I wouldn't call the Coyotes the weaker team, last night’s win was their 10th straight win at home. And imo I think the Canucks were lucky to get a point. They could have stole a win with the late PP and 4-3 in OT but overall it wasn't really a great game from the Canucks. They'll need a better effort on Thursday if they want to beat the Blues.

RiceIntegraRS 12-30-2009 04:20 AM

Why r we talking like the Coyotes are like the worst team in the league? They are actually a pretty solid team.

Yup, very solid team with one of the best goalies in the league right now who could be playing for Russia in a couple months which is a scary thought.

WTF with Bieksa always being cut with skates...

orange7 12-30-2009 06:18 AM

why do ppl look down on phx cyotoes? Is just because they don't have any superstars?

To me, they seems like a really solid team. That's why they are up near the top of the ladder.

Hondaracer 12-30-2009 06:39 AM

I'd say their placement in the standings is more due to coaching then good players

they obviously have a fairly effective shut down trap game when they are leading

Schneider on waivers then Bieska is hurt? wtf?

MG1 12-30-2009 08:14 AM

The Canucks are like the Canadian dollar. Right now, they are on an upward swing, but a few bumps here and there is not going to be a problem.

Phoenix is in 4th place, albeit by a few points over us, so I don't get why the comments. Oh well, the game against the Blues is going to be a good one. Lots of hate between the two teams.

Good, that means calling up some Moose. Always a good thing, 'cause, IIRC, whenever that happens, we go on a winning streak.

Biekshit gone.......... fancy that. Any word on as to how long?

Likely several weeks, if not 2-3 months - at least, that's what the Vancouver Sun thinks.

Schnieder will likely be picked up on the waiver wire today, so it'll be up to Aaron Rome to fill the gap. Or, we could try to sneak Brad Lukowich through recall waivers at some point.

spoon.ek9 12-30-2009 10:00 AM

despite the loss last night, i am happy that the canucks were able to tie up the game and get a loser point out of it (on a wellwood tip in no less!). i was really hoping we could win it in OT as well, but our powerplay was crappy all night long. what's with all the standing around? in previous games the PP had a hell of a lot more movement with the puck and that created better scoring chances.

oh well, next game!

I don't think the Canucks were standing around on the PP on purpose; I think it was more of the Coyotes' stiffling defensive system. If all the shooting lanes were covered, what could the Canucks really do? Henrik had a pretty good chance in OT with the shot in the slot, but LaBarbera (sp?) came up big when he had to.

Dave Tippet's teams have always preached defence. If Dallas didn't have a bad string of injuries last season, they would have made the playoffs. Is it any surprise that Marc Crawford's team is now struggling for a playoff spot?

Greenstoner 12-30-2009 10:21 AM

i thought air guitar by Labarbara was funny last night tho

everytime I see labrabara since he was a canuck and had the metallica cd on his mask...I think MASTER MASTER

But yea. I went "weaker" in quotes haha. I do kno of the home streak they have. And wow what a difference one coach can make. The fact is tho, the Dave Tippet system works and it was proven in Dallas

Bieksa told me this injury "feels the same" as the one 2 years ago. Lets hope not, as he missed 47 games after that one.

Another scary skate cut accident

Quote:

A 25-year old linesman is reportedly in critical condition after his neck was cut by a skate while he was trying to break up a fight on Tuesday.

Kevin Brown, 25, was cut during a Junior C game in Woodstock, Ontario between the New Hamburg Firebirds and the Woodstock Renegades. According to London, Ontario radio station AM980, Brown is listed in critical condition in hospital.

The incident took place when the two players fell to the ice. Woodstock's Craig Thomson reportedly threw New Hamburg's Reid Oliver to the ice, and Oliver's skate caught the linesman under the chin strap as he went down.

The linesman continued to try to break up the fight, but soon realized the injury he had suffered and covering the wound, skated to the Firebirds' bench.

"I saw the skate go up and (Brown) grabbed his neck right away," fellow linesman Bruce Byers told the QMI news agency afterwards. "You knew he was leaking. I told the guys on the ice, 'It's done.'"

Shouldn't we know whether Schneider got picked up through waivers by now?

He cleared, but doesn't look like he'll be back, even with Bieska's injury.

Quote:

Mathieu Schneider cleared waivers. That was expected.
Whether that means he will rejoin the Canucks remains to be seen.
The Canucks didn't want to bring Schneider back to the Canucks. A rift between him and the team developed because he didn't think he was starting enough games.
With Kevin Bieksa out because of a cut above his left ankle, and Willie Mitchell limping after blocking a shot Wednesday, the most obvious option would be to have Schneider rejoin the team.
But not so fast. If it's just Bieksa out, Aaron Rome will ahead of Schneider. And then, you're back to square one in terms of what Schneider was complaining about.
Schneider's complaining was considered unhealthy for the Canucks "locker room" and team psychology.
