Vancouver club scene... what can be done about it? Its gotten so bad here in this city, apparently this town thinks its vegas - or at least it would seem that way with the lineups at every club on the weekend. Waiting in line for 30-40 minutes or being forced to pay a bouncer to get in - and then another $20 for cover is unheard of in the clubs in Toronto and Montreal. I understand when they are actually at full capacity, but most of the time its empty inside. And lastly, you're treated like crap - unless you plan on getting bottle service. Imagine how club owners would react if they were completely boycotted for 2 weekends. They'd be forced to cut the crap. When 2010 comes around, its going to be worse than ever - there will definitely be a bunch of confused tourists wondering how to get in. |
I agree wholeheartedly. As a result of how clubs are run, I've decided to just stop going. Not worth the hassle. Kev |
You just realize this now? This BS has been going on for years. I had easier time to get into clubs in Vegas than here lol. LMAO @ guestlist here too. The "guestlist" line is just as long as the normal one. |
Great idea, now how do we reach the 99.9999999999% of potential clubbers who don't read this thread. Hmm, if only there was some way someone could "promote" this "event" to this "Club Boycott 2k9!!!" |
when i used to live in winnipeg. cover were 5 bucks |
two options.... dont go out to the BS clubs anymore or move to a bigger city with night life. |
clubs are stupid... i open my basement .. turn off the light serve some beer.. turn up some trance music and tell my grandpa to stand at the door to let ppl in i'll only charge u 3 dollar |

Im tired of Vancouver Club Scene. Worst City to club. -Overprice DJ tickets / concerts / raves. -Stuck up girls who cant even say "not interested"...just a cold shoulder and looks away. -Lineups to make the club look like it's bumpin and for bouncers to make grease money. -Small Clubs with no theme. Plush/Gossip is the biggest...LOL...Guvernment nightclub in Toronto is 20x bigger with 6 differrent rooms playing all genre of music. |
ohh man clubs are so fucked up now, they only let girls in also now, that is so FUCKING bullshit, guys are the ones who fucking pay for all the drinks for the chicks well most of guys so the bars can stay afloat, like a while back we went and we were on the guess list and the bouncer was like just chicks right now LIKE WTF, that is brutal. That is why never go anymore and the fact its a fucking scam. I'm thinking about setting a couple on fire when no one is in them ,if anyone wants in just send me PM. |
Pure waste of time and money as it has always been here |
yeah, lineups are way too long especially now it's the easter long weekend. i remember i went out for a smoke at fabric and the 'stamp' line took like 30 mins to get back in, that's just bullshit |
I too, agree that it is getting out of hand. waiting in line to get into an empty club just so i can pay $6.75 for a beer is not my idea of a good time anymore. a few other gripes about going out downtown.. - $5 coat check? i remember the good old days when it was by donation. now you are expected to both pay for and tip the coat check girl. - ordering a double and getting charged for two singles = $10+ drinks (i'm looking at you ceilis, you cheap bastards.) - getting 6 dollars back in change all in coins just so i can tip you. Club owners will continue to push prices to their limits since we are all still going out and spending the money. |
Just stop going!!! You will save yourself lots of $$!! You will thank me!! |
vancouver is pretty ridiculous when it comes to this, yeah. all these clubs think they're in new york or some shit when we're not even close to being a party city. i also just can't stand being in the same place as the wannabe gangsta 19 year olds looking to prove something with their buddies. anyone know of more mature places to hang out? |
You guys should review each club on their homepage, or clubzone has a review section for each club. http://www.clubzone.com/c/Vancouver/...nge_Show.html#. I work in the industry and I know that owners take these ratings seriously. I think if enough people spoke up where its accessible to the owners, they will look into it. Like many of you said, the only other option is to stop going! First it was the VPD haters, cuz they banned CA,Ed Hardy, etc.. Now its the owners for jacking up prices... Vancouver is just full of haters... |
Went to Bar None last nite, at 11. There was no lineup, but the fucken bouncers still had us wait to get in for 15 minutes! And the place was empty inside. What a joke. The night life in Vancouver is pathetic due to a lot of different reasons, from clubs being over-priced and offering shit service, to the city making the clubs close at 3 AM and other stupid policies, to pretentious wannabes that go to clubs to grandstand and look hardcore. Go to clubs anywhere else, you'll find people who are there to actually have fun. |

edit: but then again, normally there's a lineup because toronto clubs are filled lol. |
if you had to wait to get in with no line either its capacity or cops are inside the club. blame the cops for a shitty nightlife and blame your fucking selves for the shitty nightlife. |
blame fucking idiots suing the clubs too. i have a long list of why the patrons are the problems and not the owners. |
Go to the Cobalt. Cheap cover, no lineups, great bands (yeah, real bands, not canned thump-thump machine bullshit). |
I haven't gone in a looooong time but went to gossip the other day for my friend's bday and the wait was about 40 mins long, huge ass line up outside, and as usual when we got in, the place wasn't close to half full. Safe to say I won't be going back. |
