screw clubbing
and what else sucks is the music

DJ's play some whacked out music that u cant even bump ur head to

Inaii 04-11-2009 10:39 PM

This is why I go to Celebs if I feel like clubbing. No douchebags, cheap cover (well for me anyway), decent priced drinks and good music. Plus the go-go dancers are hot. Oh and a great atmosphere. Too bad most of Vancouver is homophobic.

Well neither was the case, so what other excuse can you come up with?

CivicBlues 04-11-2009 11:10 PM

anyone else notice the SAME FUCKING MUSIC is playing all the time at most clubs for the past DECADE?

I haven't gone regularly since 2001/02, I recently went and the same music from 8 years ago is still playing. Same stupid hip-pop and top40 crap you can't even shake a fist at.

Waiting in line for 30-40 minutes or being forced to pay a bouncer to get in - and then another $20 for cover is unheard of in the clubs in Toronto and Montreal. I understand when they are actually at full capacity, but most of the time its empty inside. And lastly, you're treated like crap - unless you plan on getting bottle service.

Imagine how club owners would react if they were completely boycotted for 2 weekends. They'd be forced to cut the crap. When 2010 comes around, its going to be worse than ever - there will definitely be a bunch of confused tourists wondering how to get in.

Hasn't it been like that since before?! I remember clubs like that when I still went and I haven't gone to one since '04. I believe they make you queue up so they could build up a hype to that particular club. So then it makes people who drive by think that that place is the shit 'cause a lot of people are trying to get in.

J____ 04-11-2009 11:22 PM

i loved clubbing in NYC and paris. i dont even bother with vancouver. it's depressing, like most of you said, line ups and gangster wannabe's makes it a miserable experience i can spend elsewhere.

underscore 04-11-2009 11:23 PM

man sounds like you guys have some brutal clubs down there.

Tuesday nights are actually really fun.. I have noticed its getting overrun with gangsters lately though..

People can say what they want about Mirage but really I like it better then clubs downtown.
Sometimes it does take a while to get in but cover is only like $10.. drinks are usually under $3 for a highball.. the music is the same shit you would hear downtown anyways... and for the most part the crowd is more attractive...
For me its also convenient that its only a 5 minute cab ride from home.. I also know some of the staff there so I dont pay cover and I usually end up getting a couple free drinks..
The other funny thing is if I tell the bartender I know that I drove he only serves me a couple of drinks and then just starts giving me straight tonic (I usually drink Gin and Tonic)

Culture_Vulture 04-12-2009 12:54 AM

You know it's funny because I've been hitting the clubs quite often these days,
and I never thought of this.

All I knew is that every time I went, it got less and less appealing to me.

Very insightful.

keifun 04-12-2009 01:03 AM

I grew out of the whole clubbin phase a while ago.

I think as you grow older, the less appealing clubbing appears to you. Plus having to deal with the younger gangster wannabes there just makes it worse.

WingHang 04-12-2009 03:17 AM

if u want to get into a club with no line. get there early

SkinnyPupp 04-12-2009 03:56 AM

Just don't go. There are many things that are more interesting and fun than "clubbing"

BlackV62K2 04-12-2009 04:30 AM

One thing you can do is go early, get a stamp and leave. Go grab drinks elsewhere or a bite to eat, then come back when it's more "bumping". It's better than standing in line later on.

We've been doing that and lately and it's not too bad. By the time we get back to the club, there's usually a pretty long line and you'll be glad you can just walk right in. But I agree that the Van clubs are just ridiculous when it comes to everything mentioned in this thread (line-up, cover, and drink prices).

Some clubs don't have in/out but I agree with this idea.

LOL yup. Most of these clubs play the same shit you hear on the Beat 94.5 all fucking day long. How fresh.

Here's an example of a real club, in a so called "developing" country, and I don't think we have anything here that matches it

^ mmmmmm those girls are fineeeeeee and the ratio looks very inflated =D

anyways, all those reasons mentioned is why i dont party with asians any more, i learned that lesson in highschool

Ax2-Y 04-12-2009 08:09 AM

im going to back pack europe for a couple months with my girl this summer.. i'll report back on the club scene over there for ya... :)

3seriesBeeM 04-12-2009 08:31 AM

ya club scene here sucks im not even old and it still has lost all its appeal to me. Drinks are overpriced, line ups are way to long even though the club isnt at capacity, and the music sucks. The only time ill go to a club is on a close friends birthday. there are lots of other things that I can think of that is way more fun than clubbing.

It's always been like that. I've been going to clubs since, oh, 1987 I guess. Always been that way, always will be.

.Renn.Sport 04-12-2009 08:48 AM

clubbing in HK and Taiwan FTW!!!
