AV sitting Raycroft and starting Schneider tonight.

Raycroft has been awesome so far and sits him while we're on a 3 game winning streak.

He's just resting Raycroft since they're back to back games.

Well, it is the second of a back-to-back game series... But yeah it doesn't make much sense, considering Raycroft's been playing well.

Ya that one caught me a little off guard too. Obviously you want to give yourself the best chance to win every game right. But maybe AV is thinking that it's the 6th game in only 9 nights. They're due for a stinker.

Or, they are due for a stinker and Gillis doesn't want to see Raycroft look bad in front of a tired Canucks team and wants Raycrofts value to stay up so he can trade him to a team where goaltending is not getting it done...

Just a thought.

wtf?? seriously ?

I dont care how good Schneider people think he is but still dont change the fact he sucked at NHL...

i really dont wanna see him cost us a game

Harvey Specter 11-06-2009 01:12 PM

I would have loved to see Rayycroft start tonight but it's a back to back game so it was a move AV had to make.

silk 11-06-2009 01:14 PM

Luongo plays back to back game like there is no tomorrow

He's not Luongo. I think AV remembers the last time we played him back to back...

Either that or Lu is will be out longer than we think and we are resting Raycroft for the next 3 road games.

Hondaracer 11-06-2009 01:41 PM

^ I'd say that is a probable scenario because why else wouldn't you play him, they have 4 days off after tonight

Corey will be on a tight leash tonight. Its a good call by av
Cause we don't want to burn raycroft out and corey does need
The ice time.

Are you fucking kidding me?

The team led by the W estcoast Express was one of the best scoring teams of the past decade. Why did we fail so badly? Because our defense was merely decent and DAN CLOUTIER IS GODDAMN TERRIBLE.

Sure, he won 30 games a season but ANY NHL level goalie could've won 30 games behind a team like that.

If you think anyone is winning the Cup without good goaltending, all we have to do is point to the earlier part of the 21st century. Offense sells tickets. Defense wins championships.

You know nothing about hockey so be quiet and go sit in the corner.

I want to see him win so we can trade him for something.

to me, with Luongo at 6 million there is no grey area anymore wether he is overrated or not, imo the price tag he brings is the best value amongst goaltenders who can get you the most wins/more valuable to a team, lets have a look at other goalies:

the first year is the current year, and any years after are the new contract/additional years of a contract:

Brodeur, Martin - 5.200 5.200 5.200 5.200 5.200

Ward, Cam - 3.500 5.000 6.300 6.400 6.600

Lundqvist, Henrik - 7.750 6.875 7.750 6.875 6.875 5.125

Kiprusoff, Miikka - 8.500 7.000 7.000 6.000 5.000 1.500

Miller, Ryan - 6.250 6.250 6.250 6.250 6.250

Giguere, Jean-Sebastien - 5.500 5.500 6.000 7.000

Huet, Cristobal - 5.625 5.625 5.625 5.625

Do I need to go on? i could probably post 5-8 more teams that have goalies not half as good as Luongo at 3/4+ of his contract

So how exactly is he "overrated"? by the fans? because a few people expect him to lead the team to a cup on his back and when factors outside of his control get in the way of that goal?

if we were to "trade luongo for a bonafied goal scorer" who could get we with 6 million? a 32 goal scorer?

Malone, Ryan - 6.000 6.000 6.000 5.500 3.000 2.500

Horcoff, Shawn - 7.000 6.500 6.500 6.000 4.000

Richards, Brad - 7.800 7.800 7.800 7.800

Hossa, Marian - 7.900 7.900 7.900 7.900 7.900

So add a few million more and pick up Hossa and he'll get us to the cup right?

And the last time he started back-to-backs, he got ventilated in the second game (Anaheim), so... yeah.

Raycroft is not Luongo. He's played well this year, but c'mon. If we didn't have Lu and Raycroft sucked in playoffs I'd like to hear everyone's tune then.

It's too easy to remember Lu playing poorly in the playoffs, but I don't see any lack of LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU when he's playing well. The guy was basically a one man team vs. Dallas a few years ago and we (and every other hockey fan across North America ) were all saying we'd be done without him.

Armchair GMs FTL.

I don't think it's a question of right or wrong. It's a question of preference; whether one prefers, to have a good team in front a decent goalie, or a good goalie in front of a decent team.

Brodeur has proven that the latter works; Detroit & Pittsburgh has proven the former works just as well.

My personal preference lies with the latter because with the former, once your goalie goes down, that's losing your team's most integral player and you're left gambling on your $500,000 backups to carry the team.

With teams who have their depth in front of their goalie like PIT, WSH, CHI, DET however, are great examples of teams that despite losing their starplayers, still continue to be the same team regardless.

But then again, having the ideal situation of having the depth up-front rather down-back is just my personal preference. However, people need to stop throwing out, "idiot, moron, stupid" comments thinking like there's only 1 way to the cup. That mentality is just as stupid and moronic than the comments they criticize.

Turco's gotta take up the slack for nuttiness now that Eddie Belfour is retired.
