5.25M cap hit.

so he's gonna get 10 mil in the 2010-2011 season?
Won't that make him the highest paid player in one season ever?

btw, what does "cap hit" mean?

Cap hit is the amount of money taken away from a team's salary cap.

For example, if a team has a salary cap of 54.3 million, by signing luongo, 5.3 million would be taken away from 54.3 so the team would be left with 49 million left to sign other players.

It works out to 5.3 mil/yr because that should be the avg of his earnings over his entire contract.

**Note, every team has the same salary cap and it is regulated by the NHL**

So Luongo's 10 million for that one season in 2010-2011 will still mean only 5.3 is deducted from the team salary cap?

haha you quoted me too soon, I was still adding info. Please read again.

Lude S 09-02-2009 08:44 AM

Yah I think he'll be the highest paid for now. Ovechkin and Crosby are "only" getting 9M at the moment.

Edit: Was explaining cap hit but CRS beat me. :)

d1 09-02-2009 08:52 AM

Lecavailer is also getting 10M

Where's all the Gillis haters at lol... GREAT deal for us and this should show all the players how serious the team is in winning the cup.

Who else is thinking that Schneider+Bieksa + picks are being shopped around for a sniper/score?

The canucks were 5th in the west for goals scored so they actually aren't too bad offensively. Schneider has 2 yrs left on his rookie deal so it's not like they need to get rid of him now - I'd rather wait until the right deal comes along than forcing one now.

Hondaracer 09-02-2009 09:11 AM

Lol @ you guys who said the benchmark was 7 mill and laughed at me when I said it would be well under

awssome fucking signing though great day for the nucks baby!!!

I wouldn't say our offense was all that great. Despite the stats or scoring rank in the league, Canucks need a gamebreaking scorer that can get things done during clutch. The Sedin's don't exactly seem to be capable of doing that consistently. Seems okay for now, but by playoff time, I expect something done.

No kidding........ I thought bringing him in was a very good move. If you look back....... I guess you can't anymore, but very few people had any kind of support for MG when he first got the job.

stuff99 09-02-2009 09:21 AM

I wonder if he's gonna be bought out when his cap hit is 5.33 when hes 40+
