Does anyone has a problem with shutting down the comp with Win 7 Pro? It took quite longer time sometime to shut down.

J____ 01-11-2010 03:47 PM

no. mines super fast shuts down in like 5-10 secs. something must be wrong with urs. I did a clean install though. didnt upgrade on existing system

I had this issue. Would freeze on shutdown. Just came out of nowhere. I ended up wiping the system and installing from fresh.

I found a way to workaround it that's super simple, it was posted up that it worked for Vista and people were wondering if it worked for 7 as well. It did for me, so here it is:

1) Download the upgrade ISO from Microsoft when you pay and get the serial key (or just use a plain Win7 ISO) and burn it.
2) Boot from disc and follow the install, when it gets to the serial number and activation, don't enter one and uncheck automatic activation when online (not sure if that was important or not but uncheck it anyways)
3) Finish up the install so you're running the 30 day trial of Win7 Ultimate
4) Take out the install DVD, restart
5) Put the disc back in, and boot up the upgrade installer from inside Windows
6) Go through the whole thing again, this time entering your upgrade serial key and leaving the auto activation checked off
7) Finish the install, and enjoy your shiny new copy of Windows 7

Super easy since all you do is install it twice, I guess all the upgrade thing checks for is if you`re running 32 or 64 bit, and if your current install is horribly illegitimate.

twstd_reality 03-10-2010 07:20 PM

if windows won't take the upgrade key. you can just do this. worked for me. much easier than installing twice.

you install once, then run the "upgrade," to me that's just more idiot proof/safer than that other method. and it won't take much longer.

Thanks for the help. I got it installed.

u only get 1 key per software per student account.
even if u reg into another comp sci course the very next semester, u'll still get the same key.
the one and only way that i can think of to get another key is to transfer to another school that offers msdn, which they'll probably give u a new account with different keys.

mk1freak 03-19-2010 09:00 AM

i actually got one copy of each version hp and pro, to do it i used the first email they sent with the link to the online store :P

willystyle 03-26-2010 09:01 AM

Why does it say MS Office in the link posted by OP? I wanna get Win 7 Pro too.

Honyoung 03-30-2010 12:54 PM

its not accepting my cd key do you think its becuase im using someone elses cd? the reason why im using their cd is becuase its a brand new computer so i dont have a current os on it. will i have to use the link they gave me and dl my own cd?

J____ 03-30-2010 12:57 PM

they probably installed it already. a cd key only works once and is bound to that mobo.

you can use any CD, and the method I've posted several times and it will work.

I bought stuff from the student deals several times already... (Office 07 for 79.99, Win7 Pro for 79.99 last year) etc... it's always nice, fully backed by Microsoft... and NO they never called me

CRS 02-26-2011 04:53 PM

Sorry to bump this thread prematurely but does anyone have a extra copy that they may have gotten?

I would be interested in buying it off of you. Please PM!
