Awesome. What's next? Not letting students write finals? LOOOOL JK |
I dunno, I think the teachers deserve to be paid more, some are pretty passionate about their job and their teaching and they are teaching a future generation of canadians. Zero mandate from the government was a big mistake, and I know of a few prof's willing to get up and teach elsewhere. Imo bigger pay = more tuition = more classes being offered. |
shows how much the teachers care about their students. to use the students as a bargaining tool is not acceptable in my books. we are not part of their power struggle so why should we be put into this. |

While it may such for some students, blame the government for their zero mandate. |

Hi, I am a new student to the summer semester 2011. Can anyone tell me anything about prof. Cheratra Y. I just had a look on the ratemyprofessors.com ( I dont know this website before my registration) and I am really confused. I took ENG1127 right now and I am thinking of dropping it, but only if I can get offer from waitlisted course, because I have 3courses right now and I need at least 3 to be a fulltime student, I am a international student.....need help please |
^Don't bother taking summer semester. Not enough classes and too many students. Shitty teachers as well. |

Welcome to the school and welcome to RS. Basically you are supposed to look on ratemyprofessors.com in order to have a certain expectation from the teacher. Normally this wouldn't affect you if you don't really care and ready for anything, but if you want a specific type of teacher that accomodates your own leanring style, then that site would also come in handy. Usually the rating are somewhat accurate and you can't take all the comments seriously because every student is different and some just want to make the teacher look bad or better than who they are. 3 courses should be the best workload as a new student and full time as well, so you should have plenty of spare time on your hands. I don't think you should take English 1127 first though if you are a new international student, unless you have past english course experience, but here, I believe the educational system for english is mostly emphasized on the basis of creating writing, creative thinking, and a variety of english literatures. At least that's what I have experieced after finishing my 2 years of english. |

1 exam. 2 to go =) |
thanks for your replies. I do read comments on ratemyprof rather than ratings, and it makes me feel frustarted that over 90% of the comments are negative which you can see here http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/Show...jsp?tid=496121 i did go to New Zealand to study foundation for 1 year and I got 7.5 for IELTS, I am now in HongKong so I didnt take the LPI test, so maybe if I work enough I can get a C or even a B in Eng 1127? I planned to get transfered to UBC BCOM in next year so I must take ENG1127 sooner or later. And I saw 2 waitlist available yesterday so I have dropped the original one already. lets pray for me getting into one of those 2classes. And I need 18 non-commerce,stat electives. Any suggetions for GPA boosters which I will take in the next semester. I am good at Calculus(taken 1174 already), Stat, Physics(first place in the year of my New Zealand study) and Computer maybe(I got a A in computer in a public exam in hk but its mainly about easy computer knowledge and consists a part of C programming which I really hate doing) thank you all:) wish I can have locals as my friends so that I can improve my English. |
If you have the opportunity take ENGL1127 Guy Wilkinson. I got an A in his english class, and there are weekly quizzes but theyre based on whether you read that weeks short stories, and if you get 6/10 you get the mark. doesnt matter if you get perfect. there are no inclass essays just a term paper, midterm and final. though he does give you paragraphs as homework. we just sat in class discussing. hes a really nice teacher and i actually learned something in english for the first time. so look into him |

Ratemyprof is pretty bias, it's probably a bunch of white kids that suck up to the teacher every lecture and write good reports about them when they get good grades. DAM Anyhow, i'm not taking summer semester, it's gonna be long and boring. |

GPA boosters don't come easy in Langara. My GPA boosters were all business courses and the exception BCAP 1200 that only goes to SFU. I can list out some courses I took that was pretty good. Business Law- Oren Breitman. Awesome story teller. It's like he's gramps telling me law cases and I was so sucked into his cases lol. I was interested in law too International business- (teacher varies but I had Gordon soemthing)- easy class as long as you get the basics of business and how international business operates and works OB- Noel genoway- Good class, easy stuff that dealt with HR stuff and basic economics These were all my GPA boosters. |
lol, I booked it to school this morning after an all nighter to write an exam only to find out it was tomorrow. |

The only GPA boosters i have are: BCAP1200 - self explanatory, just learning how to use words, excel, powerpoint, etc. The hardest part was probably excel when you had to remember some of the formulas. BUSM1500 - Business presentation Skills, it was a fun class, learning how to get better at speaking infront of an audience, but it does take hard work and preparation for the presentations. If you're naturally good at speaking, this might be the class for you. This class isn't transferable though. </3 Only gpa boosters i've had so far. Has anyone taken HKIN? I'm thinking of transferring. |
Ya business law with Oren Breitman was a good class...he would just tell u cases off the top of his head |

I remember taking OB with stephen guerrez and my friend took it with some female instructor. For my class the final was cumulative while the other class was just some lame essay. Definitely not a GPA booster for me, lol. |
