Was just listening to Team 1040 and it has been confirmed that the Mike Gillis has expressed interest in Peter Forsberg.

For the second straight season, the Vancouver Canucks could be in a position to add a former Swedish all-star to their lineup.

General Manager Mike Gillis told the TEAM 1040 he is pursuing free agent Peter Forsberg who has openly expressed interest in returning to the NHL and suiting up for Team Sweden at the Olympics next February.

Listen: Tommy and Blake Price on Forsberg.mp3 http://team1040.ca/contentfiles2/Tom...20Forsberg.mp3

A Canucks official confirmed the team has scouts at the Karjala Cup, a Swedish tournament that Forsberg is playing in. Forsberg denied reports he was set to join Bars Kazan of the KHL and says he will not make a decision on his future until after the tournament.

Forsberg had 14 points (1-13) in a nine game stint with Colorado two seasons ago, before suffering yet another foot injury.

invader 11-05-2009 08:55 PM

Hey , Whats this Peter Forsberg talk about?

http://team1040.ca/news/story/?id=2572

Harvey Specter 11-05-2009 08:56 PM

You guys have to admit one thing tho, the Wild have one awfully boring team. They have no offensive talent whatsoever. I really feel bad fo the fans who have to watch them play every night.

Harvey Specter 11-05-2009 08:58 PM

LOL, you guys posted exactly at the same time. I wish we don't go after Peter Forsberg, he's way past his prime and will make little to no impact if he returns to the NHL. And seriously Gillis should have learned his lesson with Sundin but I guess he hasn't. I think right now he should be more focused on unloading Schneider before his value is next to nothing.

4chinit 11-05-2009 09:21 PM

Schneider's value is never gonna be nothing, just gonna lose him for nothing. And Gillis is a very capable man able to focus on more than one transaction.

But...Forsberg is....who knows....WHO knows....

Noir 11-05-2009 09:25 PM

^^^ Not sure how that's going to happen.

Unlike Sundin, he doesn't have $20m to throw around anymore. Its rumoured he made a play for Gaborik. If he couldn't outbid NYR's $7.5m per year, I don't see how he'll outbid 29 other teams that may be vying for Foppa.

But then again, I'm not the most well versed on the business side of hockey so there might be an angle I'm missing.

!Nhan 11-05-2009 09:29 PM

I heard that if a player who is under contract and misses the whole season, there's no salary cap hit. So if that's true, wouldn't that mean we would have 4 million of cap space available?

True!

But we were technically over cap if we had dressed all the players. But due to injuries, we were able to sneak under the cap. If Demitra comes back before the season ends, we'll be pretty f-ed for the cap.

So right now, I think we have a little bit of cap but not much.

http://www.hockeybuzz.com/cap-central/team.php?team=VAN

hahaha we would be over 5 mill in cap if we dressed all players.

No problem, only about 4588 more sleeps until Lu's contract expires.

Exactly!

The Canucks are playing a style right now that is not entertaining, but is getting the job done!

When Dank and Bernier come back they will not play as defensive. Not going to make a bangwagon comment, but people can't have a short term memory. Raycroft is playing awesome right now, but sustaining it? It won't be asked of him. When Lu is ready to come back he will start playing.

Well I just hope when Daniel comes back, we don't just remove our defense and go back to the old offensive style which was below .500. We're winning games now, and as entertaining as offense is, I would rather have a winning Canuck team. If they play offensively, that's good! I would rather them play like that too, as long as they are still pulling in wins by doing so.

I don't think his skill is past his prime. He still can get points. It's more like he'll only be available for a few games. He will take the "Glass Man" award away from Salo... But he's probably gonna be too expesnive anyway... so I'm thinking no...

And to be fair, Sundin wasn't THAT bad. Sure he wasn't a point/game player anymore, but he was 8pts in 8games in the playoffs. And if it was only money we lost, that would be worth it. I'm just glad Sundin took the 1 year offer instead of two.

this is what i've been saying forever. Lu is over rated. Yes all you "hardcore" canucks fans can jump on my ass about this now. I love the nucks but we need more offensive players that can put the puck in the net like sammuelson.

punkwax 11-06-2009 07:15 AM

People are hilarious.

