my laptop a Sony Vaio which is probably just about 2.5-3 years old is a core duo T2300 processor @ 1.66ghz 1.67ghz with 2 gigs of ram and it's running amazing not like it ever even slowed down but it works great

So, is it only a few schools that get Windows for free to download? I got 7 pro two weeks ago through the MSDNAA from Waterloo... Do we just have a closer relationship with Microsoft or something? (Originally I assumed most students had a similar option)

I have a friend at Waterloo and when he told me about that I was pissed lol. Yes Waterloo has a special deal with Microsoft (or they pay for the right distribute). Many schools get discounts on software for students but very few are as good as Waterloo. The Microsoft student deal is available regardless of what school you go to (as long as it's on the list).

I know Vista was offered free at Waterloo but is Windows 7 as well? If so I'll have to bug my friend for an extra copy since he only uses linux.

Microsoft hires more coop students from Waterloo each year than everyone else, except for MIT. I'm guessing our software database is a perk of that. Anyways yeah we have 7 Professional for free so see if you can get a serial off your friend.

Nah, it's probably because Skinnypup is a douche.

Bought the 32bit and 64bit today with my bcit email address. I'm just a correspondance student so I don't think it matters about your eligiblity. Previously bought the Office 2007with no problems.

Thanks for the URL for creating the iso.

This is a full version, so you can install it without a pre-existing OS.

It was confirmed in windows seven forum when someone e-mailed microsoft tech support.

They said it's called an " upgrade " since it's "upgrading" from xp/vista or the newest OS. However it is the full install.

I installed this successfully on a clean & empty HD, however, when I try to enter my activation code, it returns an error stating it's only for upgrading, and not a clean install.

I'm not doubting what you're saying, i'm just explaining what I'm experiencing. It won't accept my activation code. I don't know what to do.

Would someone mind linking to this RFD thread?

^ Thanks a lot.

The 2nd method on that site worked for me.

StylinRed 10-25-2009 08:24 PM

i installed it on my laptop without issue

then i tried installing drivers... and i dont know which driver conflicted with win7

but after a reboot it kept telling me that my laptops battery was invalid and it would have to go into hibernation -_-

dachinesedude 10-25-2009 09:10 PM

ok i'm pretty confused...

i am running 32-bit Vista right now, so if i wanted to use 64-bit Windows 7, all i have to do is a clean install and this student discount one i'm buying will do that? oh and i am getting the disc version, not download

Ulic Qel-Droma 10-25-2009 10:28 PM

yeah u can do that, u will just stick in your disc, and let it do a clean install.

since home premium and ultimate cd keys all don't work with each other .. i'll guess diff bits have dif cd keys as well

.... are you serious?... yes they're gonna make a $60 dollar cd-key work on a $300 dollar product. Makes complete sense to me.

dub.g 10-25-2009 11:24 PM

just bought Pro and Home Premium on same student email account

since it counts as different product.. now im running Pro 7 and gave the Home Premium on my mom's acct.. im happy with it

had to burn it into an iso though so its easier to install

CT10 10-27-2009 08:57 AM

I have a Core 2 Quad, and 2gb ram

My vista is currently 64 bit..

Once i get my windows 7, should I get the 64, or just the 32 bit will be fine?

illicitstylz 10-27-2009 11:06 AM

you'll want to upgrade your ram if you get the x64

SkinnyPupp 10-27-2009 04:27 PM

x64 can utilize more ram, but it doesn't mean you HAVE to use more ram. Get the x64, there's no reason to buy a 32 bit OS anymore.

rainbow_star 10-27-2009 05:18 PM

I think I'm getting the Pro and will use the RTM version on mininova.
But I couldn't find the Pro version in mininova, can anyone pm me the link?

Edit: Never mind, I found it now. :D
