The effort that Lu displayed on the one that got by him is why he makes the money he does

I was in the elevator at GM Place when Wellwood hit the post and the elevator was packed. Everyone was like aaaaaawwwhhhhh damn it...and then tom larscheid says he scored and everyone was yelling and so happy lol.

Solid game. Luu made some spectacular saves./

Damn... sometimes you forget how a plugger like Hordichuk is actually very wealthy.

Well they make at least 500k a year being a plug/healthy scratch player. Play for a couple of seasons and you're set for life.

Not saying they don't make good coin, but they still have to pay union and whole whack of fees. I am kind of curious how much they actually take at the end of the day. Do they still get taxed crazy and file income taxes too?

silk 11-27-2009 09:44 AM

all the dollars are in US btw... :D
so 500k US in CAD can be pretty significant

Assuming you were leaving, why do people not stay until the end of the game (provided it's not a stinker)? Does it really save you that much time?

They better be paying income taxes!

Also, note that an athlete isn't going to be working to 65 like most regular folks will. Their "big money" time period is really from the time they score their major league contract (say 18-20 years old) to probably early 30's (or if you're really good at what you do, your 40's) That's really only a span of realistically 15-20 years of work to save for a lifetime. As long as they're not crazy with their money, they should be able to live comfortably, even if they only get paid league minimum.

2 piece with a wooden blade. I believe he tried a one piece comp stick but couldn't get use to the feel of the composite blade.

It does save a lot of time if you leave even 2 mins early and parked somewhere near GM place.
I have never leave a min early in my life even I know it's a losing game, I personally think leaving early is stupid and it is also rude for the people who wanted to enjoy the last 30 second of the game and you're blocking their view.

no idea... I just assumed it was theirs. Either way, they can easily afford one if those aren't theirs.

I never leave early... I'm so cheap, I must milk every millisecond of the game. I wish eery game I go to ends up in shootout. And a long one too that cycles through the entire team.

silk 11-27-2009 11:03 AM

^ funny i got the same feeling of every game i go ends up in a shootout as well...
hahaha

I work there part time so I was trying to get somewhere. I work there because I get to watch the games so as a fan I wouldn't leave early. I understand though why people leave early. The parking lots, sky trains, streets around GM Place can become a gongshow. I would stay until the end though.

I agree.

It's funny. I never understood why people left early in one goal games. Then when the Canucks would score, they would want to come back.

silk 11-27-2009 11:06 AM

^ you worked there part time so what do you do ? and how do i apply ? Care to share ?

Harvey Specter 11-27-2009 02:25 PM

Nope, it's not their cars. It's a photoshoot for Empire car club.

And on the subject of taxes....athletes spread their income over many years to save on paying massive taxes but the shitty part for all professional athletes is the taxes they have to pay when they play out of province/state. The more you make, the more you have to pay.

I remember hearing on Team1040, the players in Nashville pay no tax to that state. Just like the guys playing in the KHL. All those salaries are tax free.
I think Florida is the same, or similar when it comes to state taxes on income.

Hondaracer 11-27-2009 03:33 PM

yea Florida is the same, fuck that must be nice

I hate to be a douche but a simple going to Canucks.com then clicking on employment opportunities just like almost every other place will do.

Looks like currently they have no openings though.