Raycroft is not Luongo. He's played well this year, but c'mon. If we didn't have Lu and Raycroft sucked in playoffs I'd like to hear everyone's tune then.

It's too easy to remember Lu playing poorly in the playoffs, but I don't see any lack of LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU when he's playing well. The guy was basically a one man team vs. Dallas a few years ago and we (and every other hockey fan across North America ) were all saying we'd be done without him.

68style 11-06-2009 07:50 AM

You guys are kidding yourselves thinking Raycroft is an adequate replacement for Luongo... last night when Raycroft kicked those 2 easy rebounds straight on to Brodziak's stick... that is the norm for Raycroft and brings back memories of Felix Potvin... everything else he has done is gravy but it won't last.

Tapioca 11-06-2009 07:51 AM

I like Raycroft as he genuinely seems like a "team-first" guy, but I think his days as a number 1 goalie are over. He's probably at his best when limited to 30 games or less a year. His small size and weak glove hand will always limit his effectiveness.

I actually don't mind Gillis going after Foppa. You could argue that Forsberg was a better player than Sundin, but his style of play took a toll on his body over the years. Sundin may have been more of a 'leader', but Forsberg always got it done in the playoffs during those years in Colorado. He played 9 games and got 14 points a couple of years ago, so he may still have some gas left in the tank.

I'm not a Luongo haters, but Raycroft is doing just fine :haha: :haha: but he is too small for a Goalie..... reminds me of Sanford

silk 11-06-2009 08:04 AM

i am really looking forward to see when everyone return from injury and back to the line up.

Money isn't always the deciding factor.

Sure, 29 teams may want Forsberg, but he might only want to play for 2 or 3. Last year (or the year before?), it was COL or PHI - I think he wanted to play with Sakic perhaps? As an example of a player's appeal, you could argue that Sakic was instrumental in getting Ryan Smyth to sign with COL. Now that Sakic's gone/retired, Smyth signed elsewhere!

Vancouver could be one of Forsberg's targets now, and with 2010 right around the corner, that could be a valuable bargaining chip.

Please oh please tell me who will win us more games in the entire league for 6 million, I dare you same goes for anyone who thinks the money could be spent elsewhere, you idiots clearly don't understand the most basic of stats, when a goalie wins 30+ games in a season with numerous shutouts, that is the equivelent to a 100 point player, players like lecavlier, briere, etc get paid wayyyy more than luongo and you actually think they will provide you more wins than Luongo?

Or maybe we should just stack up on half-ass players and hope they pan out with that money?

Uhg..

Forsberg would be interesting but I would have to disagree with you jah in terms of MG "learning his lesson from sundin" IMO that was one hell of a mce wether he lived up to expectations or not because it's all about the intangibles players like that bring, we have plenty of cap space and the only real way to make an impact move is via a trade, but value for all trade bait is low right now so picking up a FA such as forsberg is the smartest/safest move because..just like how people didn't understand with sundin..

YOUR NOT GIVING UP -ANYTHING- TO GET HIM

Foopa is going to come..play half of whats left of the season.preferbly play 3 games get hurt, come back play 10..
then destroy teams in the playoffs
yes
he is worth signing. Foopa is scary..point per game on one ankle...imagine healthy!

Yah, cause Vancouver has never had a goalie problem before Luongo:rolleyes:. We've always had "decent" goalies and players who could score in front of them right?? The Raycorfts of the world are just quick fixes and eventually don't pan out. Luongo will give you a better chance than Raycroft, ten fold any day.

Thank you!

As for Forsberg,

The Canucks as a franchise have gone after "past their prime" players before, is this any different? I say go for it.

We've had Messier, we've had Sundin, now we must get Forsberg.lol
