I need some help in one my pools.

Its really small so there are tons of good players available, one including Brad Richards. But if I pick up Richards, I need to drop either Henrik or Stamkos. Should I even bother, I'm dead last in assists so I was thinking Richards could help.

Thanks!

can we fucking kill the game scheduler already? all these lengthy breaks are fucking ridiculous. long breaks in beginning of season and then packing in a giant road trip for the olympics... i swear its like they want us to lose as much as possible.

Season-tickets holders do not think its worth it to drive out to the arena for games during the week dozens of times during a season, especially if you also have a job. Living in downtown Ottawa you have to travel 40 or 50 kilometers, to each game with the traffic jam back to the city comes close to a disaster after every game.

Another reason is divided loyalties - those on the Quebec side of the river are mainly loyal to the Habs and there are still many who cheer the Leafs.

When I was in Ottawa last month, I decided to catch a game. I missed the last express bus from downtown so I had to walk for about 30 minutes from the nearest bus station to the arena. Though it's right beside the main highway, the rink is literally in the middle of nowhere.

Although the arena was less than full, it is somewhat of a better atmosphere than at GM Place. At least Sens fans aren't fairweather, like they are here.

anyone besides my hate the nhl scheduling? Every team should play everytime throughout the year not us playing conference rivals 10 times a season. God I hate the nhl system.

I was wondering that myself and this was all I could find:

Michael Jackson’s mystery appearance with the Canucks

Quote:

At the Canucks Fan Zone, blogger Derek Jory asks the question (of no one in particular — they don’t allow comments) whether the following photo, ostensibly from 1984, is real:

http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._1836759_n.jpg

Quote:

It’s a pre-game faceoff between Stan Smyl and Mario Lemieux, with Michael Jackson (yes, here we go again) doing the honours. Jory asserts that there is actually a confluence:

The Canucks hosted the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Pacific Coliseum on November 16, 1984 and beat them 7-6.
Michael Jackson’s Victory Tour stopped in Vancouver to play three shows on November 16, 17 & 18 at BC Place.
It’s possible this is the correct date. 1984 was Lemieux’s first season in the NHL, and (there is no C on his sweater) was not yet captain of the Penguins.

On the contradicting side, Jory also points out that there’s “no red carpet” as there is in this photo. However, if you look behind Michael Jackson, you’ll notice the penalty box. The red carpet typically extends from the players’ benches for these sorts of things, since the penalty boxes and scorekeeper’s bench do not have exits, and those benches are clearly behind the photographer. Furthermore, the photog is clearly standing on the ice, and for safety reasons would only be standing on carpet himself… so just because you don’t see the carpet doesn’t mean it’s not there.

I did some digging and here’s a photo of Michael from 1984, wearing what seems to be the same outfit.

It could easily be confirmed y asking either Smyl or Mario.

This from the Canucks forum:

Quote:

THE PICTURE IS REAL, THAT’S THE KING OF POP

-The Canucks hosted the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Pacific Coliseum on November 16, 1984 and beat them 7-6.

-Michael Jackson’s Victory Tour stopped in Vancouver to play three shows on November 16, 17 & 18 at BC Place.

-It’s highly unlikely the Canucks would have had a Michael Jackson impersonator take part in a ceremonial faceoff the same day that Jackson is in town. That screams trickery and just doesn’t add up.

-The Canucks Creative Department has the original printed picture in its possession, which virtually eliminates the involvement of Photoshop.

-MJ is wearing all his customary items: aviator-style glasses, heavily festooned black lamé jacket, single white glove and patented leather shoes – he’s legit.

-Some will argue that the infamous white glove is being worn on the wrong hand and that the left mitt is in fact it’s proper home. Yes, Jackson did wear it on his left hand on March 25, 1983, when he performed live on the Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever TV special, but according to Julien's Auctions, who conducted a live auction of Jackson’s possessions in April of this year, the true gloves sold were right handed.

THE PICTURE IS FAKE, THAT GUY’S A LOOK-A-LIKE

-According to a ticket stub from the Nov. 16 concert that stuffed_with_fluff has for sale on eBay, Jackson and company were scheduled to hit the stage at 7:30 p.m. Assuming the Canucks/Penguins game began around 7 p.m., Jackson wouldn’t have had enough time to get from BC Place to the Pacific Coliseum and back in time for the start of the show.

-MJ is sporting his signature military jacket, but a quick Google search of Jackson pictures shows that the middle sash is almost always running from his left shoulder to his right hip. In this picture the sash goes from right to left. I smell a fake.

-Why was there no red carpet rolled out to greet the biggest musician on the planet? The King of Pop agrees to take part in a ceremonial faceoff and the Canucks welcome him by making him shimmy his way across the ice in dress shoes? That doesn’t make sense at all – the Canucks are much classier than that and Jackson’s entourage would have demanded red carpet treatment.

-Why does no one remember this happening? Both Stan Smyl, the Canucks captain standing close enough to elbow Jackson, and Norm Jewison, the former Canucks public relations director who most likely scheduled the appearance, have no memories of this taking place. Jewison took his wife and daughters to see Jackson when he was in town that week, but has no recollection of MJ dropping the puck. Fishy.

After a ton of emails and phone calls, extensive Internet research and even a trip to the library, we’re no closer to determining if this is really the real Michael Jackson.

If you have any insight into this photo or just want to weigh in on whether that’s really the King of Pop or not, fill in the forum on the side to send us your thoughts.

That's the real thing - yeah, there's transit, but if you're working downtown the last thing you want to do is hop on a bus for an hour to go to the game after work, only to get back on a bus for another hour to go back to your car before you can drive home. Imagine if you were an Abbotsford Heat STH and had to get out there for weekday games after getting off work in Downtown Van.... you probably wouldn't bother, unless you lived somewhere in the Fraser Valley.

Harvey Specter 11-24-2009 03:05 PM

Bad news for Leaf fans, the Leafs are not playing on Hockey Night in Canada this coming Sat. The world as we know it is ending.

MR_BIGGS 11-24-2009 03:29 PM

The Montreal Detroit game was on this last Saturday, the world ended last week..lol

411ken 11-24-2009 08:07 PM

i haven't looked this up but is our "sell out" streak over now? lol.. if so, when did it end?

Hondaracer 11-24-2009 08:14 PM

pretty sure it's still going

Harvey Specter 11-24-2009 08:41 PM

Yup, still going strong and will most likely keep going unless we drop like 20 in a row.
