i'm thinking that the flames are lock for the playoffs now. they have secondary scoring, and ian white is underrated and quite decent defensively. jbo SHOULD step up for phaneufs loss.

Harvey Specter 01-31-2010 02:35 PM

Well that's hard to say. The "big" Jokinen pick up last year during the trade deadline didn't do much for them, in fact they lost the NW title so on paper it looks good but who knows how the players will interact on the ice. My feeling is there's a couple more players that need to be moved from Calgary for the team to get back on track.

raygunpk 01-31-2010 02:42 PM

i know hagman and jokinen had some chemistry for finland, maybe sutter is trying to recreate that. either way, they have some secondary albeit streaky scoring now, could help them win some games.

If it's true, trading him was a good move. Nothing worse than shit disturbers.

"A few"? I guess if two decades constitutes "a few" :haha:

Chicago had years of horrible absentee ownership. You could barely even get the RESULTS of a Hawks game on local TV and radio, let alone live coverage. New ownership stepped in and put the whole franchise into a hard 180, and it's paid off HUGE.

Yup, there were no local games allowed on TV and it's the same ownership but the son stepped in after his father death.

The owners worked at turning the franchise around, but the biggest impact for the team was their #1 picks and the team actually winning.

Look at the Avs. They had a record of over 500 straight sell outs for their home games, till they started to suck.

Right now, the Hawks are actually making money, and so is the Pens, which is a big part of why they can afford to purchase the Pirates.

Ohhh, I like the Dallas stars vistors entrance to the ice;

T.O won both trades IMO

They got rid of soon to be FA's and they got rid of Jason Blakes contract!!!

THey got a pretty solid D core now and a stanley cup winner goalie

RevYouUp 01-31-2010 05:57 PM

wow what a gamble by burke..but i guess the maple leafs cant get any more worst anyways :haha:

cressydrift 01-31-2010 05:58 PM

^Where did Jason Blake go? I thought the T.O trade was;

To Calgary:
-Matt Stajan
-Niklas Hagman
-Jamal Mayers
-Ian White

To Toronto:
-Dion Phaneuf
-Fredrik Sjostrom
-Keith Aulie

EDIT

To Anaheim:
-Vesa Toskala
-Jason Blake

To Toronto:
-J.S Giguere

Ian white is soo underrated, A defencemen who can put up 20-30 points a year and do it for less than 1 million a season which i believe his salary is, is a steal. And i find it hilarious how u say there having career years when all 3 of them have been putting the same #'s for the last 4 years.

So wat are we argueing about here? How good of a player Phaneuf is? or how shitty the Leafs players in this trade r?

how is ian white underrated? He plays in the center of the hockey universe, if he was any good they would have made him mayor by now.

This is a city that will no doubt anoint Phaneuf as the 2nd coming of Christ within the next week

secondary scoring, they dont have PRIMARY scoring!

the problem in calgary isnt the players, its the system

i for one thought Sutter would bring in a strict system that would make that team scary ... i'm glad i'm wrong so far!

Shorty20 01-31-2010 06:53 PM

Nucks are now a full 4 points ahead of Avs for first place in the NW division!

Now confirmed.

MR_BIGGS 01-31-2010 06:56 PM

Ales Kotalik and Chris Higgins to the Flamers

Olli Jokinen and Brandon Prust to the Rangers

with that logic any player that plays in a huge hockey market cant be underrated eh?

The Flames still hold onto 8th spot in the conference. Aside from the Wings no one below them are really making a push right now for that 8th spot. The Flames seemed to address there secondary scoring problem.... on paper anyways. A lock? Probably not but their chances have gotten alot better

And sure their primary scoring is lacking right now but an Elite player like Iginla... it shouldnt last very long. But me being a Flame hater i hope it does

hahaha what the shit

d1 01-31-2010 07:06 PM

The rangers sure have a liking for over-priced centers.

raygunpk 01-31-2010 07:11 PM

just read something interesting regarding jokinen:

Home - 27 gp, 3 g, 6 a, 9 pts, -6, 20 pim, 69 sog, 4.3 spct

Away - 25 gp, 7 g, 16 a, 23 pts, +6, 31 pim, 80 sog, 8.8 spct

seems like he hated playing in calgary

No push from below? The Blues have been playing pretty good of late and are crawling up the standings and same go for the Wild so as of now the Flames really aren't in good shape because they're barely holding onto 8th spot and they've pissed away valuable points during their losing streak.
