Working for SHAW Cable

Hey,

Just wondering if anyone out there works or has worked for Shaw Cable?

What's the job like? Metrics hard to reach? Looking to work for their collections department.

Any info would be appreciated!

Thanks

It's a good place to start, building itself is nice to be working in, if u sit by the window looking out north, you can see the whole north vancouver Management certainly needs improvement, but as long you do your job correctly and not browsing non-work related website on your computer, you will be fine

I've worked in the collections dept. The pay is okay...I think its 16.xx/hr to start and every month theres incentive of approx $400-$500 depending on your performance. Its way easier than sales dept because theres less calls and you get to cut ppl's cable off. Sometimes you need to take sales calls as well when they are super busy but you get commission if you do made the sale. If you are looking to make money I would suggest you go to sales dept because some reps they can make over 4g/month. There are tons of opportunities within the company plus you get a super nice view of the coal harbor.

Overall, Shaw is a great company. They take care of their employees.

Nope, didnt have an interview, but my friend just got hired into billings. I dont want to go into billings cause I'd have to deal with angry customers and kiss their ass every day. I'd rather deal with angry customers and have some leverage on my side lol.

Blukai, how are the metrics? Will they fire you if you cannot collect a certain figure a month?

I think you have it the other way around.

Billing you hold the power since they did not pay the bill whereas CSRs get angry customers that you have to kiss ass to.

Im pretty sure its the other way around.

Billing you have to deal with people who have billing issues. I.E, over charged, want to add/minus features, etc.

Collections you call people up who do not pay their bills, and you tell them to pay..

It doesn't matter which dept you are in because you WILL get the angry cust no matter what. As long as you are taking calls, there will be customers calling in to bitch you out. If you are in sales/billing dept, you can always pass it to other dept but if you get caught doing that, your sup will bring it up on your next coaching session. I had so many reps pass me the call because they couldn't deal with the angry cust.

With collections, you rarely call cust because they will call you. Most calls are pretty easy, all you have to do is just take proper payment arrangement. They will teach you when you get in. Every month you will be given 150 accounts to monitor plus you have to take calls. You will have 2 hours everyday to tackle those accounts. All you have to do is just suspend their cable and i bet you they will call back at the end of the day and you don't even have to cal them.

azzuro32, you WILL NOT get fired no matter what, unless you really fukd up big time. Every month you get a coaching session and your sup will give you a mark based on the calls recorded. This is how they assess your performance pay as well. After couple of months you should be collecting roughly $100K every month. The ppl there are super nice, they will give you pointers if you dont know how to handle angry cust.

If they call you back for the collections dept, be prepared to really know you past work experience because they will ask you some behavioral questions based on you work experience with examples. The interview process is a little bit different than sales/billing dept. They will give you scenarios and you have to analyze and how you would approach the cust in the shortest time possible.
