yes it was, and like i said hes comming over in june, and will stay till all the people i lined up for him is done

so if anyone wants pieces done, let me know..

his price is amazing as he charge by the piece not by hours

my piece was done in a hurry, 3 days 9,8,8 hour sessions
had to get back, will never do that again as its really tiring for me and him.

That would become a big blurry mess as a tattoo

Not sure what you mean by dotwork, but this guy does some really out-there stuff, especially with blacks and 'dots' so maybe he is along the lines you're thinking of

Arlin Ffrench Tattoo Artist - Gastown Tattoo Parlour

One of the more interesting tattooers in van IMO

this is by thomas hooper. some dotwork have no solid lines and consist of only dots of various shades.

Arlin looks great but doesn't seems to specialize in the kind of dotwork/ tribal that i'm looking for. I did find an artist, mikel, that seems to specialize in similiar style just wondering if there are anybody else local that does it.

oh and i think jaemc is talking about watercolor as in like brush stroke style like how asian caligraphy is? if so than i think arlin is a great choice there is some brush stroke tattoos in his portfolio that looks very well done

SkinnyPupp 01-23-2012 03:48 AM

Going to be pretty hard to find another Thomas Hooper... that guy is amazing. I think what you are looking for is a really good tribal artist

SkinnyPupp 01-23-2012 03:51 AM

How about Mikel

custom tattoos by mikel - 4 truths tattoo sangha

Really good tribal, some 'dotwork' in there including this thai style dragon and this pattern. Looks like this one was inspired by Hooper

Looks like what you're looking for :)

I was thinking of maybe getting a Haida style piece some day, and if so I would def hit him up

Yea I've already email him for consultation. I work with him before and love his studio, it has a kind of Buddhist temple feel to it.
Look like he the only guy around here that does this kind of work. Hopefully he will charge by piece not by hour this time around. Dotwork is going to take a looooong time

If you are looking for a painterly style I would recommend Art Godoy who owns funhouse tattoos. He has been tattooing forever and can do some amazing work.

I just got a few more hours done on my ribs Hannya snake piece today
Will post pics in a day or so.
