The 1st rounder the Briuns got from the Leafs for Kessel is going to get lower and lower.

Ch28 01-31-2010 09:45 AM

What a horrible trade for Calgary. You've got to be an idiot to really think that trading Phaneuf for fringe players is a good deal.

So much for TO's rebuild. They're going to continually be a mediocre team at best.

I wake up and I see that Phaboof is traded for fringe players (White is an exception this year).
LOL@ this trade.. good luck to both teams!

RiceIntegraRS 01-31-2010 10:02 AM

I dont know why everyone thinks this is a horrible trade for Calgary. I remember how every1 has been saying Phaneuf is an overrated-overpaid D-man and i honestly believe he is.

Toronto has honestly lost all of its scoring in this trade. Hagman who is a consistent 20+ Goal Scorer, Stajan who basically puts up Kesler Type #'s And Ian White who is soo underrated who basically has the same #'s as Ehrhoff. IMO horrible trade for the Leafs

But the Giguere trade i like if he resign for alot cheaper and gets back into like his glory days.

CRS 01-31-2010 10:03 AM

Funny thing is that this looks like a flames salary dump to get Kovalchuk but the thing is, the leafs just dumped everything for the offseason acquisition.

RiceIntegraRS 01-31-2010 10:08 AM

Even though i hate the leafs, i hate the flames even more. I Do hope Burke lands Kovy over the Flames

Hondaracer 01-31-2010 10:13 AM

The leafs are going to become the new oilers, having to overpay to get/keep players becuase who the fuck wants to play under all those circumstances?

IMO Vancouver is the choice destination amongst the Canadian clubs

Are you high?

Stajan's career high is 16 goals, not to mention everything Kesler brings defensively. Not even in the same conversation.

White's career high is 26 points, Ehrhoff put up 42 last year and is on pace for the same this year. You're vastly overrating them based on them having career (read: anomalous) years.

Gh0stRider 01-31-2010 10:23 AM

wow..i wake up to all this.

crazy moves.

rsx 01-31-2010 10:26 AM

Huge trades

spoon.ek9 01-31-2010 10:28 AM

wow..... so much movement today. i agree, i think TO is still going to be mediocre at best this year. lol @ phaneuf though, being sent to one of the worst teams in the league :haha: i think that's a very clear message from calgary management just how much they felt he was worth in their organization.

Expresso 01-31-2010 10:28 AM

haha who the hell is going to play with Kessel now!

Did i ever say Stajan was a Kesler type player?

Ian white is soo underrated, A defencemen who can put up 20-30 points a year and do it for less than 1 million a season which i believe his salary is, is a steal. And i find it hilarious how u say there having career years when all 3 of them have been putting the same #'s for the last 4 years.

So wat are we argueing about here? How good of a player Phaneuf is? or how shitty the Leafs players in this trade r?

raygunpk 01-31-2010 10:33 AM

lol phaneuf sucks, watch him play. like seriously watch him play, not just the highlights or youtube vids.

It might work out for them because of addition by subtraction meaning Dion really was that bad in the room. As far as numbers go remember these guys were getting lots of minutes in Toronto because they had nobody else don't think the situation is exactly the same in Calgary. They are also going from the soft east to the gritty west, I guess time will tell what happens to the numbers.

I don't think it's a brutal trade but it isn't taking them to the promissed land and Iggy, Kiprosieve and the rest of the cogs on that team aren't getting any younger.

Tegra_Devil 01-31-2010 10:47 AM

this trade will also give us the money to resign rene bourque to a long term deal!(BIG PLUS!)

and like i said before....we have all the pieces to throw out for a really good chance at snagging kovalchuck

also, for everyone who says hagman isnt a good player...even though the leafs are shitty, he is their goal leader, and is also good enough to represent finland for the 2010 olympics!

jamal mayers is perfect with west coast grit...im sure the 6'1" 218lb man will fit fine....

stajan leads leafs in PP goals, second in assists

white, is young, leads in leafs goals by a Dman, and leads in Dman icetime...

Sorry, T.O. is going for that in the off season.

Either that or he is going to go the KHL.

Why would Atlanta want to deal with Calgary now? It would make sense to have Phaneuf plus parts going the other way. They don't have enough high end prospects to give up either. I don't think Atlanta deals with Calgary now.

I think he's trying to say that the lames are gonna try to sign kovy during the offseason :p

fobulaus 01-31-2010 11:13 AM

Wonder if Stajan will centre the top line...

LOL there is absolutely no way Kovy will go to Calgary.. they're not even contenders anymore

Tegra_Devil 01-31-2010 11:16 AM

That would be such a huge burn if some team was to give away the farm for Kovy and have him leave for the KHL.

Because of that, it might be very difficult for Atlanta to trade him in which case they might get nothing at the end of the season when Kovy takes off.

trancehead 01-31-2010 11:18 AM

Kovalchuk to the Flames? :( looks more plausible now

Looks like Burke is building from the net out again...if Giggy can hold up
