Phaneuf's hit definitely should not be suspendable. Sure, he was a little late, but it's not like he hit Kopitar from behind.

The question everyone should be asking is why was Phaneuf, a defenceman, the first guy in on the forecheck? This was a fine example of why he did not make Team Canada and I, for one, glad he didn't make it no matter how hot Elisha Cuthbert is.

The clip didn't start early enough to show him forechecking or are you talking about the race w/ Kopitar?

The race with Kopitar. He should have been in his own end getting the puck out instead of sitting in the neutral zone waiting for a break (at least, that's what it looked like in the clip.)

He wasn't in the neutral zone waiting for a break (if by break you mean break out pass). If you watch the clip closely, they already had the offensive zone. At which point a defensmans primary task is to hold the blue line, and retreat secondary; which is exactly what transpired.

ugh.. pp looked a bit better except for the latter half.

apparently if a player has any tape (or anything else) on their hands below the wrist and it causes injury to another player, it's an automatic match penalty. i didn't catch if that's during fights only.
