colour.
