Just picked up warrior projekt shoulder pads. They are fucking awesome! I'll post pics before the RS hockey night.

Also selling the gear I just picked up (X20 elbows, U+ 05 Shins) for cheap, so I can get matching warrior equipment. Check in misc classifieds if you're interested.

JKam 08-02-2011 10:22 AM

good thing I have a friend who works at sportchek.

Just got Warrior Projekt shoulder pads, shin guards and elbow pads.

These shin guards are HUGE. They're so much bigger than my CCM ones. Not sure if I like them or not.. Pics to come tonight after I get off from work.

easton EQ sticks are marked down big time at hockey shop. right now $149, orig. $269

never liked that stick anyways, too heavy

mickz 08-18-2011 08:05 PM

EQs are crap. It's only a matter of time before the windows with the weights in them fall out. I expected this kind of gimmick from Reebok, not Easton. There's a reason why the pros are still using the SE16.

Go and try them on first and see if you are able to wear Baurer skates. What is your skating level like? Do you plan on playing hockey or just casual skating?

read reviews online and try them on in store. no one can tell you what skate you will "like". a lot has to do with preferences, when proper fitting is established. as a first time ice skate purchaser, you really have nothing to compare to either, so the first pair will almost always be a tester/baseline.

Growing playing hockey I've always been recommended Bauer skates for defensemen, don't know why, something about the angles. Having said that the only skates I've worn have been Bauers, I've tried different skate brands and have always come back to Bauer - most recently the Total Ones. These skates are incredible, but for a first time skate get something cheaper. All the other brands - Reebok/Nike/Graf etc look and feel cheap to me. Person preference though.

BTW, don't worry about what your fav players wears, he is PAID to wear a certain brand. Their skates are custom made to fit.

JKam 08-21-2011 07:58 PM

I just picked up my first skates a couple months ago. I picked CCM's because they fit a little wider and they were more comfortable to me. Bauers seemed to fit a lot tighter and slimmer.

I wouldn't buy any pair without trying it on first to ensure they fit your foot comfortably. If it's your first pair of ice skates, like BlueG2 said, there's not much you can compare it to. Majority of guys I know have switched skates within the first year.

Make sure you get measured and sized up properly and the Sales Associate isn't judging your skate size based on your shoe size alone as the majority of the population aren't wearing the correct sized shoes to begin with. If they fit comfortably then the X3.0 are a decent buy for the beer league/recreational level. Pretty much anything mounted onto Tuuk LS2 holders from factory will be a decent skate.

As for interchangeable runners, skates with LS2 holders should have a plug underneath the heel of the insole for easy access to swap them out. Being a recreational player you'll probably replace the skates before you ever need to replace the steel.

Judging from Reebok's history of OPS it's probably going to be crap. Having Reebok promise the product would be made available at the MSH Summer Jam Skate just to have the Reps pull out just hurt it's reputation even more. I don't know how a company can still make such shitty products in Canada with compression molding when Bauer's sticks are far superior despite being manufactured off-shore and using the less expensive bladder molding method.

!Nhan 08-22-2011 12:04 PM

I've worn bauer roller blades before so I assume that they're not too far off from the ice line either.

Thansk for all other inputs.

6thGear. 08-22-2011 06:13 PM

Just picked up a Warrior Dolo DD OPS. Can't wait to use it!

belka 10-08-2011 11:27 AM

Just a little update on the Bauer Total One Stakes. I've skated on these for the past few weeks and they are now fully broken in. These are worth every penny, they are light as fuck and you don't feel like you are wearing a skate at all. I don't know what it is, but they last a lot longer between sharpenings. They are almost as sharp as the first skate....something new in the blade design?

So overall:

Fit: 10/10 (My foot isn't wide, so I bought an off the shelf skate)
Looks: 9/10
Price: 6/10 (expensive)
Durability: ?/10 (See how long these last)

Very happy with the purchase.

True.True 10-08-2011 03:50 PM

fusion steel. i find they stay sharper for longer as well. im sharpening my apx every 8-9 ice sessions compared to 5-6 ice sessions with traditional steel on my old 9Ks

pharmed 10-08-2011 07:31 PM

Switched from Bauer X:60 to RBK 11k skates this year. :fullofwin: My feet love being pampered in lush comfort. Blade wear is much better than I'd expected too; 6 games before the first sharpening.

TjAlmeida 10-10-2011 02:03 PM

Just picked up RBK 7K goalie skates. Fit my foot nice and were a big upgrade over my old school ccm's.
Currently in RBK 7k pads, glove and 6k blocker. They are great for entry level but the glove is falling apart like no tmrw and the blocker is in ok shape.
The pads I use have buckles, I prefer leather straps. All black and white.
Cant complain I picked the three up used for 300 bucks but time to upgrade.

Looking at used Bauer one75 pads, blocker and glove, review to follow after first use this coming sat!

Time for another RS hockey night.
