hold on, before i checkout on this, if i opt for the CD version by paying an extra $13, will I sitll get a download link? or will I have to wait a few days for them to mail me my CD.

otherwise, i can just not opt for the CD, get the dl link and just burn windows onto a CD.

Bonka 10-27-2009 06:10 PM

You get the download link and key after you complete your order, irregardless of purchasing the CD or not.

so, currently im running 32 bit Vista home premium on my laptop, 3G RAM, Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 @ 1.83GHz
I would like to upgrade to 64 bit Win7 so that means i'd need to do the clean install once i get the download or disc or whatever right?

If you have a 32bit OS and want Win7 64bit. You will need to buy the disc. You can download it, but you will not be able to unbox the downloaded files, so you can't do jack.

At least that is latest that I have read. Digital River is getting users who had 32bit and bought the 64 thinking they could just download it, to call them. I figure they just give out refunds or make them pay for the disc.

I have XP and was planning on installing 64bit Win7. Waiting for my disc to arrive...

A good read on " How difficult is it to upgrade to Windows 7"

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/8317005.stm

RabidRat 10-27-2009 10:50 PM

so how exactly does the upgrade work? does it have to detect a previous version of windows on my computer?

TOS'd 10-27-2009 10:55 PM

If you care about your programs and settings, do an upgrade.

If you dont care about your programs and settings, do a custom install.
You will be prompted with an option to save ALL your files into a file called windows.old
This includes EVERYTHING in the C://, which also contains your Documents etc.

nah i'd rather do a fresh install, but what I meant to ask was if I'm able to just do a fresh install without having windows already there. i guess i can then?

do i need to provide them with a legitimate activation key from a previous version of windows too?

IMASA 10-28-2009 03:35 PM

I read on some forum that if you do a clean install without having a previous version of Windows, it WILL install, but it will not accept your upgrade product key.

unit 10-28-2009 03:39 PM

hmm, the never sent it to my student email. anybody willing to give up theirs? lol

Nope, you do not need your previous key. Just your newly purchased one.

RabidRat 10-28-2009 07:17 PM

lol awesome. why would anyone ever buy a full version at all? other than a business?

unit 10-29-2009 09:20 PM

anyone know where to find windows 7 64bit pro iso?
my friend used his email to buy it for me, but now i have no dl link, just a product key.

zuN 10-29-2009 10:33 PM

fuk i cant unbox this stupid exe. i got the 64 bit but on 32bit winxp atm. says

"we are unable to create or save new files in the folder in which this application is downloaded. Please check the folder properties to make sure that you have security permission on the folder to write files and that the folder is not read only."

fuk me. but i ordered the dvd. hopefullly will get it.

IMASA 11-01-2009 09:34 AM

J, try this. This was posted on redflags, the iso from digital river.

64bit
http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent..../X15-65805.iso

32bit
http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent..../X15-65804.iso

I was able to burn out the 64bit iso, boot off the DVD and do a clean install on a brand new HD.

Keiichi 11-01-2009 10:39 AM

Question about this win7. Is the OEM or retail version? i've heard that the OEM version locks to ur mobo and you cannot install it on another computer after (ie. if you upgrade mobo it doesn't work)

Is that the one from the link above? i think thats the same one i downloaded. i popped it in windows and nothing happend cept for the black dos cmd box. Fuk i shoulda rebooted with it in it. I threw it out at my last hotel fuk. lol have to download it again. thnx though. Also does the Win7 dvd give an option to format the partition like how the XP dvd does when you boot off it? I tried the demo version and i had to format with the xp disk, then reboot before it copied the xp files on and pop in the win7 disk to install as the win7 didnt offer the format option.

yea its the OEM version, it'll lock to the mobo, or lock to something. Not sure what happens if your mobo gets struck by lighting and you get a new mobo, i'm guessing if you call microsoft under those circumstances they'll reactivate the serial for you.

J____ 11-01-2009 05:06 PM

and does anyone knw if its confirmed that the 32bit key will work on a 64bit install disk?
