i thought Burrows was the one who said that ??

It was Kesler...he got in shit from the NHLPA about it and had to backpedal afterwards

Expresso 02-01-2010 09:32 AM

Ya if that article is true, that is really unfortunate.

Sedins had to wait ~9 years to get to 6M, and Kesler wants 5M right now. lol wow. I can live with it as long as the cap hit is under 4M.

RiceIntegraRS 02-01-2010 09:50 AM

Well Loungo, Sedins, Burrows all took a paycut to stay here and keep this team competitive. Kesler at 5mil a year isnt taking a paycut. Maybe 6yrs 24million contract and I would like to see him get a front loaded type contract where he gets like 6mil in his first and maybe 2nd season. Looks like $6mil, $6mil, $4mil, $4mil, $2mil, $2mil

and i must say..FINALLY SOME FUCKING DECENT HOCKEY TALK IN THIS THREAD OMG...regardless.

Burke CONTINUES to shape the Leafs into the hard hitting DEFENCE first hockey team he built in Vancouver and Anaheim. Sadly, Celine Dion has to EARN his spot just like Luke Schenn. I understand SUPERSTAR here plays a different game, but he is a big upgrade from Mike Komiserick. Theres going to be COMPETE for ice time amongst the Dmen, The leafs better hope that Phil Kessel can be a one man show. The leafs do have some promising talent coming up in Nazem Kardri.

Its great to see some HOCKEY TRADES go through as it just does not happen. At the same time, very rare for Burke who likes to DUMP picks for instant depth

The Flames have a buncha forwards here, with the excepton of Mayers who have never played in the west, where its more trap and hard hitting hockey. For Stajan and Hagman to be successful, they must buy into the defence first system in the west.

Ian White has better numbers than celine dion, and in the long run, they have JayBo and Giordano who has been great.

Ollie Jokinen isnt going to get traded to ATL, Ollie isnt going to go anywhere. Ollie is terrible. Ilya Kovalchuk will land to a team that will provide INSTANT impact to the organization, and they WILL trade for PROVEN players that have years remaining in their contract. I believe Kovalchuk doesnt have a NTC so ATL can ship him to wherever they please.

It does appear CGY is dumping money to make room for Kovie, but they got nothing to give up anymore.

Mayers played on the Blues.

Burrows yes, but I don't think Luongo and Sedins took a paycut at 6.1 mil cap hit... Remember Sedins signed at the rate of pt per game players... Look at guys like Datsuyk (6.7 mil), Martin St Louis (5.25mil), Hossa (5.2 mil), Pat Kane (6.3mil) who are all getting paid similar amounts

a 25 year old isnt going to going to sign a 5 year front loaded contract that sees him make $2m when hes 30. he could potentially be a $7m player by then.

front loaded contracts generally go to players who will be on the downside of their careers when the contract is in its final years, enabling a buy out or retirement.

What he said ^

By the end of this thing, I see him signing 4- 4.5m per

Hondaracer 02-01-2010 12:03 PM

I'll bet anyone anything Kesler signs a long term deal that they are both happy with

the guy bleeds green and blue and will stay

2nd for star of the month, not scoring leader

luongo's cap hit is only 5.33mil after this year

DuhDang 02-01-2010 02:01 PM

Kesler planned it all out. Made everyone take pay cuts so he can have a bigger salary

CRS 02-01-2010 02:07 PM

I think this is just Kesler's agent talking since that is what an agent is for. To get more money so that he can get more commission.

I think when Kesler and MG sit down at the end of the season, they will be be better able to gage the contract. My belief is that he will take a paycut since I honestly believe he is a genuine guy who loves the city and playing hockey here.

Liquid_o2 02-01-2010 02:20 PM

It's not a paycut, he will still be getting a sizable raise from what he is currently making.

I think I could live with 4.5 million a year, but anything over is getting into Sedin territory, and even though he is my favorite Canuck, he isn't worth that sort of money just yet.

With Demitra's 4 million off the books next year (UFA, won't be re-signed), I believe we should have enough cap room to resign Kesler, Mitchell and Raymond, even if the cap goes down a bit.

Harvey Specter 02-01-2010 02:24 PM

Jeez, Kesler should be happy with $4 mill, no way is Gillis going to pay him $5 mill.

Ch28 02-01-2010 02:25 PM

He should get Burrows type money imo. I hope he gives a big hometown discount. He came out and said that when Burrows, Sedins and Lu had to re-sign. If he doesn't then it's going to create a huge problem in the room.

"hey guys, i'm going to call all of you out and force you to take paycuts or you'll be seen as a bad guy"

stuff99 02-01-2010 02:41 PM

This has gotta be one of the driest interviews I've ever seen on OTR:

http://watch.tsn.ca/nhl/clip262059#clip262059

Roach 02-01-2010 02:42 PM

If anyone deserves the coin it's Burrows at $2 mil/annually.

IMO, if Kesler won't accept $4 million it's a slap in the face to everyone that bought his pay cut BS. Especially Burrows.

Kev

AzNightmare 02-01-2010 02:43 PM

Kesler's in the 4 mil range in my opinion.
I still can't believe Burrows is only getting paid 2mil right now. The guy's such a MONSTER.
