Nvm i got it :P slow ass SFU email service.

Anyways I am using XP32bit and I want to upgrade to Win7 64bit.

From my knowledge:
-If you want to upgrade from XP -> Win7 you must do a clean install regardless.
-You dont get a hard copy disc unless you want to pay like 13 bux more and wait X amount of days for it to be shipped.
-You download an .exe file instead of an iso.
-Lots of people are reporting that you cant do a clean install with the .exe file and they need to do it by booting up a disc so a solution I found was make that .exe into an ISO and burn it then boot it up

The guide can be found here:

http://www.sevenforums.com/general-d...udent-d-l.html

If you guys have trouble maybe look through all the pages and find the answer to your problem. I am gonna buy and try this sometime tmr when I see some more people with good results :P

Edit: It seems those upgrading from vista who might have similar problem can use that iso method as well

It says office then you click next or whatever and you can select Windows 7 professional 32 or 64bit.

I'm waiting on my upgrade to arrive from amazon. If the student deals ends up being a full copy and not just an upgrade I'll buy and save the physical disc I'm getting for my secondary rig.

Still no confirmation from any sources about whether it's just an upgrade or not.

Mugen EvOlutioN 10-22-2009 07:28 AM

fuck why is it such a big hassel?

so if you are already on Vista 64 bit u can do a direct upgrade without wiping all the shit off ur computer?

but if u are running Vista 32 bit u cannot upgrade to window 7 without wiping it out?

getalove 10-22-2009 08:24 AM

alright i'm trying to install window 7 64bit on my computer and its messed up...
first after i download i have make an image of it because its a 64bit and i'm running 32bit .. and if ur not computer savy .. you probably wont know how to do it ...

then during the installation it wont let me install cuz it says i dun have a dvd rom driver... but how can i boot up the image if i dun have the drivers .... its soo confusing

ppl wanting to purchase it .. i'd say you wait .. until all these lil problems are fixed.. you have until january to buy it

I had that same problem when upgrading from a 32bit to a 64bit OS a while back but I can't remember exactly what I did to fix it. I don't think it's the OS you downloaded that is the problem though. Try googling the error message, you should find a solution involving windows repair and command prompt.

sounds like the best bet is what SkinnyPup said, get this but only for the legit key, then download a proper ISO of 7 to use for the install.

Crowtservo 10-22-2009 10:11 AM

Can anyone confirm yet whether it is a full retail version or just the upgrade version as it is advertised??

I'd like to be able to do a clean install without having my old OS discs handy if I don't need to.

You can just download a pirated ISO, they are the same thing. Just use the key that was given to you when you purchased your legit copy.

Is this a confirmed?

underscore 10-22-2009 10:29 AM

There are ISO's up of legit, untouched copies of operating systems, for people who have lost theirs but still have a legitimate key.

I want to find out too.
It seems like no one had tried it yet on the Redflagdeal forums yet.
Guess we must wait.

getalove 10-22-2009 11:03 AM

so this is an issue of bad ISO ?

Gt-R R34 10-22-2009 11:07 AM

someoen did it on Redflags - page 16 or 17 instructions

This is a full version, so you can install it without a pre-existing OS.

It was confirmed in windows seven forum when someone e-mailed microsoft tech support.

They said it's called an " upgrade " since it's "upgrading" from xp/vista or the newest OS. However it is the full install.

twitchyzero 10-22-2009 11:57 AM

im gonna get flamed for being a cheap fuck but
how many times can you reinstall this?
I was told you can reinstall 3 times before calling in MS to reactivate your key...does that mean 3 computers can be running on the same key?
I'm still pissed i didnt get the ACM keys

Gh0stRider 10-22-2009 01:54 PM

Maybe I'll just order the disk kit then. I don't wanna deal with this iso problem.

if you can get it onto a iso...
download daemon tools..bascially a program that creates virtual drives and lets you boot the iso as if you were running a cd..

http://www.daemon-tools.cc/eng/products/dtLite
link to download..lite version is free..

and oh ..damn i'm running vista home premium and i bought the 32bit thinking I would only need to upgrade...if I knew I had to do custom install I would've just bought 64bit..
buy my sony laptop is 2 years old and won't make much use of it..hmm

so I'm wondering how many times I can install this with the same key?
So all new computers will come with windows 7 and this upgrade is pretty much useless if you're gonna buy a new desktop right?
I'm contemplating whether or not to order the 64bit one too...

getalove 10-22-2009 04:12 PM

i got the iso and burn it on dvd
but here is the problem during the installation it prompts me to install my dvd drivers because i can't find it .. which is ridiculous because i am booting and installing from there

Yep, I'm typing from my win 7 64-bit os right now. TBH using a pirated iso was WAY easier than installing from the exe you download. I couldn't get it working the 7-8 times i tried.

drivers wise that is

underscore 10-22-2009 04:52 PM

if it works with Vista it should work with 7. That said, I get a very obscure glitch with certain programs which might be an issue with my graphics driver (shouldn't be the programs as Windows Solitaire glitches the most)

bakasam 10-22-2009 05:23 PM
